Having Ms.McCallum this year for grade 12, I was sure that I wasn't going to get a high mark in her class. However, after a whole semester, I found out that she is extremely nice and she cares about her students! She can help you with any questions and she doesn't mark as hard as you think! Her notes are okay but don't forget to read the textbook! Good luck and remember, Ms.McCallum > Ms. Delari any day!!
Sets you up well for university. pay attention in class and read up if you would like to do well. Keep your notes because first year bio is basically an extension of grade 12 bio with a few more details here and there
Amazing grade 12 biology teacher, her notes carried me in my first year of university. Need help, ask her. Study, you'll get the marks. Her teaching is pretty transparent where if you mess up, frankly, it's your fault. She truly tries her best to teach, and it shows. and she does all this without embarrassing you like some other teachers in the sci department...
I want to sleep in that class...but I can't because we have to get up halfway during the period everyday...
Be aware she might judge your smoothie making choices when it's smoothie day unless you add a lot of veggies, when her daily smoothies look like puke. She's pretty knowledgable about the field of biology and willing to help and clarify but goes off topic really easy, she loves talking about her sons and her triathlons. You better eat healthy or she'll judge you till no tomorrow.
Makes you run "triathlons" which are a waste of time, imposes her health choices on you but she has really funny sound effects tho
I didn't realize how amazing Mrs.McCallum was until i got to university. Her patience, notes and teaching methods are simply profound. She may seem very daunting at first but once you ask her a couple of questions and she sees your interest for biology, she'll warm up to you.
Tl;dr- couldn't have had a better biology teacher.
Mrs. McCallum is one of those indispensable teachers that pack loads of knowledge into her curriculum. She goes out of her way to verify her teaching material & even asks her previous students in university research (most latest research is valuable!)
Let's not forget how her activities are memorable and the real life applications she tosses in! Smile & soak up all the info you learn from her! It's worth it once you hit uni! Guaranteed.
Not the best biology teacher in the school as explanations arent the most explanatory nor are her notes readable without context but she will prepare you well for university as long as you pay attention.
But really, she'll prepare you for university. Chances are you'll probably be using the notes from her class in first year, since it's just a review of grade 12 biology. She's very capable when you ask for help, and if necessary you can talk to her after class and make arrangements for assignments if need be. Explanation's are clear and concise, and activities are actually kinda nice. All in all, a good teacher who'll prepare you for university.
Grade 11 and 12 biology with Mrs. McCallum gave me the knowledge and helped form the work habits necessary to succeed in university. Theres a fair bit of material covered in the course, but she highlights things youll need to know to do well on quizzes, tests, and the final exam. All assigned homework was taken up in her class, and she would always ask if anyone had any questions, clarifying material if necessary. Cruising through the course won't get you a good mark. You need to work hard.
After several years of university, I can safely say that Mrs McCallum has prepared me for all the biology courses i have taken, and is a prime factor for my success as a student at uWaterloo. Negative comments below are representative of students who dont put the effort into understanding the material, because I personally found Mrs. McCallum's input in current ideas to be quite interesting!
-3rd year Kin student
I used her notes to study for my university exams and I got an A. Haters are slackers.
Mrs. McCallum is a great biology teacher. She is so smart and knowledgeable and she's really understanding. Although her classes can be a bit boring, she really prepares you well for university!
She marks really hard compared to other bio teachers plus her teaching style is based more so on textbooks.
:) Great. Loved her. Takes some getting used to but if u focus in class and note wat she says, you'll do great :) Loved bio thanks ms mccallum :D
Sometimes a little monotonous but really nice. There really aren't any stupid questions when it's asked in her class. A little too much of a running fan though.
good teacher, tells us everything thats going to be on the test/quiz . but talks about running a lot
She's knows alot about biology however she's a bit of a running fanatic, it gets annoying sometimes but other then that i liked her :)
Stories are fairly interesting, but speaks in a somewhat monotone. Plays favorites
THE BEST TEACHER EVER. I HATE Bio but she HELPS SOOOO MUCH. GREAT WITH STUDENTS....LOVE her
Possibly the most boring teacher I have ever had. I dropped biology after two weeks cause I coulnd't stand the unwilling attitude to help and the monotoned lectures.
If you get to know her, and if you try to remember she's there to TEACH and not fancy with students (unlike other teachers), you'll see she's a great teacher!
Pretty good teacher... a lil hard to get used to (the way she talks when you're trying to write down the overheads), but she's nice. Talks about running 2 much
She is by far the worst bio teacher ever.... she was really unclear about things and everytime she tried to explain something she confused me even more...
Never had the pleasure of being in her class, but I wish I had. She is a kind, encouraging, and an all around great teacher.
good teacher! helpfull, clear, willing to explain. sometimes you need to repeat questions several times in order to have them answered.
Students know more about biology than her! Well, that's what you get when you go to Trent!
