Mr. Speers has an extraordinary passion for music and loves sharing it with his students. He is strict and expects much from his students, but this brings out the best in his students. He cares deeply for his students and really makes the entire music program feel like a family.

He is an excellent band teacher,he makes music become a living breathing entity.BUT he tends to become to passionate and the songs are extremely lengthy....also he believe everyone should prioritize music over everything else. All in all he's a good teacher, but sometimes he forgets that people have lives OUTSIDE of band.

It is funny how some people here say that he is not helpful especially with people that did not grew up with music or has a weak musical capabilities. I was part of Symphonic Band for 3yrs and Jazz Band A for last 2 years. I would say that he is the most helpful person/teacher i have met in that school. I started playing half way through grade 9 and took on Symphonic in Grade 10. Because of him, i'm now in a Music School. I think that he will be most helpful with students who is willing to learn

I have been in Rob Speers' class for three years and I think I got a good pin on him. Mr. Speers teaches the most difficult music classes the school provides, so of course some people will dislike him if they only like music as a pass time and/or easy credits. He expects the best out of all who are involved, something most teachers don't even ask of. His 'favoritism' is put into students who work hard and do their best to succeed. If you want to be a great musician, Speers is your man.

Such a great band teacher. He is probably one of the best in the country for sure. Knows his stuff more than anyone I've known. He's a super great guy, and has been a great friend to me when I've needed him. He's probably one of the most supportive teachers out there, and he's also pretty funny. I highly recommend taking Symphonic Band if you are contemplating between Concert and Symphonic if you really want to go for it with music. I only participated in Symph 2 years sadly. Should've done 3

Mr. Speers and his Symphonic program are the only reason that I'm at Ainlay. It really is a terrible school except for the music program. Mr. Speers is fantastic, and runs a very high level program. The only people who haven't given him amazing ratings are people who aren't up to the high standards he has for his students.

Pretty big ego. He's generally quite friendly, although you can tell that he is pretty self absorbed. He was also a pretty bad choir teacher...although I hear he's great in band.

Having symphonic band at the end of every day makes every day seem like a good one. He somehow manages to make it the most laid back class ever but you still learn so much. Possibly best teacher I've ever had for any subject.

He is pretty much the strangest man i have ever met, but absolutely brilliant. Although he does have a tendency to make fun of percussionists. One of these days it's going to result in a throw down involving finger cymbals.
