Doug is a super knowledgable and interesting human being but his course is just way too heavy. We had to read 3 novels (course was called Three Novels - it was my 200 English course) and write FOUR ESSAYS. Good thing he is an easy marker because that is an intense course load. He also has hard reading tests which is frustrating. I wouldnt recommend taking him but he's an easy marker so you'll do fine. He keeps you the full two hours and just talks about EVERYTHING unrelated to course material.

If you come to class and read the book an good grade is pretty easy to get. He is stickler for grammar but you can have him look over your essay before its due and he will correct your mistakes which can be the difference between a 75 and an 85. plus you watch a lot of movies, granted they aren't very good.

I really don't know why people are hating on him. I am currently in his class and actually find his lectures to be quite interesting. If you're and avid reader, philosophy, current issues and enjoy modern literature I would absolutely recommend him. Although, do be prepared for quite a bit of reading. If you're in sciences or have a full course load its probably not a good idea to take his class due to large amounts of readings.

I would highly suggest not taking Doug. He has absolutely no clarity with his assignments and marks. He doesn't have rubrics and will give you any mark he "feels". He often grades around the same, giving everybody marks ranging in high 70s, to 80s. So even if you put more effort in an assignment and try to improve on your past mistakes you're likely to get the same mark. He also happens to be dull and kind of lost overall.

He's a good teacher, but a bit boring/sometimes it seems he doesn't particularly care about the subject. However, he's an easy marker and picks interesting books.

[Intro to Litt: Mythology] He is slightly disorganized and boring, btu he is random and gives you a break half way into the class, which is pretty awesome. The topic is interesting and he knows a lot (he also likes words, mark my words) He is very picky about format and structure of essays, so watch out. You'll read the Odyssey, the Illiad, Sophocles and all that jazz. It is very interesting and once you get over the sometimes "boring-ness" of the class, it's fun.

His intro to lit. class is really boring, take another teavjet if you can. He's nice enough but VERY dull, the breaks are the only thing that keeps his class alert.

His Journey's Through the 30's class is great. Fair marker and pretty funny guy. If you want to learn about the 30's, its a great class, and its not all reading, theres some great movies too. Actually...3 of the 5 writing assigments were on movies.
