In all honesty he was a nice guy and wanted to help his students but the class was REALLY HARD. We read one book the whole semester which had to have been reread multiple times in order to understand. The work load is not a lot seeing as everything was focused on that one book but the level of difficult more than made up for it. Super philosophical and written in a old french. Not allowed the book during the tests. It is possible to still get a good grade but you really gotta put in the hours.

He is a good teacher, bur WAY too hard. I came from a french school and finished with 70 percent. His tests are too hard and his condescending attitude is the worst. We only talked about Rousseau all semester and it was so boring and hard to follow. No one read the book because we did not understand anything, thankfully he would explain it (he knew the book by heart, he was like in love his Rousseau, kinda awkward) Honestly, worst class ever.

Ghayas is an excellent teacher! I am far from being a francophone, but was in his 103 French class and passed with flying colours, thanks to the clarity of his lectures. He is also very approachable, so by all means go see him if you need help. His philosophical side makes for very captivating in-class discussions.

Do not take him unless you enjoy spending an entire semester on a book you won't even understand. Every class is pointless as he makes us go over our readings we had to do for homework that nobody did. He's not a good grader. I'm a francophone from a french high school and was not even able to get above 75% in his class even if I studied before every test. He makes us read books that are not even stories but political views on topics. I did not like him and he clearly did not like me.

You can tell Ghayas is a very cultured man and is very interested by his subject. I took his Littérature et Société class and I don't feel like I learned anything, except for memorizing details from the tedious book we spent the whole semester analyzing, Voyage au Bout de la Nuit. Except for a few easy writing exercises, your grade for the semester depends on how well you memorize the book and some pdf documents with historical facts. His true/false exam questions are often unclear.

Had him for Litterature et Societe. "Voyage au bout de la nuit" was the worst book ever, very hard to understand and not interesting. The tests on the book were difficult but his writing tests are easy. Strict teacher but if you do all you work, you'll get the grade you deserve. Loved his french accent! Does not like tardiness and talking. Will switch you places if you talk with your neighbour. He's a sweet person and is helpful. Would recommend if you work hard.

I would recommend it to you if the book he made us read was not pure sh*t!!!! He is a nice teacher and he is really an interesting man but, the book, "Voyage au bout de la nuit" by Louis-Ferdinand Celine that he made us read is so boooooooooooooring and it is quit a hard lecture even if French is your first language. Drop his class if you will read "Voyage au bout de la nuit".

Very severe teacher. The exams are reflective of the course however very strict grader. Don't try and have your own oppinioms or go against what he believes, because he'll let you know. as a person i love him, howevera as a teacher i really don't recommend. Especially if french isn't your first language.

I honestly really enjoyed Hachem's class. He's a really neat guy, loved his accent and he seemed to be genuinely interested in our opinions. Good French teacher to take, but be advised that his tests and essays are difficult and his French class is more of a philosophy class than anything!!

He's not clear in his explanations and isn't really available for students, so you're on your own to try and understand the books. It's a hard class, so if you do end up with him, you might want to think about getting a tutor. From what I've heard almost all the french teachers at Dawson are really hard, so I guess he's no that bad.

Hachem, despite what has been said, is not worth the effort. While he does seem easier than other french teachers, he is very strict on certain dumb details, has students read various texts in french without ever providing a clear context or explanation for them (especially on the harder ones), and in general, his classes can be extremely boring. Even though he is technically teaching "french language and culture," we also rarely took advantage of looking at examples of french culture around us.

find it very strange to listen someone who does not have roots in quebec talk good about seperatism, like it make good sense what happen in the 60s. talk of personel poliitic bad form in class anyway. lots of homework, but ok marker. if you can deal with his attitude, you will live, but take other teacher is you can. he really beats on english kids, but even if your mother tongue is french and your name is something else, your bad as an english kid. he wont like.
