If u have him, I highly recommend u switch out of his class if u can (especially if it's a grade 11 or 12 course). The actual work honestly isn't that bad and he doesn't really mind if u hand things in late - unless u do it often, in which case he'll start getting annoyingly passive-aggressive towards u. His lectures, discussions, and in-class activities r insanely boring. He's just plain annoying to listen to. I don't think I learned anything from his class, other than the from my own research.
Mr. McCabe is one of the most frustrating teachers I have ever had. His instructions are never clear, and often marks will be taken off assignments for not including something he never mentioned. He is laid back about due dates which is helpful, but you need to communicate. If you don't understand something or need more time, ASK HIM! He never engages his class in discussions. His class is the only one I have ever fallen asleep in. If you have his class, you have a lot of work to do. I'm sorry.
He isn't as bad as other's say he is in my opinion. Although he does stutter a lot, his discussions are indeed relevant to the subject, and his assignments aren't EXTREMELY bad, but I will say he has quite strict marking. After seeing the past reviews, I believe he has improved a lot, such as not clearly being biased, but, like everyone on this planet, can improve further. The fact that kids expect learning to be fun just pisses me off tbh, coming from a much harder private school.
Gives a lot of Homework.
I cannot agree with anything this man does on any basis. The constant talking causes almost everybody in the class to pass out along with the added favorites he keeps next to him at all times. He also tries to act as if nothing is wrong with the class he cannot be as blind to not notice everybody's boredom. All i can say is that this teacher is not for somebody who wan'ts to get the best out of history class.
he's literally the worst teacher I have ever had. He won't listen to you and what you have to say, if you ask to discuss something that has to do with the topic he says see me after class. He is absolutely useless, and he is boring as hell. He is hands down the worst teacher at lisgar I hope he gets fired.
Eccentric. He tends to go on for a while about a topic, and there's a lot of information to process, but if you can get the important parts and remember them FOR AT LEAST TWO MONTHS then you'll be fine. Especially small stuff remember it. His essays are very different from the type you do in English class. Your eyesight will worsen, guaranteed 100% because of the constant light switching he does. Overall, hard teacher but not impossibly hard.
Despite other negative reviews, I loved having him as a teacher! If you actually try a little bit, you can get a great mark in his class. He knows a lot about history, and you can tell he likes teaching it. I learned a lot!
His history class is so much fun. Yes he talks in front of the class basically the entire time so if you come to class tired good luck but overall he is a good teachef. He gives a lot of work and projects but he is always there to help. He is funny and roasts students. Fun class
He thinks that you like him even though you hate him. He gave instructions saying you could have secondary sources and then when I did them he said i couldn't have any and lost marks. Then I showed him the instructions he assigned us saying that you could have secondary sources but then he was like no that is for future instances.....
He is so useless whenever you ask him a question because he always avoids it and goes on a 7 minute tangent about something unrelated. Never expect a reply when you email him about an assignment--he's a "face-to-face" kind of teacher.
The in-class experience is worse. He drones on and on about. We never do any group work. We're not even allowed to TALK when we do textbook work. There is no interactive learning.
If you find out he's your teacher, switch out immediately. Seriously.
Worst teacher I have ever had.
Such a great teacher! He is so helpful and is respectful and devoted to all his students! Amazing teacher! Do everything you can possibly do to GET into his class.
I had two classes with Mr. McCabe and got so much out of both of them. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and while not the best at time management, he at least pushes you hard to share his enthusiasm and learn as much as you can in a year. Yes there's a project every week, but just wait for university; McCabe is only getting you ready. Remember, whiners are wieners.
It's important to keep an open mind. You are not going to be fed the curriculum and be done with it.
Worst teacher ever, you have to be on a list to ask a question. One simple mistake he say fix it and go back on the list. Took him 3 day to check over 10 questions and he gives you a 60-79 if you don't meet his expectations and impossible to get over 89%. Worst teacher ever doesn't let you talk and its extremely boring in his class. Drop out!!!
Favoritism, doesn't know what he teaches, if u ask him a question he doesnt know the answer to any of them, not helpful, doesn't explain, marks like a maniac, even things that english teachers wouldnt mark, worst teacher in the school. He never gives you a 90. He expects everyone to write what he wants. Otherwise, you get 60 no matter what. like who, who did an excellent job on an essay, the other people in the class said so, and he give a 60. Hates people who know history. Horrible Teacher!!!!!!
He doesn't answer questions and doesn't let you go to the bathroom avoid HIM if you can and try to drop his classes
Doesn't know what hes teaching, favoritism, and obscure instructions. Got a 67 for a project he should have explained better.
he is a..... unique marker. He never ever ever gives you a 90. He expects students to do exactly what he wants. Otherwise, you get 60 no matter what. Also, if you 'meet expectation', you get 70~79. L
Not very clear, usually avoids questions (probably because he doesn't know what he's "teaching"), tends to pick favourites. Thank god I only have to put up with 6 more days of him.
Provides no details; just very vague instructions. Marks quite strangely: crossed out a word, presumingly spelling error, then crossed the crossout. heavily biased. un-open to debates. terrible. yeah.
marks are easy if you do what he wants, but sometimes he's very vague. doesn't answer questions well, and can be very annoying with his enthusiasm. a nice guy but not a good teacher.
WORST TEACHER!! He is not clear in giving assignments, his marking scheme is unfair and only agrees with his opinion, doesn't listen to other students opinions
Assigns too many assignments (one right after another), giving us very little time to complete them. Does not teach concisely. Marks harshly. Worst combination for a teacher.
Definitely picks favourites. Doesn't listen to the students and doesn't seem to care about anything but hearing his own voice.
Very hard and unsopportive teacher.. gave me a 12% and when i asked him in midterm how i am doing he says im doing realy good..
marks way too hard to be popular and don't really know how to control the class. He's a nice guy thought.
Impossible to get perfect on his tests no matter who you are. Wastes times, and everyone is wrong except him.
Worst teacher ever. He goes on rants too often, and glazes over students' questions. His clarity is questionable as well.Overall, he just can't teach a class at Lisgar. He's not suitable for the job.
Again, of the teachers that just simply drive you nuts. He is one of the most harsh teacher I've ever seen (besides Grills).
if i had to sit through good morning class one more time i was going to shoot myself. the way he marks is ridiculous. seriously if you write in a long winded incomprehensible fashio where you restate the saem point five different ways with a thesaurus next to you, he will love you. if you write consisely you will get worse marks. the primary source documents thing also dumb and annoying
I thought he was OK. There were a couple times when I felt that my mark had suffered because he wasn't clear in his instructions, but he really enjoys what he teaches and I think by marking so hard he's getting us ready for what to expect at university.
Passionate teacher but a little too into what he's teaching. Princeton education = teaching at Lisgar? Tough essay marker too. Likes to ask questions to people who look like they're asleep.
He is enthusiastic and genuinely enjoys both learning and teaching, but his assignments can get a little ridiculous. How much you enjoy his classes depends on how involved you are with the material. If you listen and participate (and take notes!) you'll do fine. If you sleep with your eyes open, not so much. He doesn't give tests often, but as a result they are rather... "comprehensive", as he puts it. You either like him or you don't.
This man is the single Greatest teacher i have had at Lisgar, he continues to be a bastion of my strength everyday. When i am feeling down he asks me "good morning" when no one else will. he refuses to turn on the neon lights because he cares for my eyesight. Bias some of you call him, i see no Bias i see a man (from Princeton) that is able to Take neither sides in a debate. Truly a God among Men.
Enthusiastic when teaching, informative and knows his stuff. Bias in most topics discussed, tries to pose them on you when you try and make a point. Good morning/afternoon thing is very annoying. Needs to give students a break with assignments, they're just one after another =( And the magic box needs to go, no one feels the vibe. (He needs a catscan)
The great thing about McCabe is that he's geniunely interested in learning - great energy. The bad thing is you have to sit through that every day.
for assignments guys, FOLLOW INSRUCTIONS and you will get very good marks...
A very biased teacher. I enjoy his discussions but his teaching is poor.
I really like Mr. McCabe. He's thoughtful and really wants his students to do well.
How many teachers do you know who take a personal interest in students and genuinely love to share knowledge? He's infectious! Give him a break. He's great.
Mr. McCabe is passionate about teaching - something you rarely see these days. Thanks!
Doesn't explain enough in his assignments, then takes marks off for not doing things that he didn't say you had to. And the Magic Box needs to retire.
MOST AMAZING TEACHER EVER...I'd PAY to have a teacher like him again...two years of sheer intellectual stimulus...- Keep it up...VS
A chill teacher for discussions and just basic knowledge. But for serious students, he's way too vague- gets frusterating
I was just informed by insiders that the original magic box HAS BEEN FOUND! That is it!! I’m hijacking the magic box(s), and taking it hostage. I already have a photo to paste on the Social Science room! You’ll receive it peace by peace. Mhua
he's a terrible teacher. and he's always talking about Mike Hawk, too. just awful.
Great teacher, i don't know why people hate him? Great History teacher, give him a break :-)
I think the number of replies and low numbers speak for themselves.
Oh common guys, give him a chance.....he's not that bad....
i think hes a chiller.seems to actually have an interest.let him find his feet.
OK class.... I have an idea in my head... what am I thinking? 20 Questions.
HE DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHAT HE WANTS IN HIS ASSIGNMENTS. HE JUST GIVES THE ASSIGNMEN
he's like a child wandering into the middle of a movie (doesn't have a clue).
maybe he could make better assignments if he knew the curiculum
Foolish marking, often makes incoherent rabble. Needs to g.a.d.
At least he provided me with countless hours of laughter...
He wastes class time by picking out students and yelling at them, then keeps us
He's so funny! I'll bet he says So what's goin' on in the world today everyday
