When I started at MMC I was SO nervous to meet Zalis because I had heard many similar negative comments like some of the ones written here, but as I progressed through both Choir and Music Production he became my favourite teacher. He does talk a lot and he does throw the entire choir out when only a few people act out but he does have a lesson behind that I believe. He is nice.
Some tips
-Learn your parts (Choir)
-Do your work, don't just sit around you'll pay for it (Music Pro)
Good Luck!

Many people say Zalis is conceded but i honestly think thats because he wants to show that even though his music production class isnt like the other ordinary classes with many tests, its still effective, and he uses his personal stories to show that what he is verbally teaching you can be backed up by his successes.

Zalis was my teacher for music production for 2 years. I found that he had a lot of knowledge, and liked to have fun. I found it difficult when he talked about his life all the time instead of letting me finish my compositions. I also felt that choir concerts were often more about him showing off and less about student achievements. He was a fun person to talk to, but often difficult to work with - would kick the whole choir out for the mistakes of a few students.

His quality of teaching went down in the 3years that I was in his class when I started there we did tons of singing in choir and by the end of my 3rd year we were lucky if we sang for 15min cause he talked so much. Hes extremely conceded and thinks that he is the most important think in his students lives (which is not true) and has NO sympathy when he plans an after school rehearsal to other commitments his students have And did I mention hes rude to anyone he THINKS has less knowledge than him

Zane Zalis does talk about his achievements too much since, that is what all our music production sessions were like. He talked more about his experiences rather than teach us about music. But I did learn a few things from his stories. First, arrogance can be achieved from success. Second, Use your words carefully, think before you speak.

The best music teacher a young kid could have. I've played professionally all over the world. I've passed what I learnt from him on to my kids and they are great players as well. Thanks Zane. Ed Reynolds

Mr. Zalis uses his real life experiences to teach students what to expect in the music industry once high school ends. He's a realist, and its very helpful.

Ah, Mr. Zane Zalis. Though at times he could talk way too much about prodigy or his own personal achievements, when it came down to it he was a good teacher. He knew his stuff and if you showed up to class, listened and did the work, you learned something. I learned a lot in his class. I learned how to properly right music as well as the theory behind it. If you didn't do great in that class, well that was your fault. It was an easy class.
