always a little scared due his reputation, but now that I'm in his class, I feel he is going to be really helpful. He wants everyone in his class to get better, in writing and in understanding why English is important.
He is alright. He favours the students from enriched class than the regular class... You can drop 10% easily and get 20% in next term.
Great guy, very relaxed, funny, knows his stuff and is very respectful... Really lenient
Cool teacher, helpful. One of Gladstone's best
Thx Mr G. Just got back my AP exam result (5!). He was helpful for ALL students in his class and got me ready, I hope, for ubc. Definitely a good teacher.
Regarding a precious comment. It's beautifully written, elegant in its structure (and lots of big fancy language) as it bemoans Guraliuk's inability to teach. Gotta love the irony as it looks like he was able to get through to you.
I too struggled with writing but found Guraliuk very helpful. He was able to point out common errors problems in our writing usually by providing samples from his classes and then would model and show ways to improve often using class samples. His expectations are high and as a way of preparing his AP students for university he treated us like potential university students. As students we can not make silly errors anymore. BTW... also had Guraliuk in regular English. He helped all types
I struggled with English and Mr. Guraliuk did not hesitate to let the class know that as he often ridiculed my writing challenges in front of the class. Yes, he is passionate about English, but he only knows how to teach the students who already do well in school. How effective is he as a teacher if he is unable to meet the diverse needs of his students? Good teachers are the ones who can teach to those challenges. Good teachers listen. AP English reinforces his arrogance.
yikes, the previous comment by a classmate of mine, is totally out of line. Guraliuk cares; too bad you don't (skip out then and make all our lives better). Name calling (rude) aint fair. His classes can be tough, he does want us to do well, and he doesn't really put up with a lot of whiny students and for this, i want to thank him.
His normal class is easy, but his enriched is hard. In the latter, the essays you have to write will be marked so hard, one time my class average in an assignment was like 60%. But in quizzes of multiple choice, it's easy cuz sometimes he gives the answer away, so pay attention during quizzes. He may play favorites, like most teachers. One bad thing i have to say is that he doesn't respond to me in the hall when I say hi. His fav quote from Macbeth is something about seeds.
Mr. Guraliuk is a very good teacher.
wonderful! He cares and I'm learning!
He's a good teacher, and you actually learn something in his class but he scares the living frizzle shizzles out of me. I'm literally afraid to even see him. Doesn't seem like a very kind person too, had a few friends try to say hi to him in the hall and he completely ignores them.
gotta admit, i learned lots and understand his passion. so glad i took his class
Mr. Guraliuk knows his stuff. He has genuine intrest in literature and the English language, however, much like most teachers, it seems he's become worn out by teaching the same things to students year after year. This isn't to say that he doesn't try and motivate his students to approach the subject with the same passion as him. He doesn't tolerate people who talk balk to him and show his dislike by often singling them out in class. He will give you the tools you need to further your studies.
tough, tough, but stick it out, you WILL learn and don't be afraid of the AP test!!
ya know, after being in his class for the last 2 years, I gotta say he's really good. Not easy at times, talks too much (all times; but what he says makes sense). and he cares about us!
Very fun, enthusiastic teacher. He's one of those shakesperian like English teachers but isn't super obsessed with it. He makes English enjoyable and fun.
i think im begining to understand stuff now. he knows what he's talkin about and is definately enthusiastic about teaching!
definetely one of glastone's best. He and Steudel make the department. always knows his stuff and you gotta take some initiative to get the most out of his classes.
knows his stuff and i survived HD with a great mark ;) but he still talks toooo much
cant agree with the last post at all! he cares and you gotta listen and learn. so far hes making me think
found a book for me in silent reading ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh he's an aight guy, idk how hard he is right now though :/
talks down to students too much. Who is he trying to impress?
Very good teacher. Loves his talks each class. I hate how he picks on students infront of the whole class though. Overall no major complaints.
he's hilarious and very shakespere oriented. Love him and I had awesome grades too
Eh..expert in English language but somehow didn't help me a lot (yet). I get depressed because of his marks. Sometimes I dislike him sometimes I like him.
An easy class but expect to learn next to nothing. Also, he talks too much. I was going to drop the class early in the year but, ironically, he talked me out of it.
hes an awesome teacher. his class is like a slack class... rarely do anything but for some reason you learn a lot. he cant stop talking about the LPI which is good cuz he preps u good for it
Really fun and interesting teacher! Never boed in his class..
Mr Guraliuk is a really awesome teacher. He is passionate about what he is teaching. I believe Mr Guarliuk and Mr Steudel make Gladstones English department so outstanding (=.
This guy, while people may tell you is strict, is one of the most lenient, understanding, English profs that I've ever had. The English department at Gladstone is great all across the board anyways.
Good teacher I really enjoyed his class.. really knows what he was talking about.. made me want to learn about english and literature..!! Funny made jokes in class all the time..
He's really cool and I think he's really helpful. Good job!
Awesome teacher and he knows exactly what he's talking about. He has a passion for literature and enjoys teaching. We need more teachers like him. Thanks Mr. Guraliuk:)
I think he's full of himself, he loves to her himself talk and i dont find his teaching helpful
Very well spoken lit teacher. He inspired me to become more better at writing and I also read because of him!! (not because he makes us) ps. he hates me because I'm constantly late
Awesome teacher lol but he always pick on some guy thats always late which is so funny
he made me like writing essays.. best english teacher so far... he's kinda funny too.. tadatdadatdadada
He didn't let me join AP English... you'll regret that one day when I become famous, Mr.Guraliuk! ;)
he really tries hard to get u interested and learning.a truly inspiring teacher.remember,to succeed, always try+participate.say it no matter how shy u r.worse thing-u laugh it off!
Inspired me to write, tought me what a 5 paragraph essay was! He was very passionte about his teaching!
gave me confidence in my writing. very knowledgable in the subject and has a wonderful/witty sense of humour. (for AP students: HOD isnt as bad as u think)
very very helpful and passionate teacher, the best and smartest english teacher ever, although he is quite hard
a great teacher, talks alot... really funny and is alot of fun... if only he would remember my name!
I've had him for four years, and he was an excellent teacher. He could be a university prof.
talks A LOT but hes the best english teacher ive had so far.
talks a lot... can get off topic at times... an inspirational teacher.
-really great if you are the studying type; if you are not, then he's not.
