Looking back, I can honestly say that Nakamoto's style of teaching is the best preparation for university. Yes, he gives few examples when he teaches and seemingly throws impossible tests at you. But that's the point - he doesn't want to spoon feed everything to students, unlike the easier math teachers. You have to go home and self study.
If you're in Nakamoto's class and doing poorly, DON'T TRANSFER! Take it as a lesson that YOU need to change. University will thank you for it.
He just retired this year. He saw the potential in me despite I having the lowest marks in the class and gave me a 7. Omg Please come back!!!!!!!!!!!
It's hard to get a high mark in his class before scaling, because the content he teaches is WAY beyond high school level. Great teacher. I'm going to miss him. Happy retirement! Have fun with IB work
boring. failed math. liked his stories but he didnt help much with my math
He's a good person and brilliant in Math. When he gets down to teaching, he REALLY teaches. Clear and precisely. On, the other hand, those times are rare.
he talks about ti calculators more than anything. then, about his life. then, TRIES to explain some math. but he scales up the marks. (his tests are hard)
His material is hard and his quizes are sometimes not related to what he taught, but, the things he teaches are really interesting and he tries to broaden the field of math that his students interact with.
He's nice, but way too hard. It's not all of us are in IB.
he didnt help me even though i needed it and he failed me for the year even though it was by 2 percent
You can't hate Nak, you just can't. His classes are for students who have already grasped the mathematical concepts he's about to teach. Had him for three years and my math mark basically went down the drain. Never had such low marks in my life. Ruined many prospects. My final IB mark was higher than what he predicted (and like that matters). VERY nice guy, amazing mathematician, just a poor teacher. Please go teach at university lectures, they need you.
Worst teacher. Smart mathematician - but he CANNOT teach! He drones on and on about his ib conferences and his TI calculators. Then he does a whole chapter in one day. One example, two - max. Then, we get weeks and weeks of "playing" with his useless calculators - and then we have a test. Really hard test. He expects us to know it. BUT HE DOESN'T TEACH!
He's a smart person and a good teacher, he's just lazy. Once, my friends and I kept getting the wrong answers for everything and we asked him why; he took about 10 seconds to say a couple of words and we saw what we did wrong instantly. His lessons kind of suck, but he's a smart guy and you just need to take initiative to ask him for help.
he's a smart guy..but not a smart teacher, I think he should be a scientist or mathematician instead of a teacher..
nakamoto is a genius and has a great personality. only problem is that he doesn't realize that his students aren't capable of grasping the concepts as easily as he does. he's really busy and always going away on math / ib conferences but the subs we get are usually very helpful. his exams are very difficult but (when i was in math hl .. for 1 yr then dropped) he scaled accordingly.. thank god for that.
i'm studying for my math provincial right now, and i must say that mr nakamoto is the worst teacher that i have ever had in my entire life. he never teaches you ANYTHING and basically everything that you learn is what you learn by yourself.. he never answers questions, always gives you some IB higher level questions on a test, and NEVER HELPS AT ALL! just explains the very first basic step, gives you a ridiculously difficult question, and expects you to know it right away. i gave up on math cos of him.
he alwayz jumps from the first step to da last...n no one gets it. But he's a really nice and funny teacher
Far more qualified than just being an high school math teacher. Nakamoto tends - I mean always expects his students to be geniuses like him, which is an unfortunate thing for his students. The materials he teaches are acutally really helpful to his students especially in their future studies, but of course they tend to be 2-3 yrs ahead of our grade level. Self study or tutor and reading ahead is the key in his class. OH and for gr 11 or 12's students, watch out he loves putting on EUCLID q's on his test O_o
Theoretically, his tests and quizzes should not be difficult. However, he has a tendency to include questions that he never teaches us about, which is why the tests are hard. To do well in his class, you need to self-study and read ahead so that you are prepared for such questions on his tests.
mr. nakamoto is so funny!! but how does this help our math skills again?
This guy is like.... pretty cool, and smart (he contributed in the math 10 textbook) but yeah, marks real hard.
he's a really nice and funny teacher. negative side: he sucks at teaching. CHURCHILL NEEDS TO GET SOME GOOD MATH TEACHERS!
A Very harsh teacher when comes to marking and tests. I am really struggling to get an awsome grade in his class (it's mostly because his tests are soo hard). Also, he Cant teach. Spend more than half of the class talking about personal stuff (really.. who cares about TI-93), while we should really do more calculus. He teaches HLs with the same relaxed style as he teaches Gr9s. Over all, i would say a nice person who CanNot teach.
mr. nakamoto is a great teacher. to understand what he just taught you have to pay attention, right down what he put on the projector as well as what he says(i usually put it in my own words). if you get confused just ask questions he doesn't mind.
hmm..he's soooo nice. coz he lets us talk in class and stuff..juz..smart..2 smart 4 us. LOL.
he's EXTREMELY nice and no doubt an absolute genius. he just can't teach. honestly, i was getting 85 - 90%s last year in math, and now i don't think i'm even getting a B anymore. he doesn't explain things, he just writes them on the overhead and turns it off the next second. i have NEVER hated math this much.
um, he always talks about asia, every class, he says something like "That reminds me of the time i went to singapour and bought a t-shirt that said stuff on it!"
good at math, very good at math, very very good at math! teaching though is just average.
being a university teacher suit him more in my opinion
THe best Teacher Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the best teacher in Math, you will see it very clearly after u transfer to other math classes!!!
He is a pretty awesome guy. he knows his stuff really well and tho he marks a lil hard, u get his idea and u do pretty great on big exams and stuff. luvs him!
This guy is a genius! only problem is he thinks his students are genius' too. he'll expect you to know everything already. goodluck.
Pretty cool guy; DEFINETLY knows his stuff. He's nice to his students, but sometimes confusing. Very, VERY smart... xD So if you're not, then you're in trouble.
very funny, helpful teacher, he gave me an A on my math
Very hard, but nice and funny. Too bad he's away most of the time busy...
Impossibly.CONFUSING!nice, but talks too much about himself so u have 5 mins left for actual [email protected] end&then a test the next day.tests count4everything
Not an effective teacher since he assumes that we are geniuses. He makes math uninteresting and overwhelmingly hard.
must be one of the most knowledgeable teachers in math in the world...his teaching style is unique and expects students to self-study...world-class teacher~!
For a teacher he doesn't teach much, and go all over the place for his own stuff. But at the same time he is difficult, thats the worst combo, especially IBHL
If all teachers are like him we have a perfect world
Cool guy..goodstories but is really confusing for taking notes.U neverknow what's important.Takes4grantedthatuknowstuff.Tests .r.hard.&count.4.ur.whole.mark
well i do remember my grade 12 year with him. i spent all year playing chess. ok teacher, but we don't want to learn.ha well, to those grade 8 or10kids,whocares
Well...he kinda teaches like a college prof...good thing for people who are good at math/like math. Rather vague...teaches like it's just for fun. Nice though
He is always in his room..he never teaches anything just expects us to do our work..he is nice though..and his tests are sooo hard cause he makes them himself!when he actually talks to the class he ends up talking more about something else other than math
He teaches really well. And the stuff are really useful~~
um...so-so, u except us to learn math by ourselves, u rarely teach in class(talks about ur son...good stories tho)
He's the smartest math teacher, but on the other hand one of the worse in making me understand math
best help ever for my university math course! i actually don't have to know more
Once you enter university, you will see how great Nak was.
VERY hard. he knows a lot, but doesn't know how to present them.
his test are super hard... he counts them 100% of ur grade .. very unclear teach
I like him, he's so cool~~ and he wrote the math book!! I got 94%, haha~
wastes a lot of time... doesn't give specific expectations
talks at different speed, no check hw, tests no make sense. BAD
cool guy, BAD teacher. Doesn't explain nething to class n expects you to kno it
expected u to know everything when he wasn't explaining clearly...
AHHHH!! confusing class o.0 spends most of the class talking about nothing
Very hard tests, but explains effectively. Has great sense of humour.
