One of my favourite science teachers that I've ever had. His notes are extremely clear and concise and he explains everything super well. He is also really good about relating the class to his students as well as offering up amazing opportunities for his students who want to go further in biology. I would recommend him to literally anyone, he's amazing.
probably the best teacher i've had in awhile, everything he explains is crystal clear and he is a very personable and interesting teacher to have
Great teacher. Definitely explains better and is overall one of the best science teachers.
Mr. Shieh was my teacher for Skills back in grade 8. The one and most important key aspect of succeeding in his class is staying on task, fulfilling your responsibility as a student and be warm and cheerful when necessary. He marks you pretty easily once you get the hang of him and has a good impression on you. Would totally recommend him. Mr. Shieh, I hope you see my review.
He's a really responsible teacher and is one of the fair ones. I love how he makes spontaneous jokes but i hate that he has detention when you're late or absent.
I had him in synergy 9 for science, and then when i went into the IB program (grade 11), I was really considering bio just because i loved his class so much. A little hard tests (worked hard to get an A), but who cares, you have fun and you do learn a lot. excellent teacher and awesome personality. strict/fair but wonderful personality.
synergy science is sooo hard with him. I guess it's just synergy but still it's really hard. Science is like the hardest synergy subject. Just try your best if you have him, best of luck.
long tests; write fast good notes; keep them listen during class and review got to try in order to get good grades but not impossible may skip one or two things or expect you to know things he didnt teach otherwise fun guy; fun class <3
Great personality, always willing to help students. His tests are hard (no doubt about that) but not impossible... if you study hard enough you can ace his course (talking about 95% ). Awesome guy to chill out with.
Eh...I don't care much for his notes, he can get really vague at times. May omit stuff, don't tell us details on what he expects in a lab, etc. But overall all right, very chill.
LOL HIS JEOPARDY GAMES. Mr. Shieh's a really nice and helpful teacher. Sure, his tests can be a bit long, but hey, if you study well enough, you'll earn a fairly decent mark. :)
I dominated all the jeapordy questions. Great teacher, but if you want 90 you will need to study to prove it. I got ~95
Bio12 was one of my favorite classes with Shieh! Not an easy teacher, but you'll do well if you study. Has a good sense of humor, makes large tests.
Mr Shieh is the kind of teacher that turns one page worth of notes into a 5 page "quiz" out of 85.
Honestly one of the "fair" teachers of IB. He's helpful all the time and he REALLY does prepare you for the exam.
Really nice teacher. Although his tests can be long, as long as you work hard, you will get good grades. One of my fav. teachers from highschool.
Very fun teacher. Good to joke around with! Not easy at all. His materials are very challenging but not impossible. When I entered grade 12, I actually appreciated Mr Shieh more, because the stuff he taught us so solidly in grade 10 was what we were reviewing in grade 10, with extra details we already covered. Great teacher, with a great sense of humor.
Glad to have Mr.Shieh for bio even though just for a year.
Very hellpful to past MY class :) hi MR. Shieh. Grade 8 was fun.
Had Mr.Shieh for Bio12 in 2003...Brilliant and approachable teacher and a great badminton coach! His classes can be challenging but also very rewarding since you learn so much.
He's very easy to talk to, which is great for a teacher. He's also very helpful when you need the help.
Here's a tip to everyone when it comes to his tests: Write VERY fast because he has a LOT of questions. He's also rather tough, but he is a great teacher. If you ever have questions, he'll answer them and help you until you understand.
He's a good teacher but he expects wayyyy too much from his non-IB students. He provides helpful notes but he makes all his students study his way, which is not very helpful or time efficient like the studybook or cheatsheet. Why is the cheatsheet called a "cheatsheet" when we can't use it during his hard tests???
arguably one of the best teachers in SWC's science department. detailed, easy-to-study notes, always willing to put in extra time outside of school hours to explain things, willing to let you use his classroom for ridiculous reasons, his diagrams are a bit lacking but i found that they're pretty good if you actually listen to his explanations. a picky marker, especially for tests. requires you to know and understand all the concepts he teaches but at the same time he does his best to make sure you DO get it
i actually understand science in his class....wow....
The ONLY teacher I had during my years at Churchill that TEACHES. Gives soo much better notes, clear on tests, homework...
definitely one of the best teachers at SWC...he actually teaches! well planned out lessons, clear notes, and useful worksheets. and much as we hate to admit it, the studybooks and cheatsheets really do help with cramming before a big test. always there for extra help before tests and quizzes. very fair...even if he hates your guts, he'll still give you the help and marks that you deserve. enjoy the class, dont complain too much about the hw, and walk into class with a can of air freshener =)
Clear, understandable notes. Funny teacher. Hard tests/exams. Kinda picky.
Very organized, plans lessons very well. Fairly good notes also. Read the text book for a better grade. He has after school sessions when you need help. A very enjoyable teacher.
What's with all the good reviews? He doesn't know what he's talking about! He's not funny, or interesting, he is a dull, dull man who is easily intimidated by his students, and doesn't TEACH merely recopies endless notes onto overhead transparencies. He turned my favourite subject (Bio) into a dull and menial course. I HATE HIS ABREVIATIONS OR SHOULD I SAY "ABREVS" His biggest skill is his colour-coordinated-underlining key word system.
Mr. Shieh just made my life easier when it comes to bio.. had him for bio 11 and now.. 12.. BEST.. BEST NOTES.. FUNNY JOKES.. GIGGLYSS..AWESOME!!!!
pretty awesome teachers. had him for 3 years in a row so i would know. him and his so called "thinking questions". have you know your stuff though. like that POP QUIZ that was 60 marks. oh boy.
He's really cool but I HATE STUDY BOOKS. The multiple choice question on his tests are usually quite easy (I usually get 90% or more) but his writing sections are always really hard (I usually get around 60%).
He's a pretty cool guy but his tests are pretty hard
he's pretty nice and all but can be a bit harsh with test and etc..but i love the way he teaches and everything..really learned the stuff*...hehe
REALLY nice!! Because of him, science has become my favourite subject. He's a cool teacher!
Brillant notes Mr.Shieh! Although I graduated years ago, his teaching style has a positive effect on his students. He's one of many teachers who inspired me to become a teacher! :)
a hard teacher, but is really friendly and nice, and i actually learned a lot from his classes and notes
Awesome teacher, prepared me well for the provincials. Thank god for his review session, totally made me understand something i didnt before
This guy prepares you well for the biology provincial. I understood and learned so much from his biology review sessions. You are a life saver. If I had a second chance to rate you, I would give you a high B instead of a C+. :)
His lessons are well planned/thought out. His notes are easily understandable and he makes Biology interesting. Thumbs up.
He makes science very fun. He is a very careful marker. He looks at every question on your study book.
He is hard, but a very nice teacher, teachs well and you learn alot
Very helpful teacher. Last year when I didn't know how to use a lock, I asked him...and he helped me ^_^ I am very greatful. Alot of notes...good teach. Funny.
mr shieh is realli kool.. yep.. a great and fun teacher.. but realli hard tho.. but itz oki!
mr. shieh.. try making a test out below 100 once in a while...
MR SHIEH IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE THIS YEAR!!! even though i dont like the study book entries...it's feb, and i still havent done any from december...-_-
he is very difficult but very good at teaching..you will learn alot from him..and super nice dude.
Fun fun fun....don't like studybooks...but...it really helps.
well he's not really hard.. but I just don't like doing study books.. even though it'll help me.. nice teacher I guess..
i like him as a teacher, he's funni and nice, i don't like the study books very much...
Great teacher and a great guy. Prepares you well for school after swc. Extrememly organized. One of a kind, thank you Jean Luc =)
Great Guy. Funny man. He's the only reason why i stayed in Bio12. Is that a good thing? Probably not but hey, he still rules in my book.
He's a good clear teacher, very fair, what you put in is what you get. He'll always help you too and pretty amusing.
teaches well! very helpful and prepares you for prov.exam! overall nice teacher to have
very good. not bad. bio is easy anyway. so, it's good. SK
One of my fav teachers when i was in Churchill, his tests are hard ..but not bad
helpful. good notes and assignments. Tests OK. reasonable marker. Friendly.
Lol...Excellent teacher...fun...fun 2 make fun of =)
nice teacher...lots of notes...extremely hard tests...hard marker...cool guy
he's a great teacher, but his tests are sooo hard!!...
What a great teacher. Im not even doing that well (hard tests) but hes great
Lots of notes, but very useful. An organized teacher.
very good teacher,,,very good notes, very hard marker
Great teacher! If only I am a genius! There can be some improvements Mr.Shieh!
