His classes? Need little time to digest it but it's still fine. He don't spend the entire class time teaching. But make sure do the practice questions when he's done! DON'T EVEN THINK about TAKING THE PHONE OUT IN FRONT OF HIM when lecturing. Humorous, friendly, always happy to help you.
Exams? In his words, If you don't do those practice problems, you'll surely fail. No unexpected stuff, but need to be careful about details.
Recommend this teacher for taking Chemistry 11/12 (Regular/I.B.)
His Chem HL class is really boring because the entire class is just notes, 75 minutes of notes. I don't blame him for the boring class because there's nothing he can do. Either way he's a pretty fun teacher, if you ask him questions he'll definitely answer them. Sometimes he can be a little passive aggressive but in a funny way. He's in a freaking hard rock band and yet he teaches chemistry and even brought his daughter to school once lol. Probably the most unique teacher i know.
Mr Benson is very helpful If you ask him a question after class he will spend as much time as needed answering questions Very clear tbh I go to him almost each day after class to ask a question or two GG
On the down side his tests are rather challenging he will ask for the most ridiculous detail he mentioned in class However he usually does not pull any tricks and unexpected junk on tests just stuff he taught
BTW SANDY BEACH IF U R READING THIS CHUCKLES LOVES YOU SINCERELY
Funny, Interesting, Helpful - everything I want in a teacher. He's so clear in class and even though his tests are next level hard, studying for them and asking questions can help you ace it. His explanations are amazing and I wish we had better teachers like him in grade 12. :( He's a teacher you'll remember forever. So passionate.
HANDS DOWN BEST TEACHER EVER. Very friendly towards his students, very understanding. Gives good (although long and boring) notes. Plays good music. Good guy, good guy.
His tests are comprehensive, but they are not hard. If you put in the effort, you will be rewarded.
Very funny and random. Very friendly to students and dedicated to his work. Lots of note-taking though. You can joke around in his class and he doesn't usually mind :)
I took Chemistry 12 with him. He's nice, but I find his classes very boring, mainly taking extensive notes the entire time while he repeats what is written in a very dry way. This makes it hard to absorb the information in class, and I find myself writing notes without understanding them; I "get it" only upon reading them later. He doesn't engage the class or check if everyone understands, which is reflected in the test averages. The lab write-ups are fairly easy and the tests quite difficult.
He is really good at his job. You can tell that he actually knows what he is teacher, unlike some teachers. Kinda weird, but in a funny and unique way. Classes are pretty interesting.
we're sorry for all those times we've annoyed you with our loudness -eighth graders
His tests are not easy. You need to know your stuff very well. He is very helpful in that if you ask for any help, he is willing to help. Quite clear. Pretty popular.
Very humorous, knows his stuff well, buy the Hebden and study it well with his notes! Notes are good, doesn't give much work (The responsibility is yours to study), very thorough.
Buy the Hebden. His notes aren't very clear though his tests are fair if you are willing to go beyond his notes. Labs are tricky. Looking forward to seeing if uni. is any easier because of him.
not the funniest teacher, but gives you enough faith and pressure to do well
I find learning from his notes difficult. they are detailed but it's like 10-15 pages of notes every class. however having just taken organic chemistry at university. i realize how useful his class was. even though it was challenging, it was definitely worth it to pay attention in his class.
I used to think mr. benson was justa str8 up old hard teacher. But if you take chemisty classes in post secondary education you'll THANK HIM SO MUCH. even though his material may be a bit challenging it really helps in the long run. Doing the "package of fun" in his class is very essential, no matter how "fun" it may be. Also ask him questions, he answers them well. Pieces of advice: dont go in threes for labs if there is an odd # of ppl (ticks him off), and try not to stare at Goopy the iguana all class.
his notes are detailed and he's quite a laidback person. His tests are hard though so you have to know your stuff.
I think he's a very strange person, seems arrogant and moody. Smart maybe, but he's way to into himself and reptiles.
Had him for IB chem. He knows his stuff but his exams are hard. Study hard, don't slack off and do your hw regularly to stay ahead of you're screwed.
I had him in Grade 11 - NOT an easy teacher, nor very merciful. It's obvious he knows his stuff and is a pretty cool guy, but he's somewhat intimidating. His sense of humour is either quite funny, or, to others, somewhat offputting. DO NOT slack off in his class, because you will definitely regret it!
Tests are needlessly hard compared to the provincial ones. Seems only to impede learning and enjoyment of chemistry.
Personally, i can't understand the guy. I know this guy knows his stuff but if you can't teach it well, why teach? like his notes are like a freaking story. Mr. Benson, I don't need a story, I just need to know how to do Chem.
Mr.Benson is a good teacher that knows his stuffs, I wish people would really stop saying bad things about him, ya'll probably hating because you had bad marks, to the person complaining how no graphing calculators are allowed, well duh that goes for every other chem class when u have a test, tests including multiple choice and written sections, is that even somethign to complain? HE is a nice teacher who is always willing to help, MR.Benson is the best teacher EVER!! I support you!
scary, but he's one of the smartest people i know... DO NOT PROCRASTINATE during the package of fun or you will end up failing horribly.... do every single question!
Notes nonstop. No graphing calculators. Labs and writeups are all in class. Huge worksheet package (dubbed the packages of fun) for each unit. Tests include multiple choice and written sections. He is an entertaining teacher who keeps an iguana in the classroom.
Does not know his stuff. Tactics include words of encouragement such as "you're all going to do poorly on this test" and "most of you will fail". Tries to discourage students to cover up his inaptitude. The material isn't very difficult anyway but he claims that "for most people, they will never understand the material by the end of the year".
I can't stand Mr. Benson's class. His notes are unclear, hs explains things way too fast and worst of all, he's impatient when people ask questions. He whips through the notes expecting everyone to understand. He's moody and unorganized.
A very friendly teacher he is. He is not a good teacher in terms of his tests because they are so evil!!! I hate his multiple choice questions, but he really makes his students work. He is quite disorganised, but still... he is funny, congenial, and cool!! (he has his own band called Aging Youth Gang...playing punk rock). Anyways... his tests are hard -_-
I really dont think hes that bad... He doesnt force you to do ur homework and I thinks he's very approachable. Hes also pretty cool and funny guy =) But sometimes his tests are too hard and he gives the other class easier test grr..
hes a cool teacher, tries a lot to motivate the class, but his class materials are TOOOO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
hard to understand sometimes and his explanations when asked a question are rather confusing. messy messy notes
he's awesome! he's so funny, i love it, and if you ask for extra help he explains everything
His snake and lizards are about the only things I understand about him. Intimidating and much too hard.
hahahaha... good teacher =) hafa understand da stuff to do well... but hey... i got several perfectz~ muhahaha~ he teaches clearly~ gd gd la~ :D
Hard, extremely hard, but preps us well for IB exams and has clear notes and teaches somewhat well.
very straight-forward. subject material a bit dry, but teaches very well. very fair, on the hard side. will learn a lot.
If you work and ask for help when you need it, he seems to be a good fellow. And getting good marks in his class is very motivating
i failed Chem, and he was the type of teacher for some reason i wasn't comfortable asking him for help. his tests and labs were very hard. he wasn't very friend
Really nice and helpful. Tests are okay, similar to provincial. Lab write-ups are hard, usually pull your marks down.
I liked his notes. Very succinct. Did occasional homework checks that kept you on your toes.
smart teacher who knows his stuff. could be more interesting but is funny. class was fine at the beginning of the year but now it's just harsh. Be more NEAT!
Teaches well. Notes are messy. Has a pet iguana! Ok teacher
good teacher, hard tests but can be mean or snap sometimes
eccentric, feeds live rats to snake, ok notes, ok tests, bad handouts
not clear; but the notes are ok. preps well for provincial; not great as IB
