A good teacher. Knows history. Assignments are just right. Not too hard, not too easy. Tests are fair.
The person who posted below this one sounds like the whiner Jeremy Brind the C Block Comparative Civilization class. I was a student in the same class. Jeremy skipped about 1/3 of the classes and got mad because he got a low mark. The only reason we watched Disney Hercules is because the students pushed him to show it. If anything, Waterlander was caving in to the students, so fault him on that if you want. The videos all met the course material. I learned a lot. Great teacher!
Paul isn't a competent teacher. The man dumbs down everything he teaches, spreads popular misconceptions, markets his political views to his students, and, above all, fails to actually teach anything. Rather than teach, he shows youtube videos, or 300, or Disney's Hercules. He's inept, ignorant of his subject, and teaches in so facile and undidactic a manner that it's safe to say that anyone who sets foot in one of his classes will emerge dumber than they were before.
I don't understand the criticism the previous poster has with Waterlander. You think Hitler was GOOD because he helped the German economy? Hitler destroyed Germany. The economy grew because Hitler was getting ready for a WAR. That does not make sense. Every teacher has some bias. At least Waterlander tells us his right up front. He has always offered students to give their own opinions. You don't have to agree.
I really liked having him as a teacher. Very passionate. However, extremely left wing. When we were taught the pros and cons of each wing of government, I was taught no pro's of being a conservative, only cons. And only pro's of liberal and NDP with no negatives. Also while we covered WWII, he neglected to mention that Hitler fixed the German economy. He really just didn't like hitler. Also apparently globalization is bad and if you don't agree with that, you're wrong.
He changed my views and feelings towards Social Studies. One of the best hs teachers I've ever had.
Waterlander is an excellent history teacher. Mixes it up with book, PowerPoint and video clips. Tests are fair if you do the work.
Waterlander rocks! Best history teacher ever!
Waterlander is a great teacher. Really knows his stuff. Marks fair. Does not pile on the homework because you mostly work in class. Really likes history and tells good stories, shows good video clips and helps you if you can't get something. I learned a lot about Canada. Good stuff!
Mr. Waterlander was a phenomenal teacher when I was in his class. I took FN12 the first year it was taught, and I don't regret it for a second. Every minute in his class, is knowledge you would have never searched out on your own, and I'm SO glad I had the opportunity to meet him and be in his class!
Mr. Waterlander was a really good teacher. Let us watch alot of movies, he was easy to understand, and I loved hearing all his stores!
You kind of have to agree with his opinions to get a good grade.
on eof the greatest teacher iv ever had he helped me embrace my first nations background and gave me so much pride in my self the world would be a better place if he could teach every one
He is very opinionated. If you don't like his opinion then I notice that students don't like him. But he's a nice man and a good teacher.
He is one of the only teachers who believes there's more to learning than being in class and reading textbooks. He encouraged me to go out and make a difference. Students need to know about politics!
Mr. Waterlander is the best! I had him for soc 10 and fns 12. He always shows movies and doesn't give out homework...WATERLANDER YOU ROCK!
Is too opinionated for me. Was bored to death. Oh and information sometimes questionable.
hes alright i guess. i disagreed a lot with him and he doesnt really give you the time of day to back up ur points.
he's awesome. he teaches you lots of things that you wont find in history books, tells you to watch good movies and lisen to good music and marks you for it.
hes an awesome teacher u learn alot from him and hes not tough hes just a good teacher
I had Mr. Waterlander 2 years ago. I learned lots about how the world works, if you complain about bad marks, it's your own fault. Do the work, he's fair!
I went to all his classes and did all of my work and he still screwed me out of an A. I had 85.4 and he wouldn't bump me up. Needs to keep his views to himself.
Mr. Waterlander's a cool guy, a very opinionated but very good teacher.
Mr. Waterlander knows his stuff. He will teach you about history and why it's important. Lots of class discussion, which I enjoyed.
Awesome teacher, fair marker, tries to make history more than names and dates. Opened up my eyes on First Nations issues & makes you want to go out and vote
Mr. Waterlander teaches politics because it's part of the class! Duh! He teaches politics in an interesting way. The only adult in my life who actually does
Students who dis Mr. Waterlander for being "tough" either skip too much or don't work hard enough. He is the most fair teacher I've had!
If he kept his politic out of the classroom alot more could have been done. Otherwise a good guy, but not much of an effective teacher.
Good teacher. Makes you read a lot though. It was hard for me. I can't read and more then a page of ANYTHING before falling asleep... I feel unclean.
he seems to wicked a guy to be a teacher an hes one of the onl guys i know that knows what he thinks about every thing
Best Socials teacher I've had, makes the class interesting.
Mr. Waterlander is a fair teacher. He tries to make you see why history is important. He also teaches stuff not found in history books.
Mr. Waterlander is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is thourough, and makes sure we are too. He is fun, and challenges us.
