RUN WHILE YOU CAN, I'M SERIOUS.
More seriously, when talking about Farid, a lot has to be discussed. Farid could be an amazing teacher, he could, that's what's sad! He is a nice person, but the worst teacher... His teaching is unclear. No class notes. You don't know when or what to write anymore. He makes his exams very hard, the average fails all semester. He told us once that "some people are trying to go into med school here" and that's when it all made sense. I should stop here.
Ok. Let's face it. Farid is not an easy teacher. In fact, his exams are pretty challenging (no calculator). However, his explanations are so clear and his examples are so good that it makes his exams a piece of cake. I swear that if you do all the homework he assigns, you will do great. Stay up to date and you'll be fine! Exams reflect the homework. Overall, Farid is by far my favourite math teacher, because he made the course so much more interesting. Farid, t'es le meilleur!!
One of the worst teachers I have ever taken in my life, his ratings seem oddly high but don't be fooled. Not dropping his class was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made! If he is your last option I would still not recommend taking this class it's not worth it. You are on your own in this class, no notes whatsoever.
HAD HIM FOR CAL 1 OK FOR REAL ANYONE WHO COMPLAINS ABOUT HIS TESTS PROBABLY NEVER EVEN DID THE HOMEWORK HE ASSIGNS NOR LISTENED/ASKED HIM QUESTIONS IN CLASS. Literally he doesn't even give anything extra than what he assigns and yet people complain! And NO i'm not saying this because i'm a math genius and whatnot (you REALLY DON'T need to get a good mark). You just need to have the will to learn and he will help you with all pleasure and patience because he's passionate about what he's teaching
He knows his stuff. I had him for linear algebra, and it was one of the most challenging classes I've ever had because I was on my own. If you invest time in the material you will learn so much despite the fact that he is a difficult teacher. He expects you to read the textbook pages before class, and goes through it in class to explain and do the proofs on the board. His tests were not too difficult, but his grading was harsh. He will most likely not pass you if you have a 58-59.
Alright here's the thing, his classes were enjoyable but his tests were not. The way he teaches is quite unique. He wants you to understand the material properly, which is why he barely gives proper notes (You have to rego through the material at home and write them yourself). He will assign an excessive amount of homework which you should do if you want to pass, yes all of it, well most of it. Study regurarly, go to his office, a lot and you should pass given that you understood the material.
Some students give high reviews, and then give negative comments. Yes you need to be able to teach yourself, so what is he paid for then! Class notes are useless, exams are much harder than what is done in class, and in other classes. AVOID, he is not worth taking unless you are a math genious. He is the worst I have ever had. hopefully this comment wont be deleted as with the others!
I absolutely loved Farid. The way he teaches Linear Algebra is absolutely amazing. Yes, his tests are quite challenging but if you do all your homework you should be fine. The class averages in general are very low for the tests (the averages go below 60 easily). However, the final exam was relatively easy and boosts the average to high 60s. I recommend this teacher to those who can teach themselves and ENJOY learning. 10/10
The worst teacher I've had at Vanier. He barely writes any notes on the board (he mostly talks and what he says tends to be very unclear), his exams are very difficult and he doesn't prepare you for them, he doesn't care about helping his students pass, he gives pop quizzes at the most random times, he gives a ton of homework from the book but doesn't like the book's answers, & his class average was significantly lower than other linear algebra class averages this semester. Please don't take him
Farid was an AMAZING Cal 1 teacher. He's super knowledgeable and really wants the class to understand calculus. If you have any trouble in calculus, go to his office hours. He will sit down with you and help you until you clearly understand what to do. He's super funny and actually makes calculus classes fun. I did all the homework he assigned and it really helped. If you do your homework, ask questions when you don't get something and go to office hours for help, you'll be more than ok.
He knows what he's teaching. Farid is a really nice guy. However, his class tests are extremely difficult. Gives homework as if cal is the only class you have.. You have to be really good at maths to pass his class. His office hours are always very crowded. All in all, avoid if you love yourself.
Very good teacher!!! If you study and do your homework, you will have good grades. Tests are based on homework.
Take him only if you intend to study.
He marks fairly but his exams are hard; and he's super honest with his students- about 50% of the class are gonna fail and he lets everyone know that if they won't study they will be in that 50%.
His explanations are pretty good and he's very friendly, but he's also super busy during his office hours so you'll have to wait a long time if you really wanna ask him a something..
ABORT ABORT ABORT. I don't care if he's entertaining or sassy, I'm in college for good grades , not to have an average of 46. Although if you are stuck with him, get ready for an exaggerated amount of homework and his attitude to be directed at you.
very interesting teacher to say the least. Its clear he knows what hes talking about and he makes calculus more interesting than you would expect it to be. if you do a few hw problems you dont have to do the rest (repetitive). His exams are decently difficult its very hard to get 90s. Also has office hours so you can go see him whenever. U cannot use a calculator (thought this would be horrible at first but trust me it makes it so he cant give you difficult questions).class average is also low :)
I may have rated him in a good manner, but hear me out before you choose him;
He's a very amusing teacher, takes the class to a whole new level,
makes you love calculus, but yet,
gives tests hard enough to bring the average to 46(ish!).
If you really want to learn, go with this guy, you'll enjoy the class rather than just pass.
if you wanna be some slacker, still choose this guy, he's going to teach you alot of lessons for small headed minds.
I am almost done with my studies at Vanier and after taking other math teachers that where supposed to be the best (looking at rate my teacher), and since I took him I knew that he was the best!... and he is. So here it is : If you want to learn calculus 1 really well while having fun (since he makes the class really interesting), if you work hard (do the homework), if you are good in math and you want a nice R-score YOU SHOULD TAKE HIM!! He is an awesome person AND teacher! (I got 94%---> 36)
Farid is AWESOME. He is an excellent teacher and an even cooler person. He does everything to make class interesting and truly wants his students to succeed. He really knows his math and really wants his students to develop his passion too. His tests are really hard but he makes sure you can easily pass if uou do the homework. Above 80 is very hard but thats the way he plans it. Awesome teacher but high standards
I really do like this teacher he is funny and clearly knows what he's teaching but I think he has unrealistic expectations from his students. He often gives multiple chapters for homework (sometimes for the next day) that its a challenge to keep up! He sets really strict time limits on his quizzes (like 3 minutes, I'm not even kidding) and believes that everyone learns and works better under pressure, which is clearly not the case since our class average is below 50%. Tests are hard.
He is a great teacher who knows his stuff and knows how to teach. He gives pop quizzes during class so make sure that you go to every class. If you understand and learn what he teach you in class, you will get really good marks but you really need to work hard for this class. You are not allowed to use calculator in class and his exam are made so that you don't have to use it. Brief, amazing teacher, teaches really well!
I had him for cal 1.Trust me, one of the best math teachers I've had so far. Most of the comments here are probably from people who failed his course, haven't worked hard or done anything and still expected to pass.Just do your HW and ask questions, you'll be more than fine.He loves it when you go see him during office hours and WILL do everything he can to help you out.He is a very nice and funny person.Just listen in class and be sure to understand. His tests are fair enough if you do the HW.
he was my cal1 teacher. If u take him, you should really work hard. And because i wasn't used to work that hard i was suffering with him. His teasts are fair if u do the homeworks he assigns. Obviously, u are not allowed to use the calculator, pop quiz is his favorite thing. Their is lot of other good math teacher but he is not that bad. Good luck if u take him.
Not the cal teacher you would want to take. He knows his stuff well and is always willing to give you extra help, but for some reason it's hard to learn in his classroom. Also a lot more work to achieve an average grade in his class. Not the teacher you want for your first college math class.
He is a very difficult teacher, but you learn a lot with him. He makes the class entertaining, as far as math goes. He is always available during office hours. As long as you put the time in to study, he's a great teacher!
Farid is a force of nature- or calculus, should one say. You definitely learn A LOT with him and have to do extensive work to get a remarkable grade with him. He is very helpful in class and during his office-hours. He can come off as being sarcastic and somewhat arrogant- but he still wants his students to succeed.
If you really like to be challenged and if you really want to learn Cal or Linear, take him.
Favorite teacher, ever.
He doesn't take attendance but he gives pop quizzes therefore it's recommended to show up. He is VERY knowledgeable and VERY nice. The tests are similar to questions from the homework, however there's so much material that it's difficult to retain everything. No formula sheet nor calculator is permitted. His grading scheme isn't severe since he gives partial points. If your procedure is accurate but you make calculation mistakes, you can still have all your points for a question. (Y)
Farid (call him by his first name) is a tough but great lecturer. Very knowledgeable, wants you to understand what math is! Loves proofs! As a person, he is very entertaining and always has funny stories to relate to life. However, I have to say that tests, exams are REALLY HARD. He has no pity whatsoever. Even if you did all the homework, you won't feel ready. Gives out pop quizzes so always show up! HE IS VERY TOUGH on grading and material but recommended. Took him for calculus 3.
Linalg: Farid was one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He forced the students to think outside the box; lectures were fun and dynamic. Lots of quizzes, and irrelevant homework from the textbook, but if you understand the material you'll get high 80s. If you'd rather memorize things than understand, don't take him. Also, proofs. Q.E.D.
Mathemagician. Though, you are required to ask questions and cooperate in his class otherwise he'll bomb you with quizzes.
Too many trolls are here. Study for his tests , you'll do fine. Go to his office hour, he'll help you out. He's a nice guy.
he teaches very well, except his tests are quite hard. so prepare yourself if you take him, overall i loved the way he taught.
hes a very hard teacher! he knows his stuff and hes there to help u but his tests are hell!
Homework is mostly irrelevant and way too hard to allow us to develop our skills
He is an amazing teacher, he always makes me laugh with his comments and stories. Makes math so enjoyable and fun,he always finds a way to intrigue you. I'm still not done with the course, but this is
If you want to get prepared for university.. Take him
You have to be REALLY REALLY good in math to succed with this teacher. You also have to work CONSTANTLY... His test seems hard but it's more the stress that he puts on us that makes us FAIL. Although
he really knows his stuff but his marking is impossible. it was like an english class, focusing on notations! quizzes and tests are brutal. if you like math take him, if you wants 80s, 90s avoid!!!!
His teaching is excellent, but that doesn't help you do well in the course. 20% of the grade is pop quizzes and the assigned exercises don't help you master the material because they are unreasonable.
Anyone who says this teacher is difficult, simply failed his course from not working hard enough. This is a great teacher and he loves what he does, can't say that about many others. Thumbs up.
TOUGH GRADER....its not normal to be this mean and heartless. Its not that hes a bad teacher, but he covers too much material, too quickly, does not take time to revise and has NO SYMPATHY at all.
hes the best math teacher @ vanier ppl who complain r those who study a few days be4 the test n still expect high grades. u have to practice, its math, hes my favourite teacher n an inspiration.
Best math teacher I've had.Tests can be tricky, but it's not hard to pass. It's hard to get a hight grade. Explains very well and has a lot of office hours.
Best math teacher ever!! He really made me like math. Hes a hard grader but he makes you understand and he really teaches you and is always available for questions!!! if you can, take him
AWESOME teacher! knows his stuffs and explains very well. his test might be a little hard, but if you do your work you'll do fine. I love his classes. (never skipped until now xD) Great humour/sarcasm
spare urself the misery and just avoid this teacher. his tests r so hard that half to class fails and he doesn't even care, he just moves on.
good teacher, he has a good knownledge in math. his class is so funny, hes so sarcastic =D
he doesn't allow calculators on any of his tests or exams! plus he makes u memorize so much theory. spends too much time explaining how to do problems without a calculator. just avoid him.
OMG Farid he is the best math teacher i have ever had, wish i could take him again in the next semester.i was bad in math, because of him i'm improving.
i agree he is the WORST MATH TEACHER EVER.....no clear explanations, useless notes tooooo
Currently taking his course in Differential Equations. Extremely well done course, Farid is very helpful. Despite other people's reactions, it's not his ability not to teach, it's their ability not to learn. He's always around when needed.
I dont understand why people like him. yes he can be funny he doesnt care is people fail come on in my class maybe 10 people passed and only 3 over 70. the avg was in 50's he is horribble avoid please
My favourite teacher ever and one of the most enjoyable human beings around. He would help you ANYTIME with absolutely ANYTHING, not only math. Whenever he has the time, he'll chill with you! The "fun
Really nice guy....bad teacher. gives tonnes of homework and doesnt correct it or give you the answers. really hard exams. very little theory, just examples. never finishes explaining problems.
My fav college teacher so far, if i wasnt switching schools id take him for sure.. if you wanna learn some cool things, highly recommended, no workload if u kno ur stuff.. intimidating but nice guy
omg, i don't know how to use my calculator anymore!Awesome.Never thought I would love math, always hated it.Gr8t teacher, hard tests,ok final, always willing to help.An opprotunity to get smart in math!!
The single best math teacher I have ever had. INCREDIBLY intelligent. He is ridiculously tough, but if you work and know math you'll do fine. I usually get mid-90s in math and with him I have mid-80s.
A smart & sweet guy, offers mucho help, hard tests, tons of homework. Super teacher, but if my math course was not pre-registered and i had the freedom 2 choose, i wouldn't choose him. R-score kapput.
REALLLLLYYY HARD!!!, MORE THAN HALF THE CLASS IS FAILLING....IMPLICITLY INSULTS YOU IN CLASS, HE THINKS THAT MATH IS ALL YOU GOT IN LIFE...HE EXPECTS YOU TO DO MATH EVERYDAY FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS!!
He is friendlly and explains very well, but be aware, his exams were hard.
I don't have to say much... read the other rating... I don't feel like typing...
He is the best teacher if you are the type that's in it, the worst if you expect to be lazy.. you really feel he likes what he is doing and it reflects on you so you can actually have fun while doing maths as weird as it sounds.. you are expected to do your job if you want to pass though, he doesn't give gifts which help you on the long run; in the next maths classes you will take. Very helpful even if you have no clue and often gives quizzes..
He is a great teacher !!! Do all your homework and if you dont understant just go and see him:) He will always be there to help you . . .Do all your homework and you will find that the exams are not that hard. Take him if you want to learn math :) :)
He's the best math teacher I ever had. His tests are hard, but he teaches very well!!!
allround best math teacher ever AMAZING is the word to describe him
an AMAZING teacher i usually dont vote for my teachers but farid deserves one. one of the smartest mathmaticians ive ever met i have great respect for him instead of teaching formulas and giving you them he makes you understand how they were created. His logic is undescribable very unique thinks very logically and smartly. REFUSES TO USE CALCULATORS so if u cant handle that dont take his class he helps u look at problems from several different perspective which helps you alot on the tests.
i m having him this semester and he is the best. he is a very good teacher. he has all kind of explainations if u don't understand one method. he is very helpful. even if u ask him same question for 100000000...... times, he will explain u smiling. he is the best! take him if u really want to do something in ur life.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! dont listen to the other students...this teacher expects you to make math your life!! any other teacher is better than HIM!! even if he explains good, his tests r out of this world!!...very very tufff!!! you must spend 5days a week on math if u wanna pass!!..tuff teacher n not very helpful!! i regret taking him!!
I`ve had him 2 semesters in a row. Really great teacher, really nice guy! Explains well, is always there if you need help. His tests are a little hard. All you have to do is do all the homework and study your notes! I got an 86 in Cal1 and a 77 in Cal2 with him! Take him! Don`t hesitate, he`s very popular!
best teacher ever had him for cal2 passed with a 90. But beware he's challenging so if you're a slacker this guy is so not for you. for those who want to learn take him he's a great teaccher always there for you if you need help and wants you to succeed. his quizzes and test are challengig but not impossible so do all the assigned homework and pay attention in class it's a guaranteed pass. THANK YOU YOU FARID!!!
Dont listen to these reviews, he practically begs you to go see him in his office. he wants to help and all you need to do is do your homework and you'll most definetly do well. you will learn alot
He is a cool guy but tets were hard. You have to work hard. But explains well.
Genuinely nice smart guy. Knows his stuff, but tests are a real hassle!
He's pretty excellent, but incredibly difficult in testing situations.
this guy is tough. i am a 90% student in math and i got 83. He is so nice and would help u anytime. Take if u are avaerage. if u have trouble stay away- u will fail
a very good teacher but gives too much homework. class tests very difficult.
His tests are really hard and that all you need to know. He helps you out but his tests are really hard. If you want to go far in life, this guy will guide you.
he's a really good teacher... but his tests are hard... great helpful person... if you take him... you will have fun in Math.. he explains really well.
Ok, yes he's nice, yes he's very helpful, but he gives a lot of homework and his test are hard. If you're failing he tries to help as much as possible, so he ro
He's an excellent teacher but when it comes to the tests, well, u sometimes need miracles. Take him if your really good in math.
he is a very good teacher and very very helpful, but his tests are really hard even if you know all your materials.well i got good grade so, thank you farid!!!
Da BEST teacher!Always put his students 1st & willing 2 help out.Workload is fair.Don't procrastinate! He likes 2CU @ office hours & offers candy if ur lucky!
He is really a good teacher. He helps a lot.He doesn't like to fail. He gives chances to students. I know he is a little hard but nice teacher.
i will not lie, he is tough!!! he gives a lot of hmwk BUT he is the BEST and SMARTEST guy u will ever meet. Do some hmwk and u will pass well. DONT WORRY TAKE
He's the best. U want to pass, u just have to work REALLY hard. He xplains very well and has a wonderful smile.
hey guys farid is the best take him and u will see that you will do stuff that u never thought will be able to do in maths..( he'll make u do if ur willing)
ok look, this guy is really nice, and he's got a heart of gold. but chances are you WILL fail. class average for science students was61. his tests are too hard
He's a great teacher, always willing to help, and has a wonderful smile. His tests are hard though, so if you pass his class, you know that you deserve it.
He is tough but fair. He explains very well and i just dont understand why ppl complain. Hes one of the best at vanier.
He is an excellent math teacher. He has his own unique teaching method ,and the material is well-organized.His eyes and smile are really appealing.
A MUST TAKE TEACHER! this guy can teach. He is hard and his test are long but just listen and do yout homework and youll get over 70. He's great-TAKE
I failed his class, but when I had a decent chance of passing, he did a lot to help me pass, I would suggest to take him
it's the best math teacher ever. very clear & vry helpful, vry friendly. there's no way u'll get bored in his classes.study hard and u'll be fine.thanx farid.
