Listen, Meredith is a very hard teacher but she knows what you are talking about she's very animated and engaging but her classes are long. She has very hard exams but if you work hard you can easily get a 90%. She's always free to talk to students during office hours and she's never annoyed if you have 100 questions. Just work hard and Meredith will love ya!
Meredith is absolutely crazy...that good kind though. She's always super energetic and genuinely cares about her students. But be aware, she does speak fast and hates cellphones (if you get caught with it you'll have to leave).
Overall she's great and fun and I would definitely take her again!
Because of her separate website from omnivox, I almost didnt keep her class on my schedule. What I realized rather quickly, however, is that the website really is not important for her classes. Check it for tips on work, but it's mostly not necessary. I ended up absolutely loving her. She clearly knows a lot about art history and LOVES talking about it. She made everything so interesting. She gives great advice for projects and you can talk to her about anything at all. 100% would take her again
Meredith is a VERY intelligent lady and she is very nice! she doesn't make class boring however in my opinion you have A LOT to do for each class. Her exams are difficult and so are her quizzes. I would recommend taking another teacher if you are looking for a "loafer" humanities class.
She is such a great teacher and person. Very serious when it comes to learning but she makes everything fun to learn. Would 100% recommend!!
She makes un2 so interesting
She doesn't give up on you if you are failing
I love Meredith! She just has this amazing personality and is super bubbly. I had her for critical perspective in photography and she does give a lot of work and the classes are long, so I wouldn't take her if you want an easy humanities. Although she's super fun and it's easy to have good grades cause you're allowed a study sheet for the exams. If you listen in class and take notes, you will have great grades!
I was a bit skeptical when I first read the reviews on this teacher but I honestly loved her class. Meredith is very knowledgable in the subject of photography. She is also helpful and always open to questions in regards to assignments, exams, etc. She teaches you a lot of interesting things on photography and on other subjects as well. Granted, she gave a lot of work at the beginning of the semester but the workload diminished as we advanced. Pay attention, do your hw and u should be fine
I love this teacher so much. Her work is tough sometimes because you really have to study hard, but she's super helpful, always nice and is just a great person.
Meredith Browne is probably one of the worst teachers at John Abbott College. She is not well organized, she gives out insanely large texts to read and she has no regard for other classes and the amount of work they give. She sends texts and has a website. If you don't subscribe to her texts or don't check her website regularly, you won't know about homework she wants done for the next day. I was in Liberal Arts so I had to take her class, but if you can avoid her, AVOID HER!
Awesome teacher; she's just all sorts of fun :) Doesn't give out too many assignments (I have her for U of A 1) and really likes you if you actually yknow, do the work she assigns (slackers beware). She likes telling stories and jokes a lot, and SHE DOESN'T LIKE CELLPHONES!! As in, if she sees you with your phone, you're kicked out til next class.
I had Meredith for Critical Perspectives on Photography. Very interesting course, and she is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject matter. The workload, however, is absolutely insane. I took a full course-load in the Science program this semester, and I had more work for her class than any of my Science courses. If you do the work, she is a very easy grader (I got a 99). DOING the work is the challenge. She is absolutely lovely, but avoid taking her if you have a full course load.
Run, don't look back... Just run. Not a pleasant class. I HAD to take the course so it could fit with my schedule. She doesn't have the whole "teaching" thing down. The class itself would be a good class, unfortunately the teacher ruins it. If you call her Miss she gets offended and calls you sweetie... Relatively condescending, doesn't really seem to care about your success. Very vague instructions, and terrible outlines for projects/essays.
Well, here we go.
I'm writing this review, exactly 5 weeks into school.
Unfortunately, it was the only one that fit in my schedule, so I took it. Huge mistake. This class is by far THE most demanding class from all my classes and I am studying a course that requires a lot of work. So far I have had to watch two 1 and a half hour videos and take notes on them, read poorly translated obscure texts, write a 1000 word essay, present a photographer and i have to go downtown on my free time.
She is honestly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. So many assignments, the readings are extremely long and difficult to understand. In class she never actually discusses the reading or gives a clear answer about what she expects or wants from us. She wants you to put her class as your one priority no matter what. Very strict about phones or talking in class. Would never take her again!!
Guys, beware! Her "visual culture of the 1950s" course quickly turned into "feminism in the 1950s" as the semester went by. I had no problem with feminists before, but she is probably the reason why I started "disliking" them. She is a really nice person, always there to help, and she tries to make her classes as interesting as possible, but she is so unclear! She does not give any detail whatsoever about what she precisely wants, but she will give a ton of assignments/readings/projects to do.
As a person, she is really nice, but she expects you to do so many things. If she doesn't like you or your writing style, you're in trouble. I had her for visual culture of the 1950s and taking her class was probably one of the worst decisions I ever made. The workload is crazy. She gives, practically each week, terribly long and repetitive readings with questions to answer and she gives so many projects throughout the semester. She believes her course is the most important thing in life.
Very little direction to her courses; she is disorganised and patronising. Her actions scream that she yearns to be relevant and hip, but she won't tolerate opinions contradicting her own (politely or otherwise).
Most of our readings are 'hate-reads' (ie lets read an article and point out how racist/sexist it is and how ignorant the author is). There is little that you will learn. You will waste vast amounts of class time discussing non-course content and 'learning how to take notes'.
Meredith is a great teacher, she's really passionate about what she teaches and always makes class interesting. In her Studies in Visual Culture [of the 50s] class, we got to watch a couple of movies and go to the art museum, which was really cool. However, you can't slack off in her class. There are a lot of readings to do and they can be kind of long sometimes, but they're interesting. If you put in the effort, you can easily get a good grade. She lets you have memory aids for your exams too.
Really good teacher! If you do take her class, Visual Culture of the 50's, expect to work hard and do readings for almost every class, the readings are fairly simple though. She knows her stuff and I learnt a lot in her class. Avoid missing class as much as possible, she gives out a lot of info. You can easily get a 90, as long as you do the work given.
Meredith is amazing. History was the one subject I loathed all my life, but I got her for Art History and she changed my entire view art and history. My final mark was 96%. As long as you do the reading and enough of the 5% "free-be" assignments, you will do very well.
Meredith is a great teacher. She has a lot of energy and won't kill your soul with boring lectures. I had her for my critical perspective on Photography class, and it was quite enjoyable.
she taught me critical perspective on photography. it is a pretty demanding class for humanities but I still enjoyed it at times :)
Meredith is a great teacher! She's funny, engaged and super interesting! She gets students and makes class interesting and fun. Great humanities teacher! :D
listen up for the truth: she isn't an easy teacher. her tests are hard, readings are hard. HOWEVER, the class is interesting, she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about her stuff and the hands on projects are fun. if you actually do the work (which can be alot at times for a humanities class) you'll do fine. She's a fair marker...I had to work hard for my above 90 grade!
The sweetest teacher at Abbott. I had her humanities course called Critical Perspective on Photography. She gives hard readings but the activities and assignments she gives always end up being fun. The final exam was a bit difficult but doable if you studied. And if you ask her if you can have a cheat sheet, she will allow it. I totally recommend her.
Meredith is probably my favourite teacher so far at Abbott. She is energetic and loves teaching! I took her for Critical Perspectives on Photography and if you are a slack off do not take her, you do not get too much work but you do need to try in her class. No cell phones either!!!!
Meredith is an awesome teacher. Had her for Universe of the Arts I and loved it. She's extremely visual so her notes are usually drawings and keywords. It helped me to take extra notes. She gives you tons of chances to make up for missed assignments and her tests aren't very hard. Listen to what she says and don't text in class and you'll be fine. People complained that her work was hard, but I ended up with a 92.. She's a bundle of energy and has tons of info to share! I would recommend her100%
Meredith is the best. She knows so much. She's really nice and funny. Her tests are fair, just study her notes. For the essay part of the test, just write as much information as you can about the subject with examples and you'll do really well.
hated her she told me no matter what i would fail no matter what but i still had to show up to all her classes like whatttt
University of the arts 1 2 she is amazing and very out going. She has a very great way of teaching as well as is alot of fun. She is strick about cell phones BUT with her you dont need them anyway she is more entertaining and helpful
I had her for Universe of the Arts 1 and she made the class very interested. She is probably the BEST teacher at Abbott. Very organized, not much work, super knowledgable and interesting! Take her! Won't regret!
Honestly, i thought that i liked her at the beginning, but after a while she gets really annoying... shes almost too hyper. Easy grader though.
If it weren't for her, the class would be really boring. She's really funny and enthusiastic. I look forward to her class.
Meredith, or Dr Browne, has a unique way in teaching and it really works with visual students. Her classes incorporate a lot of drawings and media images which for students like me is much easier than
If you're taking Universe of the Arts, TAKE HER! She's AMAZING! She's really helpful and you have tons of chances to do the work. If you listen to her in class and do the 5% assignments you will pass!
SHE IS THE MOST AMAZING PERSON EVER! so sweet and makes the class really fun. draw for your homework and make it as fun as possible and she will love you.
Great teacher, sometimes can get a little spastic with the technology... She wants you to get the highest you can get, for universe of the arts 2 she helped out anyone who needed it
Meredith is one of the best teachers ever! Everything is explained clearly, and her tests and quizzes aren't overbearingly difficult. She does reviews and makes things more interesting. It would be a
I hate history, but she makes Univers of the arts beareble (at least for me :P)
I love her!. :). She's an awesome teacher butshe gives too much work but her class is still awesome xD Love her.
Meredith is one hyped up teacher, But it helps having a motivated teacher \m/,
She was a really great teacher. She's so nice, helpful and care for student success. Her class are not boring at all and she's funny!
[Humanities] OPEN MINDED & wants to know more about you. She's very balanced and likes to know what you think. Don't forget to back yourself up and follow the structure. Irals are easy - Lectures can get boring but just stand
GREAT TEACHER. had her for humanities. easy class, lecture can get boring after a while but she tried to make them fun. Listen in class and youll pass the class with flying colors. In all great teacher highly recomended
had her for univ of the arts 1, great teacher, she actually enjoys teaching the class. tests are easy if you copy her notes and listen to what she says also. her notes are also in the library if you missed some. funny lady!
TAKE HER!!! AMAZING :) one of the best teacher that I had
AMAZING teacher, she's interesting and fun and does not give a lot of work. Even more so, her tests really make you put on your thinking cap but if you listened you'll at least get a 75%. Overall, if you can, take her.
Had her for a humanities class, she didn't give too much work and her classes were interesting but i found her to be an extremely tough (and sometimes unfair) marker compared to other humanities teachers.
i agree, everything was great and interesting and the work load easy, only the essay at the end was at a bad time because it was so long. she is a good teacher but tough, keep up take notes in class and ul to fine
her humanities class was extremely interesting. you learn a lot and have fun. I didn't like the fact that we got a huge essay right at the end of the term, but apart from that there is not much work involved! Very nice lady!
AMAZING teacher! She makes everything so interesting. She animates extremely well and has an adorable sense of humor. She's open to help and is every understanding. Highly recommend!
She is amazing! universe of the arts would not have been so interesting without her. i highly recommend her. and if you need any help what so ever she is there.
Meredith's Universe of the Arts class was very interesting. She takes the time to get to know everyone's name and wants to include everyone in the discussion. She doesn't give alot of homework but the test are worth alot so you have to read the textbook.
Very good teacher! She is weird but funny and interesting. Also easy marker just as long as u do the essays (there's a few). I learned a lot of stuff in her humanities class on photography. She likes to make everyone participate.
Starts off really cool and funny, but seems to turn evil the last few weeks. She gives a wierd assignment where you just annotate. The instructions are unclear and no one knows what to do. So the ones who do well are those who can read her mind, or just guessed right. You can do well all semester, hand in something just as good as the rest of your work and get a bad mark. She pulls a few fast ones in the end which makes your mark go down. Also gives low participation marks even if you talk every class!!!
Her humanities class was extremely interesting. Lots of readings and informative movies. I'd say there's quite a few essays, but overall she's a great teacher. Class discussions are also fun, and the class isn't boring at all!
Fantastic teacher. Sometimes the readings and videos are a little tough or boring, but she knows this and helps the class out. Assignments can be a little irritating at times, but the marking is easy and overall it's worth it. She's got a lot of energy, tries really hard to keep the class interested in the material and is overall a really great teacher. I'd recommend taking her, it'll be the best humanities class you'll ever take.
The 3 hour humanites with Meredith can be long and at times boring but ussually the topics are modern and intersting. The readings are challenging, but she explains them and helps you out alot. There is alot of reading and writting involved but not to difficult. Her humour and attitude towards the class is fantastic.Great Semester!
Having her class for 3 hours straight was really long, it was boring at some times but i think her sense of humor really kept us interested and awake! she's a really nice teacher and it shows that she cares for us, she's really outgoing and you can even start a convo in the halls with her! If you listen in class and participate thenfor sure you'll get a really good mark at the end!
Straight up she's a brilliant teacher. Teaches things that will interest some people and turn off others. She definitely not an unqualified or dumb teacher, She knows her stuff and she's funny too. Keeps you in the full 3 hours though.
I really enjoyed having Meredith as a teacher. She makes her classes interesting, but she can be a hard marker.
I took Dr. Browne's Photography class fall '05. She is great as long as u can at least pretend to be interested in it. Just listen in class and u r set
She's really fun, especially if you like the course. Just listen in class because she covers everything that will be on the tests. If you need extra help she'll help you.
for humanities: world views, she holds very interesting class discusions and gives out tough readings, but she'll test you on them so it's an easy pass if you simply listen.
Meredith is a good teacher, however the lectures are not always informative. I find it easiest to succeed when you read all the assigned articles.
Nice teacher. LOTS of hard readings tho. Classes are kinna boring but okay.
shes really nice..but hard. i didnt read any of the articles and didnt study much for the exam and still passed!
she is very nice...a little weird, if you want to learn take her class. She loves to teach and is always there to help. if your really lazy, then this teacher isn't for you.
for humanities, she's good. she knows her stuff and tests are easy as long as your pay attention.
shes...wierd but cool. Its a pretty hard class so, watch out
She is awful. She obviously enjoys teaching, but can't stand to have anyone other than herself be the center of attention, and she seems very uneducated.
A fantastic teacher, very animated and holds great discussions.
great teacher, good explanation, funny, but you have to work hard for this course
Crit.P. on Photo: many readings, most are easy to grasp and all are discussed in class (ie: read & participate!!!). The projects were fun. +work = +grade.
This teacher is amazing... She is interesting, and enthousiastic. If you are lazy, this class is for people who want to learn. Dont waste her time if youre lazy
Get her if you can for currents 1! She's fabulous and she makes it fun.
This class was such a mistake. She Makes things harder then they should be.U have to read a lot & study to do well. Hard marker
great great teacher. she makes a boring subject interesting and she obviously loves her job. fair marker, often has bonus questions in the tests
Meredith loves to teach and it shows...she makes lectures fun and even takes suggestions from her students. The only class i've ever had outdoors. Awesome!
she is a really nice teacher and her tests and assignments are ok - she grades fairly as well. if you listen and participate it's a fun class
She's very nice and she likes people who participate.
Meredith is awsome!!! You learn stuffs by having fun.
Um, she's ok.. i find she loves to teach but .. isn't the greatest teacher. She makes the course hard, when it could be much easier.
Really nice, great teacher, - you will really learn a lot in her Criticl Pers Photo. class but you have to pay attention and read a lot
some of her classes are boring, but shes fun sometimes cuz shes so young...:)
She is really funny, she is an easy teacher, very entousiastic teacher!
