As an A+ student in her class, I would not recommend it for anyone. She is a very knowledgeable chemist but also a very arrogant teacher. She does not hesitate to humiliate her students for asking "dumb" questions blaming his or her lack of knowledge on not paying attention in class. Yet, the whole class was also wondering about the same question.. She targets specific students in class and clearly shows favoritism, not to the diligent students but to the ones that suck up to her.
Although smith is very knowledgable in chemidth, it doesnt compensate enough for her lack of communication skills, constant belitting and criticizing of students and very harsh demeanour. she always finds a way to insult students even when there is no problem. Not only does she intimidate her students as a way to keep control of her reputation as a "good" teacher, she makes it so that students trying to ask for help feel so scared that many actually do poorly in the class.
The best teacher you will ever come across. She is the heart and soul of AP Chemistry and will teach you like non other. TAKE HER CLASS and you will learn like never before. Hats off to the only teacher who teaches with a passion.
She was a very good teacher. She really has a passion in teaching and in trying to help us understand chemistry better.
You will absolutely hate her if you don't do your hw cause she will call u out in front of EVERYONE! but honestly she is the best teacher I have & will ever have. She cares so much about her students & she is amazingly so knowledgeable in Chemistry. Absolutely amazing teacher. Don't drop out. Trust me. As much as you might hate the class, dont do it!!! She is terrifying if you get on her bad side, but the best thing about her is if you show you're trying she'll love you!! Fav class of HS
Ms. Smith taught be so many life skills such as organization, time management and mostly to be confident about your answers. She taught me so much about chemistry I LOVE chemistry partly because of her! She is so caring, take her class!!!! REALLY GREAT IF YOUR PLANNING ON GOING TO UNIVERSITY. She lectures better than the professors there!
She's is an absolutely wonderful teacher. Unlike a lot of the other teachers a Yale she knows what she's doing. She understands how to teach and what needs to be done to keep students motivated. Unlike other teachers at Yale instead of waiting weeks before giving back homework and test she gives them back the very next day with feedback on how to improve and goes over the questions with the class. She dedicate genuine effort for her students and really cares about them succeeding. Great teacher
She is the most amazing teacher on this planet. Yes, she is like everyone said, TERRIFYING during her lectures. The things she teaches will concrete your way to university. But that is when you don't cheat in her class. Prepare for her class then she won't yell at you. She loves it when you treat her like human, not a monster. Learn from her. Literally she's the only one who cares in your education life. If you have the chance, take her class. She is the reason I am majoring in Chem.
Shes terrifying, but you can tell she really cares. Pretty positive she's the only teacher who stays until 6 o'clock every day except friday to help students. Really teaches Chem well. I don't regret taking her class. She has a really great sense of humour, and is an all around good teacher. She won't hesitate to call you out in front of the class, so make sure you do all your homework, and the reading. No homework=Death.
Ms. Smith is a scary teacher - that being said, you should definitely stay on her good side. But you should also know that's she's a FANTASTIC teacher. She travels around the world teaching professors at prestigious universities yet she chooses to educate high school students because she firmly believes that knowledge is only obtained once the basics are mastered. It's honestly a privilege to be taught by her SO DON'T TAKE HER CLASS LIGHTLY!!!
Absolutely fantastic teacher! Scary therefore you work super duper hard in her class or else she yells at you infront of the whole class when you don't do your homework. She stays super late everyday (like unlike 6 pm), helping students and works so hard just so her students will do well. She wants you to do well and is good at teaching it. Her students do an average of 10% better with her than with other teachers.
Most students are scared of her, but her teachings are very good. You may get scolded by her, but you can understand the concept well after her explanation during class. But I know that she is nice outside of class :P
Brutal class, very tough on her students. But, under the iron fist of the Smith, her students do manage to learn A LOT.
The Smith ROCKS!! Simply outstanding. There any time you needed her. Very helpful - not just for chemistry either.
She makes you try hard but i find her frightening. I am so scared to go talk to her that I think it almost makes her a poor teacher. I do respect what she does though.
Tough class. BUT... she is an awesome teacher, she cares about her students learning and tries her hardest to educate, even if it means 4 hours of hmwrk per day. thnx to her i dont even have to study for my first year university physical chem exams while other students are freaking out. Thnx Smith :)
she knows material and her subject. I think her knowledge is excellent. However knowing knowledge and knowing how to teach is different. She should learn how to teach or communicate with students.
I did find her pretty scary at points and she loves to single people out and ask them questions on topics she knows they struggle at and at some points, it seems cruel. There is always a student that she picks on. She is a very, very talented and smart lady but can come off very harsh and mean. She wants you to do your best and suceed and never sympathetic to excuses.
Just priceless teacher in Yale. She's TOO GOOD! She can be scary and mean to you, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be fine. I daresay the best chem teacher you will ever find in a thousand year.
soooo scary. but made class interesting. pretty much lived and breathed chem for a semester.
What a terrifying experience! But she is the best there is! She pushes you hard, and is always testing you in everyway, but it defineitly pays off . When you do well she lets you know, and once she knows you're in her class to work, and want to learn everything she has to teach she isn't so bad. She is however the most terrifying teacher to ever teach at Yale secondary, but even though she's terrifying she still wants all her students to succeed and do the best they possibly can.
Shudders ran through my body every time I went to that chemistry class. Indeed, the teaching methods are good, but trying to intimidate and embarress the students isn't the way to go.
Awesome teacher. Intimidating and loud but you learn your stuff. ALWAYS do your homework.
Intimidating teacher? No doubt! But she doesn't gets the cred she deserves...she helped me nail that provincial! She's available for help every day after school. Easily the best teacher I've ever had
Amazing teacher, I would not want to be stupid in her class however. She knows her stuff, and by the end of the year, so do you.
Absolutely terrifying and a horrible class to be in, but she's actually really cool and fun to talk to outside of class. And she deffinately prepared us for the provincial well.
The older I get, the more I realize the impact Ms. Smith has had on my life. She is an amazing teacher and dedicates herself entirely to something she loves.
Seriously a great teacher. Makes you work hard, but thats a good thing. Never got anything "bassackwards" thanks to her, I knew chem like the back of my hand by the end.
smith is awesome!!! seriously, it makes first year chem a breeze!!! the only problem is that you seem to be prepared for ONLY chem after you grad.. lol
Very intimidating for sure; but she is a fine and deligent teacher. However, I hate the fact she always scoffs the slow and less intelligent.
she is a great teacher, although her class is difficult, she helps you when you need it!!!
Amazing teacher. Do your work (especially in the AP class) or get burned. But if you try hard, the provincial's a breeze, and she will help you no end!
All I have to say is that in Alberta universities they expect you know the stuff she decided not to teach us...
Absolutely the BEST!! Helps you learn to learn (and not just about chemistry).
Scary at first. But she really wants to help you do well. Just don't slack and be lazy cuz she'll let you have it ten fold: ) You go Miss. Smith.
Talk about DEDICATION. Phenomenal preparation for provincials. I learned a lot for U of T.
Prepared me for the procincial very well. She deserves a lot of credit. Makes chemistry interesting and if you do well, she likes you, so just be commited!
Outstanding preparation for UBC Sciences!! (I miss those fuzzy stickers.)
Knows everything about everything. Very helpful if you go to her.
She knows her stuff and projects it in a way that we can understand and will go into added detail if we need the help. Passed with flying colours because of her
hmmm...what and odd sort of delight...i must say...she is less intellectual than fermented sewage fungus, but you cant blame her for pretending.
Excellent teacher. Students, although have to show DETERMINATION FOR CHEMISTRY. Available almost everyday after school for extra help so NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!
While she does know a lot about chemistry, she is very intimidating and knows it.
I have never learned so much as I have in her class. And she's not as bad as all that! She's very dedicated and quite funny - in a science teacher kindof way.
Can be very mean, but by the end of the course you're VERY well prepared. Spends countless extra hours helping her students while inspiring new depths of fear.
An extremelly intelligent teacher who definately knows her facts, but can be VERY scary!
This teacher means business... Slackers worst nightmare, but a parents godsend
Superb Teacher, tough, but her students are WELL PREPARED!!!
