I took his Intro to Karate class in 1982, then later took his Self Defense course before joining the Dawson Karate Club, and continued studying martial arts for decades afterwards. I consider him a man of great honor, and owe him much for how I turned out. I wish his all the best in his well deserved retirement - he was my greatest teacher during my years at Dawson.

Sensei Donivan taught me my first martial art move in1990 at Dawson College. 17 years and five styles later he is still the best teacher for me at that time. Imposing? Imagine him at 30. From China

if you hate gym class and don't actually want to be very physical then choose Donivan. For the first half of the semester all you do is listen to him talk, though he's not really saying much.

Donivan was a pretty good teacher when I had him (Karate-104). He can be pretty quirky, and is big on discipline. I didn't mind cleaning the floor. He's a cool guy though. Sometimes he acts like he expects you to read his mind, which can get uncomfortable. I'm in his Karate club and have been there for four semesters so far (including the summer semester). In the end, I have much respect for this man.

He's a real character...to say the least. Not that it's a bad thing through. He's kind of like one of those gym teachers in movies from the 50's. But if you take him with a grain of salt, then he's really funny. Also, his class is good.
