Surprised to see all these bad reviews. He's extremely organized in summer school, you will learn everything you need to know for the diploma (94 with just his notes). He is also a very decent teacher, uses ppt + blackboard, tries to keep things upbeat. If you care about doing well and do the homework, he is more than willing to help and takes the time to explain things if you approach him. I suck at physics, but I found him phenomenal. Course is 4 unit tests with one "final"/mark replacement.
Mr. Taven can definitely be questionable at times during lessons, but he's honestly not as bad as people make him out to be. I had Mr. Taven for Science 30 and it was so easy. He teaches his lessons thoroughly enough so that you understand the concept and he even links it to other materials that pertains to the real world, giving us advice at times. He really likes the kids who work hard in his classes, which is an obvious given. He's also a really good rugby coach too!
He is a very nice person and attempts to help when you ask him questions, but grows increasingly impatient when students fail to understand his explanations. There is often much confusion within the class as he teaches and gives examples on the board. He tends to disappear a lot throughout class, so there is a lot of extra time on your hands. Unless you are one who is able to self learn most of the course, I would not recommend him. I'm sure he's a great rugby coach though!
Everyone complains about him because he "doesn't teach", its pretty easy if you put effort into it. Really funny guy and if you go up to him for help he will do anything he can. Dress in layers, his portable is sketchy
Never have I seen a teacher so quickly take a subject many kids enjoyed and turn it into a abysmal mess. Out of all my years of schooling this is the poorest instruction I've ever received coupled with one of the most casual, relaxed and above all else ineffective learning environments. I honestly believe that he is one of those teachers who came to this profession after failing at another, not because he wants to help people learn.
Pay attention in class and copy all the notes he writes on the board. He can be confusing at times but then again, physics is a confusing subject! Just make sure to do all the homework and look in the textbook if you don't understand something.
He's nice and has a good personality, tries to make little science jokes often to make class more fun. Although, he isnt the best at teaching. He isnt very clear and seems prtty forgetful. His teaching style basically consists of writing notes and then doing questions, which leaves u with a lot of time on ur hands. He always late and leaves the class for at least 10 mins a day. Just try going over notes often to stay on top of his class :)
When he teaches, it's very unclear and it's basically a learn it yourself process. He can be funny and that's good but his teaching confuses people.
Tavens a cool guy but not a very good teacher. sometimes i dont think he knows what hes talking about. if you ask a question hes not very clear at all. Hes not in the class room alot hes always late and leaves in the middle of the class. The 10 class basically goes homework check, notes then working in the work but then he leaves. Hes a great person but not a great teacher
Taven is a geologist, not a physicist. His education degree is in Phys. Ed., where he belongs. He was a good teacher, but I couldn't click with him on a personal level. His lectures were confusing, and his tests and quizzes were insanely hard. I went in to this course having enjoyed Physics 20, and came out disliking the subject.
He was awesome, just had him in summer school! He was very clear and gave great examples of everyday applications.
Heard a few people were slamming Taven, had him last semester for P30. He was great, there were a few students who always were late and talked when he was talking, gave him a tough time, he was cool.
OMG! LOL! Heard that a few people didnt like Taven, they must be idiots or he called them on something. Firm and fair. Taught me last year, was great! Prepared me for university big time!
I just read Mr. Taven's last review and I have to say to the person who wrote it, are you from a different planet? Mr. Taven is very knowlegable, he teaches you to think and not just do problems.
Probably the most irresponsible teacher I've ever met. He doesn't know how to answer when anybody asks him questions. He's never in the classroom and gives lame excuses" SORRY I WAS AT A RUGBY MEETING
He's actually pretty cool, even if his "teachings" are kind of hit and miss. By the way, when you rate Mr. Taven's teaching methods, think for a second. Remember that he's teaching Physics, a subject that needs to be explored on your own. when he teaches something, he guides you to the topic and lets you explore that topic on ur own, which is how Physics is supposed to be taught.
teaches awkwardly..random objects dropping..other than that seems like any average teacher you'll find
He's a good teacher, although he doesn't teach as much. However, his style of teaching makes you enjoy his class.
He is such an amazing teacher. He makes science super fun! I have never had a teacher quite like him. He is GREAT!!!!
Taveron rule, he is the best teacher, he makes everything so easy to understand, and he does it so fast. The only reason u ppl dun like him's cuz u suk @ physic
I've been in his class four months other than throwing a few things I haven't learned a lot. But then again he's an easy going guy.
A little forgetful but an absolutely awesome teacher if you actually listen.
Throws stuff around, good guy, has an ego, can make you feel dumb, smart man, you have to click with his personality, I thought he was cool
Watch out flying hole-punches, staplers, trash cans, or anything else within his reach
My textbook is a better teacher, considering we're always assigned readings and he doesn't like explaining concepts to us.
This man cannot teach and is boring. On the other hand you will never have more free time on your hands or ever have a trouble with being late (he always is)
