He made my son cry. Due to his harsh attitude and the pressure in the class, my son cried every night because he knew that he had to face Mr. Lavold the next day. The teacher underestimated my son, and he made my son feel worthless. Every child deserves the encouragement to learn; the pushing strategy only undermines the child's abilities. Although I am sure that Mr. Lavold is a very good person and an excellent history teacher, he should not rank students based on their ability to learn.

Mr.Lavold is by far one of the best teachers I ever had. To be honest we had a really outgoing class that loved to provide their perspectives but Lavold helped make the class more of a fun debate class than a boring history class. I looked forward to going to his class and so did my friends. HAVE HIM AS A TEACHER IF U CAN.

Apart from the fact that the German citizens didn't know about the Holocaust, which got me grounded for two weeks when I relayed that information onto my parents, Mr. Lavold didn't really teach me anything important.

He's a great teacher. Sometimes strict but can be fun. His stories are the funnest. I've had an enjoyable time in his class. He does pick on people a lot, but most times, its mostly just him talking. Which is good, most people don't like talking out loud.

He talks way too much. His class is so boring, and he picks on everyone. He is just too much for high school, and should think of becoming a university professor.
He's informative and everything, but something about his class made me cringe.

He does off on tangents, cough cough French revolution cough. But He's very through in his information and so he makes essays easier to write I found because there were so many examples. Also it's easier to get away with not reading the text book like in other social classes. I thought he could have give us more time for the major projects in grade 11 in the IB classes. But other than that great guy, easy to understand and enjoyable classes

Made History 30 IB my favorite class - the discussions were always intense and extremely engaging. Assignments and debate topics were well thought out and interesting. Very passionate and went above and beyond the expectations of a teacher. Not an easy marker, however, very fair. He gives lots of chances and hints and details on what he wants on tests. Gives lots of insight for politics and human nature in general. 10/10 would recommend.

Mr. Lavold is a passionate social teacher who does a great job at engaging his students in both past & current political issues. He has a diverse approach to teaching, and is VERY knowledgeable and eager to educate. Although I ADORE his classes, I do find that he has much difficulty teaching the curriculum in a timely fashion as he is often on a tangent, and due to this he rarely has quiz's, tests or exams and when they do occur they are VERY difficult. You'll learn more, but have a lower grade.

Mr. Lavold's SO chill. The first semester was so useless LOOL cuz all we did was talk about cool stuff (with little relation to social) but he's really easygoing and straightforward. It's pretty easy to do well in his class, but people just don't choose to put in the little effort required. :P

His stories are the best. I laughed my head off. However, his classes are sometimes a little boring. His slides are really simple, so you have to pay attention and take notes on what he says, probably prepare you for university. Have a good attendance, study once in a while, and you will be fine on exams.
