This guy is freakin awesome!! Super fun and helpful. I had him for Intro to college english, theres a lot of reading and quizzes but if you do them and listen to class discussions you'll be fine :)
Super energetic and fun teacher, he's also a really nice guy! The material is sat times quite confusing especially in the poetry unit of intro to lit. You absolutely must read everything he tells you to read, there will be several pop quizzes. He is very helpful when consulting him for papers and essays :) I highly recommend him but its not a class you can be lazy in!
I took him in Introduction to Literature. He's a great guy, a lot of energy and teaching experience. It's difficult to get a good grade with him, but he offers time in his office to review and improve your work.
Yves Is a great teacher. You can tell that he has tons of experience and knows how to keep the class engaged. He's a really nice guy, a great Literature teacher.
Overall very good teacher. Always finds a way to make things interesting when noticing that everyone is dozing off. If you're nice to him he'll be the same in return it's as simple as that.
He is a very friendly and funny teacher. He is passionate about what he teaches, which is good because his lectures are interesting. But don't ever let him catch you with your phone and don't eat in his class. Ask questions and get involved, DO your homework and READ what he tells you to... Nothing pisses him off more than a classroom of blank faces. Overall he's very approachable and helpful, and easy to please.
He's a very nice and funny guy but serious when it comes to his class. My personal opinion on him though, hardest marker I've ever encountered so far, he also never has anything positive to say about you'r work. Gives quizzes on a story that we read weeks ago and have read at least 1 or 2 new ones after it so it makes it hard to actually remember anything, especially since he never tells us until we get to class. Can't contact him through omnivox either. Great guy, bad teacher. Don't take him.
Worst teacher!! I had him for bible class. If you dont write what HE wants you'll fell! He is available, BUT when you ask him for help, he just tell you that he cant help you because you are supposed to know how to write a text and that he cant give you the answer. I know for sure that more than half of my class hated him!! Class ends earlier than they should most of the time, but classes are useless and SUPER BORING.
He's extremely opinionated, he's loud, he shouts instructions at you but somehow he smiles and tries to help out when he can. If you listen to what he says and ask him questions you will be alright.
Any comments about him not being helpful to his students are completely UNTRUE! When you go see him with a draft he provides incredibly detailed feedback that really helps you raise your mark. No, you can't just slack off and get easy marks in his class, but hard work and effort are more than rewarded. He truly teaches you to see things from entirely new perspectives and teaches you to think critically. I took The Bible as Literature and learned so much. LOVED him as a teacher and this class!
he was the BEST teacher ive had in the first semester!! he is caring and if you do the work he asks for, you will pass with flying colours! he is very helpful too!!
Yves is loud, strict and very vocal about his opinion. That said, I enjoyed having him as a teacher because he forces you to think about what you're reading which will in turn improve your writing. I had him for Introduction to Literature and Introduction to Drama. He likes textbook answers but you always have to be able to prove your point. Do not take this class to slack off and get an easy CRC, but he's great if you are up for a challenge and if you want to improve your writing quality.
Most amazing teacher I've ever had. He is so kind and communicates with students outside of class hours. He is very helpful when it comes to essays and assignments and explains everything clearly. He will do everything he can in order to help a student. TAKE HIS CLASS
Pretty good teacher, he's a hard marker but if you're good in english, you'll do fine. Had him for introduction to literature, which was very boring, but he was alright.
"Now boys and girls, GET OUT OF HERE!" He's a pretty hard marker but if you put a lot of effort, you can definitely get good grades
He should spend more time helping his students than insulting them. Don't take him, only class i ever failed
Do work, pay attention (take notes) and you're good! I've never done so well in English. He can be hilarious when he gets passionate about what he's talking about. Great guy, would take him again. :)
He challenges his students and is a fair marker. If you try hard on the essays and always do the readings, you can still get 90's.My english improved so much during one semester with this teacher.
Yves was the chillest english teacher i've ever had. Just do all the work and show him that you're trying hard and you'll get super good grades!
I had Yves for 101. He's passionate and entertaining. When I went to see him he was very helpful. Take him if you can. He's great.
Great teacher. I had him for a bible as literature class. He made that as interesting as possible. Overall cool guy
Yves is such a chill guy and he's super nice. You will have to read some things but most of the time he's pretty reasonable
If you have any form of religious background do not take a class with him, it was one of the most inappropriate classes ive taken in 3 year. (The bible as literature). Would not reccomend.
He isn't a bad teacher. I had him for Exploring Literature, and it was a three hour class...that made it pretty bad. He tries to make things interesting, and doesn't give like any homework, other than reading plays. He does in class work, but he lets you work with a group. In all, he's pretty good. I would recommend him, just try not to get him for three hours in a row. That got bad.
Great teacher! So helpful. So insightful. I had him for my first English class; believe me, you cannot get away with writing like you did in high school. You have to work. "You cannot start until you've finished"
He is an amazing teacher... He's interesting and you would almost never fall asleep in class... Awesome and funny. I hate reading and i even found his readings cool O_<
if we don't understand he's always there to help us.
He is and awesome teacher, English was insanely fun in his class and with group discussions class was never boring. Didnt care much for the readings except for the dreadful paris but overall a fair marker
good sense of humour, but VERY boring. he's a very hard marker on essays and you get quizzes a lot. I would try avoiding him.
"If you have something to contribute, please indicate so by holding your arm aloft (demonstrates)...thusly."
Bible class:Lots of fun to joke around with, liked his approach. Got angry for no reason sometimes but we made him laugh and it was over.Lots of group discussions, which was good but repetitive.Overall nice guy and fun class
I loved talking to him in class. Funny guy and has a great sense of humour. Class could be more interesting. Every class is the same: group discussion then class discussion, it's repetitive. Would still recommend though!
He's a nice guy, but unless your religious or VERY interested in learning about the bible I would probably try a different english class. I wouldn't say he's boring, it's just that he's teaching a topic that not too many people are inerested in (many people have little choice but to take his class due to time constraints and program requirements). Also I found that he wasn't very clear on many of his lectures, assignments and essays; I often found myself sending MIOs to other students for help. 7/10 overall
AVOID! this teacher is terrible. the texts you read are super boring and all he does is talk at you the entire class. He yells a lot too which is not what you want at 8:30 in the morning
I had Yves for intersession and he was great. He is a very animated teacher as well as a fair marker.
I was in Yves's Medieval and Renaissance class and I thought it was excellent. I enjoyed the many in-class discussions and the choice of material. Most of all I loved Yves's enthousiasm for the course content as a whole. It is rare to find a teacher like Yves with a passion for his subject. I will definately try to take him again.
I took the Bible course and I thought it was great. Yves knows what he's talking about, he's helpful and he's entertaining. I recommend it.
SO BORRRINNGGG!!! omg i never went to the class.. i stil ended up getting an 80 but god knows how. the quizes are impossible, unless you like memorizing 30 pages of the bible.. the first essay is so unclear and the first test as well.. i think he just was super leniant on the last essay/test/presentation beause teh whole class was failing.
Such a great and funny guy! I looked forward to his classes every week, and by the end he had the whole class engaged and laughing, he's so entertaining! If you have a decent writing foundation you'll do fine. In his 102 Drama class he gives you all the answers while reading the plays in class...TAKE NOTES and highlight lines. Talk with him before and after class, he's a very understanding and interesting guy to talk to.
I don't understand why everyone is so scared by this teacher. He's such a nice guy that really knows how to teach well. Classes are pretty interesting and he has a very light course load. An essay and assignment, here and there...Oh, and please don't get intimidated by him on the first day, he tends to scare ppl sometimes....I think it's a sort of joke...not sure, but if you can write a decent essay you'll get a good mark...very understanding teacher...TAKE HIM!!
Had him for his Bible class, he was very good in the sense that he made the Bible interesting and gave everyone a new perspective on stuff. Although I think a lot of the members of the three major Religions (C/J/M) dropped the class in the beginning because the class does go into some details which challenges... well...
Yves is passionate and caring. One of the good ones. Don't hesitate
Erudite, and classy, superb public speaker and wonderful all round guy. Just great. His drama classes are super. You do have to work, but it's a pleasure!
Nice teacher, bit odd though!Liked his drama class, plays were fun!
Yves knows his stuff. He's fair, helpful and entrtaining. Take him.
really funny guy. hint: if youre in trouble go to his office for help even if you havent read the book entirely. might be intimidating the first day, dont worry
Takes some getting used to but once you do, amazing teacher, got me interested in theatre and his lectures are very instructive. Simply a must for theatre buffs
Yves is cool!drama class was neat, not as much work as he makes it seem. don't be intimidated after the first class. alot of lectures, but they're v.interesting
really nice man, i enjoyed his class, he's not just a great teacher but a great person. not super easy, but i really loved the class. slightly not time oriented
Good teacher. He can be pretty dramatic so its funny. Just don't talk while he's saying something important.
One of my favorite teachers. He's educated and helpful and nice. Don't take him if you plan on slacking off. You'll learn a lot.
I really liked this teacher, you can even joke around with him...and as long as you work hard your grades will show for it....he's great.. and funny too.
he's great! very educated and very enthusiastic! easy workload! may appear strict but he's not! how can u dislike him?!?!
Good teacher but so disorganized. Hardly follow course outline.
really great teacher. go to him for help or to confirm your understanding of te material, even if you dont think you need it and you will do well for sure.
He was one of the nicest teachers I had my first semester! Don't listen to any of these guys, take his class if you can!
don't listen to them! he's the best english teacher i've ever had.
Scares me... spended first class exclusively on show up late, not an option
