I took his RM class and managed to get a decent mark. He knows his stuff and wants his students to succeed, but does not explain the assignments clearly. Lectures are very boring, but he always ends class early. The test was very easy, impossible to fail as it is all common sense. Assignments due every week or so, but he will give extensions if he sees that the class is behind.
Had Roger Maclean for RM, did not enjoy the class at all. The class is kind of all over the place so I was just very confused the whole semester as to where exactly this class is headed to. Although, he is very flexible with deadlines but you kind of have to teach yourself since he isnt very helpful at all and hard to approach. I would imagine that RM isnt his best topic to teach though, he may be a better teacher in other classes.
I took his Environmental Sociology Green Revolution Game for my complementary class this semester. Basically, it's one period lectures and one period games. The lectures were really fun and interesting and the games were just a chance to relax and kind of do nothing. He gives very few of assignments and his tests are all take homes, so it's pretty easy to get good. He's also the nicest teacher I know, so if there's anything you didn't understand, go see him after class or during office hours.
Very easy class. He gives you the powerpoints of his lectures which are not that boring. He helps you a lot during lab class and answers your questions. There is one assignment almost every week but the marks get bumped up as you progress with your term research article(little assignments put together to final projects). Plus he lets you resubmit them and hand them in a week late. He grades fairly. You should take him for research methods.
Roger is a solid ISS prof. We have two orals but you do them in groups (you choose) so, you can just give each other 100% if you're friends (each oral is 5% so it's a free 10% right there). Lectures never go past 2 hours. You don't actually conduct a study, you just write a Lit Review & Methodology.
His classes are super boring, but super easy.
He has a re-submission policy, so as long as you put the effort in, you will do extremely well. I finished the class with a 98, and had no problems.
I had Roger for RM. He is definitely a controversial teacher because he's a hard grader and is picky about his assignments. However, he prepares you for university and if you go talk to him, he will really take the time to help you in your assignments and will take interest in you as a student. I will definitely take him for ISS and I recommend him, especially if you are someone who is autonomous and doesn't mind working and learning independently. However, his lectures are incredibly boring!
Undoubtedly the most approachable, kindest and effective teacher at John Abbott. Not only does he encourage independent thought but is capable of reducing knowledge to its simplest components and relating theories, principles and concepts to practical application. He was able to use humour and dynamic enthusiasm while still maintaining his professionalism. With his sincere desire to teach, he’s exceptional devotion to helping each student is clearly evident.Simply an amazing person and teacher.
Had him for RM. Learned a crazy amount of stuff and he really prepares you for University. Harsh grader and leaves a lot of comments on your work but he lets you redo all your assignments. Creates a lot of work for himself but really cares about the students who want to put in the effort. That being said, you gotta work in his class.
Funny teacher and very approachable, i took his environmental game class and it was fun there isn't much to do but Roger makes the class impossible to not want to attend :)
Take him for intro to sociology if you have to. He's incredibly nice and helpful. The class is chill, half game days and half lectures. The assignments are easy but the exams are difficult. Overall a fun class and you'll learn stuff without trying too hard.
Hes a good teacher, take him for Intro to Sociology if you have to. Half the clases are lectures the other half is a game, doesnt take attendence. Exams are tough, assignments are easy, Only time you will ever use the book is for the assignments or exam
I took Roger for sociology this semester. In class, we spend one day listening to a lecture and another day playing a game that's basically a model society. The work in class is very chill, though the lectures can sometimes be a little dry. The assignments can be somewhat confusing at times, but the difficulty faced in these assignments is made up for by the sociology game played once a week.
He is awesome!!! He let's you redo some assignments, so even if you fail the first time, you can still redo it and get a 90. He isn't easy, I'll tell you that, but he helps A LOTm seriously. Take him, best rm and ISS teacher ever!!!!!!!
I had rm with roger! I love him! He's the best teacher by far at abbott. If you put effort into his class and try to do well you'll for sure end up with an amazing grade! He lets you ready all the assignments until you get 100%. He's such a good teacher and I learnt so much from him! He's also really nice and if you have any questions to ask him about your project he definitely does not hesitate to help!
At first he's very intimidating but he will prepare you for university and pretty much any future event that happens in your life. So if you can stick it out it's worth while
Roger is very nice and helpfull. He prepares you well for university. he might be a bit scary at the begining but he makes you realize that school and university is serious!
Roger, is great teacher. Had him for ethnic and sociocultural issues, he extened the deadlines for everything we did. Definatly recomend roger.
I love Roger! he's super nice, i had him for RM. Lot of work but you get to redo every single project or assignment, so you can potentially end up with very high marks. His tests are sometimes a bit far fetched though...
Great teacher, had him for Enviromental sociology and loved the class. Classes are fun, you play games and tests are take-homes. Hes a really gooc guy and down to earth. Take Him!
most negative person i have ever met.he will make you feel as though you arent going anywhere after abbott. fun class; if you ignore the fact that he thinks youre going nowhere because you cant build a well. most general outline for projects, you wont even know if you did it right.
Roger was a great teacher and his class was extremely interesting! i wasn't interested in sociology but he made me appreciate it and he made me want to learn more about it. his class was NEVER boring! he has so much information to share. you must take him,
VERY interesting class. I found that although the material was sometimes deadly boring, he managed to make it interesting. His assignments can be a bit tough, but he will always let you improve your grade. Cool guy, take his class if you can.
awsome teacher!!! most teachers go the "learn the notes by heart" method but he doesnt!!!u actually have to understand wut ur doing and how to apply it! i learned soooo much in his class and not only about RM but many other things! he always keeps the class interesting by adding his lil anecdotes and personal life events!!TAKE HIM!!
Roger is the best teacher I ever had, and believe me, I had a lot! He is an awesome person that's willing to help you at anything, and he is a fabulous teacher. I learned the most in his classes.
He is amazing!!! HE lets u redo whatever you want, is always willing to help, and keeps the classes short, and i mean really short! Take him if u get the chance
It took a while for him to grow on me, but in the end I realized he bends over backward to help his students and is an amazing person and teacher. I did hate him for a while though
THE BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD! TOTALLY AWESOME!VERY HELPFULL AND FAIR MARKER. HE IS THE TEACHER AT JAC THAT EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE IF GET A CHANCE! ALSO, HE'S THE COOLEST MEXICAN DAD!
Excellent teacher. Works hard with the students for them to understand. If only all teachers were like him.
I am the worst student in the history of Abbott and i passed. I worked a bit
not really easy if you don't want to do work. he is very picky with what he wantsbut you can always redo assignments
"Brownosing never hurts" he told me that. Great teacher+very nice, but likes to deduct.02 marks to be a pain to those who are, in his words:Brats.
ALWAYS on hanf to help students with assignments. However, he is also a university prof. and it seems he corrects things as if we were in university
A great teacher. Wants his students to do as well as they can. doesn't give in class exams but watch out for his take homes!
Roger if you read this you were a great teacher and you made me want to come to class don't think i ever skipped!! Great Teacher
Works really hard for his students. RM/IA take a lot of work but he will help you out wherever possible. Not always clear what he wants from the assignments.
Assignments don't seem to make any sense. The simple ones worth only 5% take days to do. You'll get a good mark but RM is just the worst class anyone can take
Amazing teacher. one of the best at Abbott! As long as you attend class and participate, Roger will bend over backwards to make sure that you pass.
Handed every assignment in late, didn't study for tests... Still got 90!!! Huzzah! (did attend every lab and missed only 4 Qm lectures)
The best teacher I ever had!! He is really helpful and he cares about his students. If you can get him, take him. You wont regret it!!
Very nice teacher, understanding, interesting, funny, and friendly. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
ROGER MACLEAN IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER.. INTERESTING AND HELPFUL AT THE SAME TIME.. ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS.. TAKE HIM IF YOU GET THE CHANCE
Super nice, makes class interesting and the easiest QM can be. Take him and you won't be disappointed.
He always gives students a chance to improve. Will always lend a helping hand.
Nicest teacher ever, if you respect him, he'll respect you
