I haven't been his student for many years now, but if you are lucky enough to get him as your teacher - or better yet, as he was mine, your mentor - he will be undoubtably one of the best, most influential, and maybe just a bit controversial, things to ever shape your life... Mr. Maa, if ever I win an Oscar, or more appropriately, a Tony, the dedication goes straight to you!
extremely terrible teacher and person in general. he didn't teach a single lesson for the whole year. every class consisted of him ranting about his opinions on extremely controversial issues and telling people off if they questioned him or didn't share the same opinions. even though he would ask people to participate in discussion or share their work, he would straight up insult them in front of the whole class. he does not understand constructive criticism and will tell you your work is awful
There are mixed feelings with this teacher depending on what type of person you are (I mean no offense to anyone). I had him last year and let me just say, it was an awful time. We did nothing in class/he didn't care, heck this year he apparently wanted kids to finish a book in a couple of days. He doesn't mark you absent so skip all you want, he'll probably pass you anyway. Last year there was a lot of shouting in one class, he even made students cry. If you want to learn, switch out ASAP.
Made me love Lord of the Flies by single handedly acting out the entire book.
He's not everyone's cup of tea, but he can be a fantastic literary mentor so long as you work hard and treat him with respect. That being said, he is too capricious to teach a compulsory class. Maybe 'Shop' or 'Chinese' if they existed-
Mr Maa is a waste of a teacher. I don't like him at all. His class is useless and we never do anything. He lets people leave whenever they want and doesn't care if we don't come to class. He shouldn't be teaching.
He is very different than any other teacher I've ever had, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Very different, does things his way, and doesn't hold back his opinions or thoughts (which isn't always a good thing, but also, can be a great thing).
i'm fairly certain he's a sociopath or something. worst class i had, all through highschool.
This man shouldn't be allowed near a school. He is the epitomy of everything that is wrong with the education system.
He does the ridiculous stuff that I'd joke about doing if I were a teacher. But that's why I wouldn't make a good teacher. This guy shouldn't teach.
Brilliant man and a great mentor but shouldn't be taken too seriously.
clearly, looking at these ratings, he is either hated or loved. he was a terrible teacher and i learned nothing. on the other hand he was awesome to talk to.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Puts down students, tells them their opinions are wrong, unprofessional.
the man is insane! i'm glad he works in the library now...
I have mixed opinions of mr. maa. Although he is indeed intellegent, i find him to be pretty unreasonable at times and i don't know what he wants as a teacher. That being said he also has very high standards. bad combo. Most either love him or hate him, i'm on the fence.
He taught me a new word, "Salacious" LOL! I use it everywhere :) A lot of people think he's hard, and he is. But he just wants us to be at our best :)
Mr. Maa is an okay teacher he's funny when trying to inspire us but when it comes to the assignments he seems to everyone to write like him. His expectations are too high. It seems that he doesn't think that there are actually people that struggle with English.
I see both sides, he is smart and funny, and he also does know quality when he sees it. However, he is cruel and lazy without nearly as much intelligence as he believes. He cannot teach this way, it's unfair to his students, especially the ones who actually struggle with english.
thanks mr maa your my favourite teacher you helped me out alot-ziggy
you're not unconventional. you're just the same as every other miserable person. if you don't like people, don't work in a school
Funny guy and changles you to think on so many different levels but I do quesation his teaching methods at time.
maybe he has a sense of arrogance. but beyond it is a serious love of life, english, and a drive to make us do our best. i had ms clark and then mr gordon, and having mr maa is like heaven. he challenges students, calls dickens "fluff", and i think hes awesome.
Awsome teacher, I learnt more in a month with maa then a year with a lot of other teachers and hes totally hilarious to so all you nay sayers can SHOVE IT
"Mr. Maa, is that Bailey's in your water bottle?" You are hilarious and such a good teacher! You always give us creative writing projects, which are so much fun, and you're hilarious [ yes, I said it twice, wanna fight about it? XD]. -X
Mr. Maa is easily the best teacher in Rosedale. He challenged me and I hate him for not teaching grd 11... For all of you people who cry about his teaching methods, you probably are too slow to pick up on his hints. He's hilarious also which gets brownie points
Mr. Maa has to be my favourite teacher of all time he's so funny and extremely smart he passed me so i'm pleased but yeah the funniest person i've ever met i hope to run into him in the mental institution
Most people love him or hate him, but I just can't decide...he's difficult to learn from sometimes, likes feeling superior and once turned off the lights in our class, left the room and told us to establish a society...and yet I think he's one of my best teachers. What a quandry.
he's an average teacher. sometimes he's just really weird tho, and I hate how we always have to write essays.
strange but cool... I don't have him for a teacher but i'm sure he's better than gordon..
OMG MR. MA IS SOOOOOO FUNNY!! ok i love him! hes really tuff tho and i think im failing his calss
k, he's not that bad...I actually really like him...but then again I'm a freak...I love writing essays..
mr maa is cool he builds pyramids with his teaching supplies and has just found his long lost daughter.lol
at first he was as awsome as everyone says but lately hes been uptight and mean.
he lets us play bopit and football and sing in his class.while someone was presenting something he started making a tower of binders and stuff on his desk.
he was great, we talked about really cool things in his class. and he tought use fun things. he also likes anime and well he let use his room to watch movies
Mr. Maa was the best guy ever. He never taught anything, he'd just come in with this little post-it note thing and be like, "I saw a movie yesterday, let's discuss that..." He gave me an 80 percent mark and I didn't hand ANYTHING in. God Bless h
Very smooth, erratic, but smooth. i hope the bureaucrats rnt firing him*shakes fist at authority*hes unorthodox, but whens that ever a bad thing if its engaging
very cool ghost dog. suggested that we jump out the window is prone to jumping on desks and playing tricks on students but he knows what he is talking about.
I had him last year. He says, this year, that it doesn't matter that my english mark is dropping in spite of my efforts, that what matters is that I have talent, and I'm gonna make it.
