Best teacher I could ever have. So funny, knowledgeable and helpful. Always interacts with students and makes class enjoyable
I wanted to say something original but then I read all the other comments. I agree. Best teacher ever. At first I was pissed because he would always say "I won't help you with a blank piece of paper" and he made me try to start things myself. Once I did I learned more and more. Now I am helping other kids in the class. I have a LOT of respect for him. Sometimes I think he is wasting his time teaching high school. He rocks.
Best teacher ever. Period. Amazingly patient and helpful. He will make you work and you will not like it at first but then you will see that you can do it. Gave me the confidence I needed to not only pass but to excel. Now in university and doing well thanks to the work ethic he taught me. GREAT teacher.
Not sure about this rating system. He wasn't "easy" but if I give him less than 5 stars it looks bad. He made me work harder than I ever had before. I always coasted through math and got a B. I got a B on my first test with him and he took me aside and ripped me a new one because I was lazy. I had no idea. He was right. I got mad and thought "I will show him" so worked hard and got an A on my second one and he just smiled....Damn, he tricked me into being better. GREAT teacher.
He is hands down one of the best teachers out there! He is super intelligent and knowledgeable, relatable, makes an effort to engage with students and as long as he can see that you care and are trying he will never fail you. He can teach the high level math courses to smart students in a detailed way and at the same time teach the lower level math courses to students who are really struggling with the subject. Just a great guy all around. Also has great taste in music!
I had a terrible experience with my previous pre calc teacher&was skeptical about other ones. After being in his class, I'm glad I took it. He actually has a degree in mathematics, unlike other math teachers in this school, so he knows how to explain a very confusing subject even to people who struggle with math. I can tell he genuinely wants his students to do well(when they are making an effort to do well). Be ready for lots of homework&exams. It's all worth it in the end though.
Ending my high school life now, and hating that I have to say goodbye to Mr. Finnigan. He has made school fun and interesting. I have enjoyed him and how much he cares about his students.
I went through his class and got so frustrated because he wouldn't help me. I would ask what the answer was and he would say "what do you think it is?" Now I am in university and I realize he is the best teacher I ever had. He taught me to think. He taught me to grow. A great teacher....but his jokes are REALLY lame.
A guy who is childish as his students, if not more. But he's a great teacher, makes you feel like u actually know something. I miss his class a lot and my friends always find this so questionable because I said I hate him so many times during his course.... lol..
But he's a great teacher, and if YOU show him that you want to learn, he will help you to the best of his abilities. Come in at lunch to ask questions, if not just to eat lunch there. He'll appreciate it.
Honestly there are many students who enjoyed taking Mr. Finnigan's class because he can become like a student himself. He tells these jokes (some of which are questionable) I felt as if he got away with a lot of stuff because he has seniority at the school. I didn't enjoy how he got distracted himself and didn't focus on math entirely. He would discuss irrelevant things and make us figure everything out which is ok but not always. I would have enjoyed a teacher who kept his opinions to himself.
My husband and I have had the honour of having Mr. Finnigan teach our children. He has inspired them to not only do well in school but to extend their thinking and perspective on the world through his travel club. They have gone through a full education from this man and we could not be happier with his influence on them. They were all able to get into his class at some point and they all agree he had a profound impact on their life. We are thrilled to have had his influence in our family.
All my kids had him as a teacher. I only wish I had him when I was in high school, I am sure I would have changed my professional goals as a result, as my kids have done. He has inspired my children to reach out and extend their thinking, encouraged them to reach for lofty goals and caused them to believe in themselves. A wonderful teacher.
I have always done well in math until I got to his class. Then my grades sunk. I realized later I never knew anything. I learned more in his class in three months than I did in three years. My grades went up but so did my knowledge. I am now in University and it is so easy thanks to his class
After two months into post secondary.... I asked my son. "Do you miss any teachers from high school" ?
His reply "I miss Mr Finnegan.....I miss him a lot"!
He was my son's math teacher. He wrote the nicest comment about him on his report card. It brought tears to my eyes. My son excelled in his class! This teacher is special.
He is about the best teacher you could ever have. He is patient and gives you lots of chances to improve. I didn't understand some stuff and he helped me gain knowledge. He also taught me how to work hard and to not give up. Very kind and generous man.
He is probably the best teacher you could have. His musics... I have doubts with but not with him. He has a sort of sad past, but I'm always laughing in his class. He doesn't let his students quit, and he cares about us. He is probably the only teacher that actually cares about students in this world. I love him. And he's so smart. Finished high school in one year and then went to Harvard. Now that's impressive.I never wish to leave his class.
A little late to the party here. Anyway. 11/10 Michael Finnigan is possibly the greatest teacher to have ever walked this earth. He's extremely funny, intelligent, and actually cares about his students. He's willing to go that extra mile to help anyone in need. He doesn't just teach students math, he teaches them about life. Sensational teacher, great human being. If all the teachers have half the qualities this man has, this world would become an utopia in one generation.
Got my schedule for next year and I have Finnigan... again. Sorry Mr. F, couldn't resist. So happy to have him for my last year at Yale. He rocks!
Great math teacher, love his humor!! Miss having him as a teacher. His taste in music is a little strange, but I've grown to like the band Rasmus. 10 black roses is my favorite.
Just graduated from high school. In that time I have had one or two teachers that have made a difference in my life. This man is one of them. Taught me math but also taught me to grow as a person.
Caring. Thoughtful. Flexible. Compassionate. Entertaining.... still don't get some of the jokes but everyone else laughed. Must have been funny. Have never felt comfortable in a math class until I took Mr. Finnigan's class. Very good teacher.
I really struggle in math and even though my grade was not so good, I still really learned lots in his class. I learned the phrase "It's 5 oclock somewhere" and "fill your boots". I learned math too. My favourite teacher ever.
funny. nice guy. can't tell if stories are true.
Wonderful teacher. Cares about kids a lot. Funny and informative. Keeps students motivated.
The greatest Teacher on earth! like I could say he's amazing as a teacher.. and an even better person ... One of the smartest, nicest, compassionate people I know. Wish you nothing but the best after you retire!
BEST math jokes ever!! If you listen carefully, a joke is said every two or three minutes but few get them. Last week he said "zero is better than nothing" and no one got what he meant. I think he was talking about null sets but it doesn't matter. Awesome guy. Good teacher. Very nice man.
First day of class he told me I was a good guy and that i waszt stupid. now i see what he does he gets us towork for the real world. best teacher i ever ever had.
well i only took like few class but he is a really good at teaching. however his is kind of "unique" teacher.
Every day is fun, tests are hard, jokes are lame but that is why they are so funny. Great teacher
My parents changed my schedule around just so I could be in his class. After one or two days I can see why. I have never had a teacher like this. Awesome. I love this class.
Great teacher. Changed my life.
I love him. Not in a creepy way. But as a teacher I love him. Had him last year and hope I get him again.
As a parent of three kids, I could not be happier that they had this teacher in school. Every day they would come home and tell stories of what happened in math. Imagine a teenager excited about math!! Very caring and incredibly amazing!
Everyone says it. Genius. Smartest guy I know. Also a great teacher!
I have had him for three of my years at Yale. All I can say is that I am sorry I didn't have him for all four years. He challenged me in math as his class is not easy but that is because he will pushed me to do great things. Thank you Mr. F.
Very compassionate. Wonderful experience with him all the way through school. Helped me through many tough times in school by caring about more than just my math but also about me as a person.
Best teacher I've ever had. You can tell he cares about his students, he is absolutely hilarious, easy to get along with, and very smart. Be prepared for hundreds of cheesy jokes and life stories.
Genius. Caring, Compassionate about kids. Kind, Understanding. Helpful. Simply put... an amazing teacher, amazing man, amazing. I am graduating this year and had him twice. BEST years ever!!
Could not stress more about how much this guy cares about his kids. He is always available for extra help, and encourage people to learn math better than any math teacher I've ever seen. He's the best teacher I have ever had to this date. And that means a lot coming from someone who dislikes math itself
In your class now and am understanding math for the first time ever!! Best teacher I ever had.
Hope all my kids are this amazing teachers class. My son still talks about him years after being in his class!!!
Great teacher. Loved the class. Keep up the awesome work.
Wow. That is all I can say. I have had you two of my four years at Yale. You are an absolute genius and a great man. Thank you.
Mr. Finnigan is one of the best math teachers I have ever had! He is really clear, funny, and makes math enjoyable. :)
Great :) Easy to understand. Proof: I got a high A overall
THE BEST MATH TEACHER THAT YOU COULD EVER GET!!!!!!!
Without a doubt THE greatest teacher of all time. This guy not only will make you understand math like you never have before, but he will make you enjoy it and enjoy being in his class. All his crazy gimmicks such as pizza boxes on his walls with students' names (including mine), weekly music quizzes, and the infamous "wheezy cheezy runs" make his class awesome and you'll love attending everyday.
Hes a great teacher, but the tests are very HARD. Hope to have you next year
Awesome teacher. Best ever. Hope all my kids get to have him as their teacher. My son loves math now for the first time ever.
He is actually just the best teacher at that school. He doesn't just teach math he teaches you about life.
I have only had him for two days but I can already tell this year will be AWESOME! I was always so nervous about math but this is by far my favourite class!! It is fun and I know I am going to do really well.
What he taught me was incredible. When I had him for a teacher I didn't like him because he always made us work. Now I am in University and I realize how much he really cared about us and how he taught us way more than just math. Thank you Mr. Finnigan and sorry about the bad review I gave you here a couple years ago. You are the best!
I am SO excited to have him for my teacher next year (I hope). Awesome teacher, great jokes, really pushes you to be your best.
to receive 5 bonus marks... the name of the song is 10 "black' roses... good song, very sad though!
For the first time ever im going to get an A in math..Not because he makes it easy for us... but because I pushed myself and i do everything im told. I could not ask for a better teacher. Thanks for doing more then just your job!
For teh first time ever I am doing well in math. He explains things so well and is very patient. Thank you Mr. Finnigan!
soooo funny, and so helpful, but classes are a bit difficult, good dancing and rapping skills
One of my fondest memories of high school was math with finnigan mcginnigan.
A cool teacher but his classes are a bit difficult. But you do learn in the end.
Awesome..RAD...helpful. My favourite teacher EVER!!!
Been in your class for two semesters straight and look forward to math every day. Honours and math 12 have been two of my favourite classes this year and I'll only regret the loss of math in my final year. Kudos on the awesome job, and keep up the good work! "May you be rewarded according to your hard work and diligent study."
An amazing teacher who cares about his students, and is interested in helping them ON HIS OWN TIME.
My favourite. He cares so much about his students, you can tell he teaches because he loves it. You rock Finndawg!!
By far, the best teacher at Yale. All of my kids have had him and one of them changed his career path because he wanted to become a teacher like Mr. Finnigan. Thanks Mr. Finnigan for all your hard work!!
Wow, he rawks!!! Best teacher I have ever had. Cares not only about Math but also about my life. Asks me about other things than just school. Very rad.
Excellent teacher. Absolutely spiffing. Indubitably, he is more than satisfactory, yes indeed. Sometimes i say to myself, "Hubert, one day you may choose the noble profession of teaching as your profession, and I must say, if you do indeed choose this noble profession, you must, you just must, teach like that spectacular man, whats the name.. ah yes, Finnigan." and then i laugh to myself and say "Ah Hubert, you are talking to yourself again"
Mr.Finnigan's class is the best! Imagine, a math class that people actually want to go to, well that's MATHCAMP!
He is very beautiful~~ I've got a fever, and the only prescription is Michael Finnigan ;)
Very good and awsome teacher. Very helpful and explains math crystal clear like glass or ice without air bubbles so yea he rocks.
He's an amazing teacher, i think he's my favourite teacher.. his jokes are sometimes a little lame, but i always laugh anyways.
Best math teacher I've had, no question. Has great teaching methods, and superb taste in music.
Learning lots of math and the classes are always fun and entertaining
Wow. I wasn't doing well and he helped me out!! Thanks Mr. F, you are the best. I won't forget what you have done for me
Once he joked with me and said that i wasn't allowed to bring a lunch to school, he confiscated it and then ate it himself. Funniest thing I ever saw a teacher do! He's the best!!!!
Mr. Finnigan is a math superhero, stand up comedian and music trivia whizz. Hes almost as good a teacher as that movie with danny devito he always talks about:P!
Awesome teacher. Teaches not only math skills but personal responsibility...but he always microwaves really stinky food that gives me headaches
Very funny, but moves thought the work too fast!!!!!!!!!!
He is the best teacher I have ever had. I love him.---- Marissa Puffault
He is a nice guy who works hard. I appreciate him and all he has done to help me through school.
You rock Dawg! Funny but really smart. Explains things so that everyone gets it. Best teacher I ever had.
. Excellent communication with parents. Very enthusiastic about teaching-my son who has always struggled in math is now getting 100% on tests and sits at an A so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
spent too much time on jokes not enough time on teaching
I think because he's been teaching so long he forgets how hard it is for those of us who are new at concepts. But he is funny and all that.
Like jokes... such as what did 0 say to 8? "Nice belt."
altho often times i skipped the ''hard questions'' assigned, i always did end up doin them...
He calls me spanky, I call him Finnigan. It's the bond we share.
