Never had Ruffell but from what I heard is that you either like him and do well in his class or you hate him and do horrible in his class. It really depends on your own learning

How is it that a student who has done academically well all through elementary and high school with mainly A's does so poorly in Mr. Ruffel's Calculus 12 class? My son was not the only one, I have spoken to other parents with strong academic children and they have said the same. My son had to upgrade prior to attending SFU but when we found out Mr. Ruffel teaches at QE Adult Ed we went elsewhere, my son is now in 4th year SFU and on the President's Honour Roll, that in itself says it all.

If you're a slacker, then good luck. If you honestly care about math and try, he's the best math teacher you can get. Very systematic and clear. He has everything planned out weeks ahead (even months) and there are no surprises in his class.

For all you people who never tried hard in life, i want you to know Mr. Ruffel is one of the biggest reasons i'm in medical school right now. I use to hate him as a teacher and yes for all the reason of being a LAZY student who didn't go home and practice to learn the topics taught in class. Without him, i wouldn't have push myself harder and yes he may be over weight but his brain and knowledge is higher then loser who doesn't try in life and the jerks who said rude things about him.

He's great once you get to know him. I had him for 2 years, good teacher. Very accommodating, and helpful. Sure he makes weird jokes, but that's a sign of a genius!

A tough teacher that is at times quite intimidating which results to less confidence on the student to approach the teacher. He probably expects everyone to know Math like it's common sense which is true. He's not the teacher for students who procrastinate, but he's the right teacher for everyone else. He's very informative, quite sarcastic but funny. His analogies are clear and he teaches very well. The only problem is his attitude. But he's not there to be your friend, he's there to teach.

A good teacher, but not if you're a slacker. If you want to learn and plan on taking math in the future (math 12 etc.) than he's an awesome teacher.
