I had Mrs. Mutter for German I. Only teacher that will learn your name, she is super caring and funny. Her class are based on group discussion (mostly pairs of 2 and occasionally groups of 4) and textbook. Don't worry about the group discussion, most people do not know each other. She will say what is in the exam and quizzes. No pop quiz. She will always say min a week before for the exam. Participate, she loves it and it is better for you since you are practicing. I had 90% as a final grade.
Where do I start?
First off, don't use your phones in class , she will make a huge scene and make you leave the class. She has a heavy German accent and is sometimes bad with remembering names. She hates laptops, because she doesn't trust people. She gives a lot of multiple choice tests and her quizzes are short and easy. I had her for cultural currents and passed the class but she does come off as a little strict.
I managed to get German level 1, but I ended up dropping out of the class two weeks into school. I could not stand her constant group discussions. It was my first semester when I had her, so I knew nobody. She was very persistent with groups and even raised her voice at me for not doing so. After that, I decided she wasn't for me and I should had just stuck to Spanish. With that, I knew that she was one of the teachers that wanted everything to be done their way. I'm glad I dropped out.
She is wonderful and truly cares about her students. The only thing I disliked is being forced to work in groups every class since I am very shy. Otherwise, she is very kind and also funny. If you do what she asks you to do, you will learn German easily and also have good grades. She dislikes when people don't take the class seriously, so don't take this course if you're not truly interested in learning the language.
Do the work and you will get a good grade. Had german as complementary and finished with 96. Class Average was 83
Love love love her! I had her for 2 years and she is such a sweet and nice person. She cares about your marks and will hunt you down if you miss too much class. Don't even think about taking your cellphone out in class; she wants you to pay attention. Explains things well and makes sure you understand.
Brilliant teacher who loves what she does. Her tests are easy and she tells you exactly what you need to know for them. Very helpful and caring about her students, just don't let your phone go off during class. My only complaint is you're made to work in groups every class so if you're antisocial you might not enjoy that part. Overall fantastic teacher I'm glad I learned German with her.
She's so cute and nice! There's nothing wrong with her at all, but German sounds ten times more confusing than it already is when she explains it.
Gisela is such a great human being, very cultivated woman. You should definitely take her for german and integrating seminar...
The best teacher ever! Don't miss your chance to take her for GERMAN and integrating seminar.
Had her in 5 courses ( 4 German and Integrating Seminar) and I must say that say that she's a great teacher.
had her for both german and intergrating seminar, LOVED her. Such a nice and knowledgeable woman, AND an EASY MARKER. TAKE HER.
It's true that she is a fair marker. She seems harder than she really is and always gives second chances. A very nice and cultivated woman, I especially enjoyed her Cultural Currents II class.
Took her 2 semesters in a row.Fantastic teacher:clear, helpful and interesting. But you need to work though, read the textbook and don't miss too much class. Fair marker too.
dont listen but read and youll get a 80! Or listen and dont read and youll get a 75! do both pass by 95! Its all up to you and yes gisela helps a lot just ask and youll get it.
(cultural current 1) Good teacher if taking a lot of notes don't bother you. You can pass the class if you read the whole books or read regulary all your notes though. Weird, but funny and helpful.
If ur takin her for cc, good luck understanding wtv she says. Shes always lost and disorganized. She does post the notes online. Her exams are ok.
(for beginner's german 1): sometimes she leaves things to the last minute so be prepared to study when tests/quizzes come cuz they're worth a lot & add up in the end. overall nice & funny teacher. i slacked off a bit but managed to get 80%+
She very funny... but weird...(u'll see) very dinamic exam are not very hard... if u do some efforts u'll never fail. guaranteed... (german 1)
For cultural currents, you work on one book at a time. Once you finish a book, you do the test and that's the end of the book. If you show up for classes, she will pass you. No cumulative exam.
nice teacher but some parts we repeated like 600 times !! but recomended you will do good in her class...:)
A wonderful woman, very sweet and helpful. Unfortunately, most people who take her class are morons and so she gets flustered and teaches the same thing many times. I did my work and I got a 94.
shesss weird!!! i didnt like her. cuz of the way she talks and her facial expersions arent always clear.... ummm her class is ok but shes werid...
Very sweet teacher, if you do all the work and respect her you'll pass with high 80's even 90's
Gisela is one of the amazing teachers at Vanier. If you are ready to put yourself into work and really learn something, she's definitely a RECOMMENDED! She's very nice and super understanding and is always there for you whenever you need to be helped. She loves to have you in her office~ So do not hesitate if you need some little extra help!
I've probably already rated Ms. Mutter for German I...but now that I've taken German II, I see that she hasen't changed her teaching habits, and that getting into harder material only makes her explain everything in more detail. If you are really in her class to learn the language, it'll be a breeze, because you only have to understand the basics to get through exams really well! She was an amazing teacher, recommended.
Gisela makes class and the material exciting in more ways than one. The work she puts on the student is hard, intense, but pleasurable. You must work hard to please her, and succeed. If you can catch her alone, she will help you.
she is one of the nicest teacher ever...easy exams, very understandable, and the trips with her are so fun!
I had her for cultural currents and I loved her. She gives alot of quizzes but tells you what is on them beforehand. She is very helpful and is very easy to talk to about anything. she helped me get through the semester. Her tests are not hard either.
she's a fantastic woman. be prepared to work, though. she doesn't let you get away easy. if you complete everything, you can definitely manage to get into the 90's. she's great with cultural currents, and gives you all the notes to study from for her tests.
what a boring class!! makes learning so boring, not interactive, though she is nice and whatever. if your doinmg cultural currents take keith orkusz, hes waay better. theyre both easy.
not very clear, boring.Too many notes and unimpotant quizzes that don't count. Doens't make learning fun, needs to be more interesting and understanding with students. Seems like a nice lady but she's not the best teacher.
Very good teacher, simple, conservative teaching.Fun class, lots of team work
good teacher.. although the way she teaches german is not that awsome.. she s not hard but u dont learn much .. pointless
explains well, seems strict but isn't. She knows her stuff and is very professional. She is one of the few teachers i have respect for.
has a great teaching style, gives great notes about everything on her tests, nice person, and will give you help if you ask.
She's nice and sweet. I took her for German and it was fine. But you have to study a bit to get something above 85%.
a great teacher who knows her stuff (cultural currents) she prepares you for tests properly, if you can take this teacher
She's great. She really understands that german isn't easy so she tries to make it as easy as possible. Her tests are perfect. Study and get in the 90s easily!!
Very good teacher! She is interesting and always answer questions clearly.
Very good teacher. She knows German is difficult so she is very helpful
German isn't easy but this teacher is very helpful so she makes it easier.
She's a great teacher. However she has a very German sense of humor.
