Looking back, I can honestly say that Nakamoto's style of teaching is the best preparation for university. Yes, he gives few examples when he teaches and seemingly throws impossible tests at you. But that's the point - he doesn't want to spoon feed everything to students, unlike the easier math teachers. You have to go home and self study.
If you're in Nakamoto's class and doing poorly, DON'T TRANSFER! Take it as a lesson that YOU need to change. University will thank you for it.

You can't hate Nak, you just can't. His classes are for students who have already grasped the mathematical concepts he's about to teach. Had him for three years and my math mark basically went down the drain. Never had such low marks in my life. Ruined many prospects. My final IB mark was higher than what he predicted (and like that matters). VERY nice guy, amazing mathematician, just a poor teacher. Please go teach at university lectures, they need you.

Worst teacher. Smart mathematician - but he CANNOT teach! He drones on and on about his ib conferences and his TI calculators. Then he does a whole chapter in one day. One example, two - max. Then, we get weeks and weeks of "playing" with his useless calculators - and then we have a test. Really hard test. He expects us to know it. BUT HE DOESN'T TEACH!

He's a smart person and a good teacher, he's just lazy. Once, my friends and I kept getting the wrong answers for everything and we asked him why; he took about 10 seconds to say a couple of words and we saw what we did wrong instantly. His lessons kind of suck, but he's a smart guy and you just need to take initiative to ask him for help.

nakamoto is a genius and has a great personality. only problem is that he doesn't realize that his students aren't capable of grasping the concepts as easily as he does. he's really busy and always going away on math / ib conferences but the subs we get are usually very helpful. his exams are very difficult but (when i was in math hl .. for 1 yr then dropped) he scaled accordingly.. thank god for that.

i'm studying for my math provincial right now, and i must say that mr nakamoto is the worst teacher that i have ever had in my entire life. he never teaches you ANYTHING and basically everything that you learn is what you learn by yourself.. he never answers questions, always gives you some IB higher level questions on a test, and NEVER HELPS AT ALL! just explains the very first basic step, gives you a ridiculously difficult question, and expects you to know it right away. i gave up on math cos of him.

Far more qualified than just being an high school math teacher. Nakamoto tends - I mean always expects his students to be geniuses like him, which is an unfortunate thing for his students. The materials he teaches are acutally really helpful to his students especially in their future studies, but of course they tend to be 2-3 yrs ahead of our grade level. Self study or tutor and reading ahead is the key in his class. OH and for gr 11 or 12's students, watch out he loves putting on EUCLID q's on his test O_o

Theoretically, his tests and quizzes should not be difficult. However, he has a tendency to include questions that he never teaches us about, which is why the tests are hard. To do well in his class, you need to self-study and read ahead so that you are prepared for such questions on his tests.

A Very harsh teacher when comes to marking and tests. I am really struggling to get an awsome grade in his class (it's mostly because his tests are soo hard). Also, he Cant teach. Spend more than half of the class talking about personal stuff (really.. who cares about TI-93), while we should really do more calculus. He teaches HLs with the same relaxed style as he teaches Gr9s. Over all, i would say a nice person who CanNot teach.

Jim Nakamoto is awsome. He's so nice. I like him. He's cool. Really he is, he doesn't check your homework because he expects his students to not be idiots (a mistake maybe?) and trusts that they will get the work done because they know it helps them. I mean seriously, some students seem to think that mathteachers somehow gain strength from checking homework and having homework done for their class? Well if you do then he isn't for you. But for the rest of us he's super awsome.
