Chemistry isn't easy and knowing some of the people who complain about her... well they'd suck at it no matter who taught them. Ppl complain because they want the answers spoonfed to them. She's hard as hell, but you'll leave actually *knowing* Chem. Ppl who work hard do well but if ur a lazy sod, she won't baby you.
Mrs. Sonachansingh has been teaching Chemistry for 36 years, and it has been her life's passion. Yes, she is a hard marker, but it is because she demands excellence. I know past students that have gone on to Ivy League that aced her class. Most people complaining do so because they are lazy and do not apply themselves. If you get to know her she is a very kind and patient person. If you share the desire to learn she will help you. Also, she's from Trinidad. Lovely accent. Highly recommend.
I wonder why a third of the class is failing and that most of us is under 75%..
In general, a poor teacher. Her style of teaching is to simply give the class notes that are barely understandable without a textbook and expect the class to understand her explanations. She gives no criteria of how to do assignments and gives the class a grade without any form of feedback. As a result, she then proceeds to ridicule the class for not being mature which is unreasonable considering how the class does not know what mistakes they've done. It's recommended to revoke her teach license
Forget about an A. Tests aren't based on context of textbook. Labs...... Forget gettin fm a good mark, nothing is ever her fault.you write one thing wrong, and your answer is automatically wrong. Never marks fairly.
Chemistry 11. She is a hard marker on her labs. On our first lab, everyone got 50% or under, with the exception of a few who got 75%. Her tests are fairly easy if you paid attention in class. She is constantly complaining about how we're being immature and that this is a senior class and that what we did in junior science won't cut it anymore. We don't even get a textbook in this course. I would recommend taking chem when she's gone/in summer because she teaches a majority of the chem classes.
People say she's the strictest teacher but she softened quite a lot over the years I've had her. Sometimes I would just nap or be on my phone the entire class and she wouldn't care. <--- (this is the enriched class) Her tests are mostly from past provincials (m.c.). She's a hard marker though. She tests you more on what you've learned rather than memorized. Overall, she's a good teacher. Don't slack off and good luck!
Terrible teacher, basic notes ,hardly teaches in the class. sad to see that the teacher union makes it about 99.9% impossible to reevaluate a teachers teaching abilities. teach like poop, still going to get paid no matter what.
It's sad how many people see her as a bad teacher based on the marks they receive. Yes she is a hard marker but she is a good teacher and gives us ample time to complete assignments and tests. She tries to test you on how much you have actually learned versus how much you have memorized.
worst teacher "you're the problem not her"
Take chem in summer school.
She teaches well, some people over exaggerate her difficulty, her tests are just remade provincials, so basically all you have to do to do well is look up old provincials. She basically gives you them to prepare and preps you a lot before exams. Her hardest part is she marks lab reports very hard, try to BS a lot for the best mark (most people need to write many pages for a high mark).
5 words: Worst. Decision. Of. My. Life. Don't ever take a class with her, you will regret it for the rest of your life. I'm not even joking here.
She has an accent and a name like most Sri Lankans, really long
She needs to be replaced, ASAP!!!!! She doesn't even teach!!!! as her to explain something and she'll say "ooooohh i can't give you the answer. The choice is yours." So useless. >: (
Deep down inside, I'm curious how awful a teacher needs to be in order to get replaced. If I ever consider teaching as a career it would be to right the wrongs caused by her awful teaching. >= (
This teacher is total trash. She can't teach at all, won't help you when you need it. When I got her, I thought everybody was exaggerating about how hard she was. They were not kidding.
the way she teaches is that she wants u to learn by urself and to really know about chemistry...but that doesnt necessarily mean that you'll be getting a high mark in her course
lots of ppl dont like her bc she expects everyone to be ontop of things. if u work hard she will love u
It's so hard to ask her questions because it feels like she's attacking you. ONCE she picks on you she won't leave you alone until you get the answer right. TRANSFER OUT PPLS!!! OR TAKE THE CHALLENGE
Often gives teaches lesson AFTER she hands hwk out. Tests too hard, doesn't go over them. Good person, too hard of a teacher for the secondary school level. TRANSFER OUT or live up to the challenge.
actually, i think she's a pretty fair teacher. Like most people I used to dislike her because of what everyone has been telling me about her, HOWEVER as class progressed, i realized that her classes aren't bad at all. I actually learnt quite a bit in her classes and if you ACTUALLY TRY TO GO TO HER FOR HELP, she explains it to you until you understand. It's those that give her attitude that she happens to ignore sometimes which I don't blame her for doing.
I think she is a pretty good teacher. Her jokes are corny, but hey, she is a teacher. I understand the things she teaches us.
Bad teacher... can't teach... labs? forget about getting an A on those things
She's nice but not that good of a teacher. Some of her lessons are very confusing and I had to figure out stuff on my own. Her tests are way too easy and she doesn't give much hw.
She's a good teacher, I learned a lot from her. I'm now a university student and without her help getting a good mark I got in Chem 12, I couldn't have done it.
"i will NOT go thru NEfing NEmore b/c i COVERED all of dem!" "i hv been teachin longer dan u r alive" "no. i will not gif tutorials. i only can spend 100hrs w/ u. NE more + its bad." a lazy teacher. classes r useless. a miracle she's still teachin. i learned everyfing in chem12 from my tutor.
Sonachansingh (longest teacher name in my school) is very nice, but some of her lessons are useless.
man she can't teach AT ALL!! takes her ONE WHOLE CLASS to teach something that other teachers can finish teaching in 5 MINUTES!! -_-"
This teacher is very helpful and nice. I don't why u guys give her such low rating.
Tries to make a lot of jokes and tries to be 'cool'. Nice teacher. Understands students and doesn't give TOO much homework.
Nice person, seems to be preparing us for provincial well, but quite hard to understand her sometimes.
She is the reason why I'm majoring in Chemistry at UBC, She never let me blow anything up. But now at UBC I CAN! MUHAHAHAH
hm... quite boring in class... haha.. i dont listen to her tho -_-' just make sure u pretend to
I don't get why she's teaching science 9...she doesn't even know science! We ask her questions about science stuff and she doesn't even know it when we do!
chem 11 is ez.... chem 11 review is HARD!!!!! but shes really "COOL"!!!
hard but nice, please teach more thoroughly!! i hate chemistry, though....
Nice teacher, but her marking is hard..the class result doesn't match her's..the whole class get's it wrong~~!=p
Good person. Funny. Friendly. Likes students. But does not teach clearly and thoroughly enough, especially for the hard ones like Chem 11 & 12.
If jello is gelatinous, and powder is powdery, then isn't milk milky?
if you learn anything, it'll be by accident.. she's hilarious though
Milky is wrong, but cloudy is ok? Whats with the elephants too!
nice and good at teaching but needs to be a lil more easy
very nice and sometimes funny. her tests are a bit tough, though
i agree....she insists she is always right....she made me hate Chemistry
i seem to fall asleep in all her classes, i don't understand wat she is saying
Very good teacher...teaches well...I actually understand!
average teacher with a little negative attitude towards struggling studen.
