Best teacher I ever had in high school. Always willing to help you with school work even when it didn't relate to his class. Back in 1982 he spent a whole afternoon with me acting out the key scenes from Merchant of Venice so that I could understand the play and ace my English exam. He always wanted his students to feel and understand what he was teaching and was the best at it. Wish him we'll and will always remember him fondly.
Excellent drama teacher I learned a lot while attending hillcrest.
Mr. Laird Evans was the first Teacher who made me realize the importance of hard work and commitment in order to achieve a successful outcome. He was the "One of Few" in this profession that truly connected with kids and put all his heart into developing a connection. He linked with students of all backgrounds and showed the same enthusiasm in wanting to develop every single one of us in being the best we can be!! What an amazing Teacher. They really do make movies about these types of People!
I am who I am today because of this great man. He was the greatest teacher I ever had. Thanks to him I was the only one in my extended family who went to University and I have been a successful high school teacher for 23 years. I owe everything to him. He was and continues to be my inspiration and my role model. I don't know where I would be without him. I support him now and always. Thank you Mr. Evans for everything. Gregory Danakas
Simply the best
Inspiring and was able to guide me and help me in ways my parents couldn't and other teachers wouldn't. Laird saved me.
I had the privilege of being a part of his grade 10 drama class back in 2009, he was one of the most influential teacher at Hillcrest. Not only was he always a positive spirit, he gave many of us the courage to speak up and out about pressing issues. He spent countless hours voluntarily helping students in need and never posed a threat. I am so proud to of had Mr. Evans as a teacher and hope that he continues to be passionate about his work.
He definitely is known as one of the best teachers. He was an inspiration , and he taught me how to truly love myself and be who ever i want to be. he was my teacher for grade 9 and 10 drama. thanks to him, i can express myself in the craziest way possible.
Mr. Evans was a fair but firm teacher, that was able to open up your eyes and mind. From life's troubles to the world off artistic imagination. Kinda like the Don Cherry of Drama teachers.
I had Mr. Evans from 89-93. He was one of the only teachers who gave 100% to his students each and everyday. This is why I took Drama every year, he helped me realize what my true potential was and still is today
I was a student of Mr. Evans 1990-1992. He was a WONDERFUL teacher, who not only taught us about acting, improv, history, etc., he also taught us to be open-minded and creative; that is was OK to be ourselves. He spent countless volunteer hours talking to us if we approached him for guidance (many felt we could talk to him about anything, because he wasn't judgemental- he was kind, always with a smile for his students), and working on school plays. Thank you Mr. Evans.
Mr. Evans was great with our whole class and knew how to communicate with all different types of students
Loved this man. He is what every teacher should be.
He was my Drama teacher throughout high school and my favourite teacher at the school. He helped me to realize what it was to be a man and not just a delinquent. I remember seeing some of the prop guns we used for the Stage when doing a play our class put on. At no point was he endangering us with the "prop" weapons. They may have been real at some point but they would never have been used in that way. I still think of this man when I speak and act on a daily basis.
This is a kind hearted, genuine teacher. He taught his students to believe in themselves. He is the only teacher that has had a lasting effect of me years after graduating.
I was in Mr. Evans grade 9 drama class of 09/10 and to this day I consider him one of the most passionate, kind hearted and genuine people I have ever met. His class was something I looked forward to each day and is still one of my most memorable class' to this day.
Mr.Evans was my drama teacher at Hillcrest High School. He was my favourite teacher, I remember when I did not feel prepared for my final exam and I went to him concerned and he told me "just try your best, you got this". He was very passionate about what he lectured, his knowledge, different cultural backgrounds, and acting. He was a nice, wise kind-hearted man, and he was the teacher you could talk to.
I had Laird Evans as my drama teacher while at Canterbury High..'76-'80. He was an incredible instructor...passionate of his art and respectful of his students. A positive effect on my life even to this day. I stand beside him now as a friend.
Mr. Evans is currently retired and is going through some difficulties in his life. For many of us he was the greatest teacher we ever had. For those of you who loved him please reach out to him and l
The best All Time techer there ever was. He was the only teacher who actually made us want to learn!

Awesome dude. Always tryna just help everyone out when he can
According to Evans, we all evolved from fish and not monkeys
Awesome teacher, great personality, outstanding way of teaching, and a great story teller. He accepted me in grade 10 drama when I never took grade 9, I was able to switch out of another class I didn't like nor feel comfortable in. He knows real life stuff, hes an actual human being and not just a "talking head" and more like a friend then a teacher. I'll remember him forever. Cheers to you, and the great life lived and you will live on even after you've passed.
this guy is by far the most hilarious teacher ever. loved his class and his stories

Mr. Evans is an insightfull man, who really does care. he explains things in a way that shows how relevant they are, it is nice to see a teacher with morals, easy class too.
One of the most dedicated and caring teachers I've ever had. I was in Grade 9 drama class about 15 years ago -he was a wonderful man who truely thought us to think outside the box!
Mr. Evans was the biggest influence and inspiration of my life.I owe him everything! I would not be where I am now without him. This is a great teacher and a great man. Greg Danakas
I love this guy...I've learned so much from this guy and even a lot about myself! He's an amazing teacher and really cares about his students!
I have many, MANY stories about Laird Evans. He was an interesting teacher and a complex individual. I had him from around '84 to '88. Take a class if you can.
