Had him this year and the last and sure he can definitely have his moments and his talks drag on for way too long but all in all he gets the job done as a teacher and knows what he's talking about for the most part. dont go to him for advice on how to play certain songs because he'll do it by ear and usually isnt 100% right. when in doubt, look at guitar chords regardless of instrument. Rock school isnt really the hardest course, chill in the computer lab, learn you're songs at home and you good
I really like the idea of the Rock School Program, but Steve is not an ideal teacher for the program at all. Although he is a musician himself, he is very close minded and makes students feel bad about their choice in music and capability when it comes to playing an instrument. I hardly ever looked forward to going to his class when it was the class I should have looked most forward to. I constantly felt bad about my musical ability and it made me feel like never playing my instruments.
He's obviously an extremely Conor rant teacher; just look at his Juno.
He's a great teacher, but he also kind of sucks. Constantly talks about how awesome he is, and his old band and gigs and stuff, earning him the nickname "Juno Award winning Steve Sainas". Favors some students over others in rock school, and completely ignores other students. He also once gave a student a lecture on how their life and health would improve with weight loss without the student asking for it. Basically low key bullied them about their weight.
kind of narcissistic. i mean i could count on both hands the amount of time he wastes just going on and on about how great his band is and how he has a gig coming up and all these stories about himself. he clearly favors older students over younger ones too.
He was my teacher for four years, best teacher ever! Our class ha a lot of great players and people who never picked up an instrument before. By the end of it we all put on a totally awesome show!!
Had him for two years, one of my best teachers ever!
He's pretty helpful. He has helped me and some of my friends with our awesome band.
If you miss class for any reason whatsoever, you will be tempted to never go back out of fear of what Sainas will say/do to you. He is one of the few teachers ive ever had whom i feel actually tries to make my day feel like S*it. He knows what he's doing, but he spends too much time talking about how great him and his band is/was. He doesnt really get much across accept for how many western music awards his blues band has been nominated for. Not really a great teacher in my eyes
Sainas has his moments when you may wanna run away and think of devious ways to egg his house, but he's a really good guy with a good heart and all he wants to do help others succeed. Everyone plays favourites, he's only human and he makes mistakes, but unlike most teachers, he truly is there to help.
You need to stay on his good side just to tolerate him. If you're on his bad side, he will rip your head off and eat soup out of it, with a side of [YOUR NAME]'s dignity.
never ever ever get on his bad side, or he will make you class soooo bad. other then that, hes alright.
he thinks to highly of himself and talks about how good he is instead of doing real teaching.
I don't particularly like him. I think he plays favorites a lot. I also think he's rather odd when it comes to marking.
