He is such a sweet old man! I swear the first 2-3 weeks of class were so hard. Random pop quizzes on the txtbk readings, useless PPTs. But that was all so ppl cud drop out so he would have less correction. He gave a heads up on "pop quizzes" which were now puzzles and match words based on PPTs (forget txtbk), and the exam was an essay question. SUPER EASY. Lowest 3/7 marks get dropped, and he will read your essay and edit it for you b4 submission! Bless him!
This dude is super boring , but he is very nice and approachable, his exams are not hard just need to study his power points. He barely made us use the books so don't buy them. He helps you in telling you what are in the exams in advance so u can prepare and he is an easy marker. Every class i would manage to sleep and manage to pass. I highly recommend if u want a loaf class.
If you like puzzles, you will love this class. Incredibly, his powerpoints and lectures are packed with information and yet devoid of information. Some would say it is impossible. I would say they have not met Jim Vanstone. I had to Google the answers to some subjects to fill in the gaps he missed. He's a really nice man, and I'm all for not having answers offered to you on a platter, but I have never had to teach myself an entire subject to such an extreme degree. Easy to pass, but easy to fail
This man is a straight up dinosaur. He may know what he's talking about with history, but he's completely lost with current events. He goes too quickly in his lectures and rarely explains in any detail, often sneaking in his personal opinions and some just blatantly racist comments (ESPECIALLY ABOUT ISLAM). His course is pretty easy if you're disciplined enough to learn the ENTIRE course by yourself using the textbook, but I think it would be just about impossible to pass on his notes alone.
class time is wasted - he reads the titles of power points and often doesn't give a clear explanation. quizzes are based on regugitated memorization, they don't test understanding. Although funny and a nice person with good intentions, he is very biased. for instance "global warming doesn't exist, its scientitsts trying to keep their grants" or "No reason to respect native american laws since they arent writen" or "Islam used to be a progressive religion" etc
Had this teacher for Western Civ. He is very knowledgeable. His quizzes are practically impossible to ace. His exams almost seem impossible at first but it's do-able. He is not that hard of a marker. He is very approachable. He'll tell you what he wants for the essays.
JAMES VANSTONE, you know what? this dude definitely grew on me. hated him at the beginning but then you'll realize he's actually awesome. Super EASY, good grader, tests/exams are good if you STUDY, he always gives you the information that'll be on the test and he's actually pretty funny. I had him for Western Civ, and didn't pay attention that much but still got an 89. Take him!
This guy loved me for some reason. I loafed in his class and slept half the time and did well on every test and every assignment. I love him too just because of that. Well the kinda guy he is, is very calm and nice but stern. He gets the point across through his many power points and readings. Just look over the textbook or power point before the test and you'll pass.
His classes are tedious, to say the least, but on the brighter side- it's pretty easy to do ridiculously well.
He is okay, but rambles alot...so do you're readings during class and concentrate on names and the section reviews. He is a good marker and you can easily pass his class.
awesome teacher!!!!! but ont easy class 3world hisrtory is alooot of work alot of readings,i passed my final with 92!! yaaaaay
It's not an easy class - you'll likely do poorly on the pop quizzes, but if you show up to class regularly, you'll do well on the exams and the paper. He's a very nice man who loves history. Take him.
Excellent teacher -- beware of pop quizzes, keep up with your reading and you'll do really well in his class.
please dont take his class unless you REALLY like history
An excellent teacher who wants his students to suceed. Gives many pop quizes, you will likely fail most of them. He drops many of your lower marks though, so it's fair in the end. Ask questions and let him know you, it helps.
Very nice guy, his lectures are clear and easy to understand. He's also very helpful. Just make sure you read the textbook when he says to, because he gives pop quizzes that you cant pass just from looking at the notes.
very into the material, straightforward with what he wants and overall a good and experienced teacher, polite and great quality.
Very polite, nice, and understanding. BUT he likes to give popquizzes which you often FAIL! He talks ALOT which means you have to take LOTS of notes! He moves his slides way to fast! He's a pretty hard teacher idontrlylikehim
An amazing History teacher. Talks very clear and if you study & take notes(Lots of notes to take) then it's easy to pass. Very polite, and extremely helpful. Take him!
Jim Vanstone is the best teacher ive ever had, hes tought me so much and i will forever remember his as a teacher
had him a while ago, and still ranks as the best history teacher ive ever had. stand up guy, take him and you wont regret it!
So good, and so smart. He knows what he's talking about, and makes sure we know too. Very helpful and kind and knowledgeable about everything
Hated him at first, but then ended up liking him.The course is well constructed, got the highest grade in the midterm,&aced the final.Really rewarding if u work!
Dr. Vanstone is a real gentleman and is very good at his profession
In the beginning you might think he's difficult and a lot of work. But it pays off. He's and easy marker....especially on the final. Just do the work= luv ya!
Best prof you could ever ask for. He is seriously top notch in history. Make sure you take him, you won't regret it. I miss having him as a teacher!
After all these years, I still remember his Russian history course. TOP NOTCH prof. Best at JAC.
Phenomenal teacher, really cares about his students and knows what he's teaching
