A very very smart man, perhaps better suited to a university level.
super cool dude and his fashion sense is unbelievable!
Best Teacher, I have had. I had him for Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Biology in grade 12. He teaches extra material not in the bc curriculum. Because of his classes I have been well prepared for all of my university classes. His marking is almost exactly on par with provincial marking, on 2% difference between my class marks and provincial exam score. Very dedicated teacher.
Just wanna say all this blame is absurd. I took math with him for 3 years and now taking math at college. VE prepared me better then any teacher I've had. School is work, you expect it to be easy?
The school's academics have been getting worse since 2001-2, and 1 of the reasons is the loyalty to the 1 and only math/science teacher after gr. 10. After taking math with VE, kids leave in droves.
I'm leaving because of Mr Vanessen's inability to teach math and science. The school won't give me any other options. No wonder DCSS rates so low in the provincial assessments.
elementary up until grade 9 i was top of the class in math 90's +.as soon as hit grade 10 i dropped quite a bit i was getting about 70's and it made me feel really bad b/c i was used to alot better
Mr. Vanessen is the reason the DCS kids need tutors in Math starting in grade 10, drop their averages by 40% and come out of the school thinking they're "just not a math person".
He was a pretty good teacher. He was my teacher in 98/99. He made us work hard.
mr. van essen was the greatest. he made sure we knew our stuff
Leon did his best to ensure that all his students learned what they had to. He was very willing to spend extra time helping those who didn't understand.
