Ms. Somers is by far the worst art teacher I have ever had in my life. She plays favourites, is so strict and rigid in her teaching style, and has no idea what it means to encourage students' creativity. All you have to do is take one of her classes and compare it with Mr. Tryphonopoulos and you will see a huge difference. She makes people hate art, which is such a disappointment considering she teaches the grade 9 class so often.
Worst experience I've had. She plays favorites VERY hard, and you're in for a LONG semester if you aren't one. Even if you remind her many, many times about something (ie. you'll be away on a certain day), she'll still forget and get upset with you. Marks hard and there will be a lack of communication between you and her if she does not like you. Worst thing is if she promises a work period after a "quick chat", you'll be lucky if you get 20 minutes to work. Switch out, unless you're good at art
She's pretty nice and helpful, but plays favourites :(
I guess she's pretty nice or at least not overly mean but she marks based on who she likes. Wrote down 0s for me for projects that I showed to her, she didn't correct the zeros at all. Needs to make projects more exciting and takes up half the class doing boring review
She takes forever to explain things in her class.... but after that, the art projects are actually quite fun. Moderately strict, goes by favoritism, and takes little mistakes very seriously. Very difficult to get over a 90% if she doesn't like you.
Ms.Somers is an artist herself, but she takes things way too seriously. She only picks the students that she likes and goes by favourism. Luckily, I'm one of her favourite student. -Anon
Ms.Somers is nice, if you treat her with respect. She makes assignments FUN, but practice, practice, practice! Go over your notes before you take a test. Know the basic elements of design and show that you are having fun in her class. She is helpful in terms of fixing teeny mistakes on projects (such as sculpting). She doesn't like people who are late for class, but you have to shush when she is speaking or else you'll get in trouble. Show that you love visual arts and express your creativity!
Ms. Sommers is a nice teacher who is pretty easy going. If you aren't finished an assignment, so can always stay during your lunch to get it done. She spends a little too much time with test review, and you go over the same material three times. She never tells anyone they lack artistic ability, and will help improve. She also lets people resubmit work sometimes. While there are some students who generally get higher marks than me, it is more of because the quality of work is better than bias.
Ms. Somers gave me one of the worst experiences ever. The class began with her informing me that I lack the ability to do art in any form. What's worst, she tells us what to do, then immediately gives us a summative assignment due within 3-4 days. These assignments are huge projects that take time and effort to test and understand. It is as if she expects us to already know what to do without being taught. In addition, she refuses to accept work that is late, even if only for 5 minutes.
She is reeaaallly nice and understanding, and she knows what shes teaching, she jut needs to work on making it interesting. She'll give you a good mark as long as you put effort into your work :)
She spends way too much time in the beginning of class, trying to take up tests and explain work. Her marking is based on if she likes you or not. But overall, she's a tolerable teacher.
she says that the next day is going to be a work period but she ends up talking for half the period . takes so long to explain simple things . her marking is extremely vague .
many people don't like her, but i found her okay. but she's a bit objective in art.
She looks nice but really not. Her tests are easy and she marks pretty easy at times. She is helpful sometimes too but gets annoyed when u talk alot even when your like talking very quietly and then move your seats!!
Marks were inconsistent, though easy most of the times. Did not record a mark properly so I lost 2 percent off my final. Most of the students dislike her, but she can be a very nice and helpful teacher at times.
Has very objective standards to a very subjective subject, although not as hard as everyone is making her out to be. =\
she give plenty of low marks and needs to see art that is by the book and doesnt like students who challenge themselves to discover new art. favours students dont wanna take art anymore because of her
well, lets put it this way, shes a nice teacher, but have biase, her examples on the board arent all that great and she gives low marks.
I think shes a good artist but she teaches awfully slow. For one thing, she loves to go back and review everything we learned yesterday and that is quite boring.
although i left semester 2 early in gr 12, i can tell u from gr 11 exprience, that she is a very good teacher, lightly favours (who doesnt have their biases?), makes art interesting, o.k. teacher
Only take her course if you are deeply an artist. She does favour some poeple, however her tests are extremely easy!I love her!She is the BEST:d n she gave me a 93 :d
ms s is definetly the coolest teacher, although shes kinda hard she knows whats she doing and can explain herself well...i really enjoy her class and she is funny!
never tells you what is being mark and what is not! marks way too hard! Always telling people to shut up and also FAVOURS certain people!
she gives EXTREMELY low marks...n she marks so freakin hard...*strict...
ms s rocks man..shes like the coolest person...im so bad at art..but she tries 2 help every1..she ROCKS!!
She's boring. She doesn't make it interesting. We rarely copy notes, but really, okay, she does favour people a lot, and I don't like art so much anymore.
worst teacher ever, she ruins everything. she wrecks works of students she doesnt like and favours people. hating art for the rest of my life just cause of her
She's really bad.. shes got a mask of niceless but her evilness and bias towards students really shows through and it makes art boring and regretful to take!
not a bad teacher ... but need to be more sympathetic with students
she doesn't know how to teach, makes art class horrible
A nice teacher, but the course is hard and not very helpful
