I felt so lucky to be in her class because she really helped me prepare for university a lot. Her solutions were very clear and straightforward and her tests were easy as well. But honestly, she might not be described as friendly. Her retirement was a loss for OT.
shes a tough cookie, but she REALLY knows her stuff. super super helpful and insists that every student ask questions all the time. she will call you out in front of the whole class though - and dont EVER be late.
Ok here's the rundown on Vankova. She has a bad rep. Justifiably so because she yells a lot. I've seen kids yelled at for looking out the window too long. However, she is an extremely competent math teacher who is perfectly willing to answer questions and teach you properly. Very intimidating but an excellent teacher overall. Don't switch out, just be prepared to listen and do your work.
She sucks in Grade 9 because she's very strict and isn't good at helping students who haven't gotten into the high school math groove. But the older you get the more you appreciate her and realize just how much knowledge about math she has.
vankova super chill especailly if she likes you.... great teacher
Is she eccentric? Yes. Does she call people out? Yes. But she's a great teacher. Her lessons are clear and concise. She goes over the logic of every question and will push you to become a better math student. Don't be afraid to ask her questions - she can be very helpful.
People who complain about Vankova just don't listen or have respect for teachers tbh
Yeah, she will probably call you out once in a while, but she pushes her students and preps them well for tests
SUPER nice if you just have a regular conversation with her too, she's not a demon, you just need to participate in class and show that you care. Vankova is great!!
She is very intimidating when you first enter the class. However after about 1 month into the semester you will get use to the intimidation. Yells at about 3 kids a day so if you ever get yelled at don't be embarrassed because she probably will yell at every kid in your class by the end of the year. She is very sweet when she isn't talking about math. If you aren't use to respecting teachers she will change your habits. She will like you if you answer questions, do homework, ask for help.
Very bad class environment. Yells at you when you answer a question wrong, which might really discourage you from asking/answering questions.
Ms. Vankova is an excellent teacher. Got 98 and 99 in first year calculus back in 2012 because she taught me so well. Just don't be a slacker in her class.
I dont know what to say... Super helpful but can be intimidating sometimes... Super helpful too
Excellent math teacher! I love how she uses the blackboard in her lessons and her strictness is actually very motivating to keep up with homework. I had her for grade 10 and 11 math and although I didn't get perfect grades, I did do very well considering I was never good at math. As long as you try and put effort into this class, she will respect you.
She's very strict. And very scary. Do not EVER talk back to her like you know everything, or she will yell at you. Also never eat in her class. She does ridicule you if you can't answer a question fast enough. Her tests are pretty hard, but do what she asks you to do in the beginning of the year(read your notes) and you'll be fine. She's a very sweet person otherwise and she usually likes students who come and ask for extra help. Try and get on her good side and she'll be less intimidating.
Vankova is quite the character. In terms of teaching skills, she's undoubtedly an amazing teacher, it's her intimidation factor that scares students away, and tends to hinder their learning. If you look past the intimidation, and actually read over your notes as she says, you'll be fine
Vankova is a very strict teacher. she is very scary and intimidating. however, these qualities do help you stay on top of your homework and you will always pay attention in class. even though she is s
Although very intimidating, Vankova is an excellent teacher. She definitely knows what she's talking about and communicates information well.
Vankova was the best Math teacher I've ever had. Cowen is also up there but she was my tutor. Ive never had a math teacher that cared so much about her student's marks.
She's a good teacher. Actually makes you understand the concepts, but she is extremely strict...kinda scary sometimes. But for educational value...great.
i have never had a scarier teacher. if you talk, your out. If you don't take notes, your out. if you answer a question wrong, your out. Look out for the random homework checks.
She is a really good teacher but she can be a little bit scary sometimes
She is always willing to help but can be very intimidating at times. Take notes, keep a neat binder and DON'T TALK AT ALL...or else. A good teacher, though.
