I had David Oram in 2006 for Waves and Modern Physics. 10 years later, In all my higher education (college and university), I can honestly say his class prepared me the best for the real world. I work in management consulting; his class is cut-throat, just like how it is in the real world.
He isn't your parent. He isn't there to coddle you.
Title your graphs in full sentences, learn how to story-tell your reports through your findings, embrace the difficulty and challenge yourself.
he understands perfectly what he teaches but explains it poorly, goes fast and expects you to think like him,.. you may learn but dont expect your marks to be high,
People find him hard, but he is the best teacher you will ever have. He understands the principles of how things work, in life, and will teach you extremely well, Too bad if you're lazy!
he's rlly fast at points and won't wait for you to understand. TESTS ARE HARD! lik u cant get higher then 70 but fail is usually the case! LABS ARE LIK 30 pages THICK and u have to draw all the graph
Love him dearly...best physics teacher i had at vanier. Thank you Mr. Oram. I wish him the best.
Very good teacher, can talk to him during office hours for help, very friendly if you don't cross him, Exams and tests; REALLY HARD!!! Study WAY before hand, do what he says, MAKE YOUR OWN PROBLEMS!
Hard marker, but very good teacher. To pass with him, you have to study a lot.
A lot of people don't like him, but in my opinion he was good at teaching it was just the tests that were long and hard, you have to start studying two weeks before. it was definitely a tough class.
my average is 90 with him.. but yeah worked hard to get it.. he gets really stricts with evaluations.. hes going to retire this year. you can even see by the way he teaches.. he's not even into it.
Great teacher, honestly, knows his stuff. Tests are long and difficult, lab reports are even longer (8-12 hours). But I didn't have the book that year, his class was enough.
the best physics teacher. Knows his material and is there to help
the best in the physics department, but it won't be easy. great explainer, knows exactly what students tend to misunderstand. willing to help you!!
Mr. Oram is infact a great teacher. He explains very cleary. His tests are based on your understanding and not memorization. Lab reports take forever to write, but if you them the way he wants you to then you can get a ten on ten and sometimes even an eleven. His tests are long though. If you are willing to work hard and put some effort you can get over 75 for sure. I had him for two semesters and found this teacher overall to be excellent.
Best physics teacher. He really knows his material and can be fun
He's a fantastic teacher, but the rumors abour ridiculously hard tests are true. His tests are two hours long for only six questions for a total of thirty marks...hard au but. Great teacher though.
All the previous ratings are from students who failed his course. Overall, he's a good teacher. His exams are long, but doable. Prolly the best physics teacher in the college. Disses the book a lot.
If you think you're good in physics, this guy is about to change your mind. His class notes very disorganized and his tests are 3 hours long for only 5 questions. One word: AVOID!!!
Ohk well i fond that he is really clear well i understand everything he says in class. It's true that he is quite demanding but it's not impossible with him.
You really have to get his way of thinking and understand EXACTLY what he wants, search forever in "The Brick", which has no page numbers, and have to study on your own. Hard marker too, watch out!
He's a nice guy.....But!No teaching skills whatsoever. He gives examples in class and never finishes them.He is unorganized(crucial element of a good teacher).Best part:His exams are impossible!
Expects way too much, tests are super long and much more difficult than class examples. Never respects office hours, not very helpful/reassuring. Sends subs even if it's the class before a test. Avoid
those who criticize him do it because didn't prepare for exams...he doesn't allow a cheat-sheet but at the same time he doesn't cover all the sub-chapters from the book which is really helpful...his exams are hard but his quizes on a weekly basis prepare you well enough...i thank this teacher cuz he's the only one that really helped me understand the material...i failed with another teacher but passed with a good grade w/ oram just because he bothered to explain not only do examples...
He could win the prize for an 'anti-teacher'. He lacks seriosity, has no idea what pedagogy and methodology mean.
HIS TEST IS HARD, UNMANAGEABLE. HE IS ALWAYS LATE AND UNAVAILABLE. HE MAKES STUDENT WAIT DURING AN APPOINTMENT.
He isn't so bad. Be respectful to him, otherwise he might not have much respect for your class in general. His tests are very long and they are difficult. He doesn't do examples in class, but focusses instead on the material itself, and he expects you to understand the material in class and do examples on your own. If you are having trouble, you can always see him and ask-his explanations outside of class are very good. He is perfect for real physics lovers though and has a sense of humour.
I was THE best physics student in my graduating highschool class of about 300 (don't want to brag but it is the truth and I am anonymous). I got 80 in NYA with a horrible mechanics teacher. I just got 65 with Oram in physics-NYC. This is a joke, his tests are so hard you need a miracle to pass them. He is always late for class; he sometimes gets his friends to cover for him because he has something better to do than teach HIS class. A lot of what everyone else said in previous ones are true too.
I don't know where to start.. this man is unbelievable! He's always late, then makes you stay longer, his tests are insane, he's never available for help, he always leaves the class etc.. etc.. I didn't even bother to study for my last test cause I knew I would fail anyways.. whatev he's not mean, his lectures are ok, but he's just not a good teacher..
hard!!! he's always rushing and his exams are very long+hard. Don't take him if you are not that good in physics
He is a good teacher overall, but my primary concern was that he was hardly ever available....he has no office hours; you have to set up an appointment. His tests are very lengthy...like, it'll have 5-6 questions, but like parts A-Z, ya know :)
If u want to succed with this dude, you need be at another level.Once u get to his level , things become really easy. His tests are hard and most eveyonr in the class fails,so improve your R-score with this dude. Teaching is also really good.
his exams r long , he puts like 14 questions in some quizzes, but he explains very well n makes u think n understand . He gets paranoid about lab reports
If u r here to learn, fully recommended. if u just want to pass, not recommended
AVOID, doesn't prepare you well. Average of class was 55 for all tests...If you wanna fail take him
who says his tests are hard, but it's long. If u know ya stuff u can do it in 30 sec. If u want asks him for question do it after the class.
Hard marker, but clear on what he wants, always rushing, during the exam if u donn't give ur paper while he's collecting it, won't take it anymore, hard exams
i think he was a good teacher he would go through the work load quickly.....if ur one of those ppl that just get physics take him ull b ok!....
A good choice for smarter students, very difficult tests, mostly examples in lectures, a lot of people have a hard time.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! I am an A student, but his class was hard, especially his tests that take more than 2 and1/2 hours to do.
Oram is the worst teacher I know. I failed his class but got 80 + in my other subjects. He doesn't' tell you what is on test and is not available, no office hrs
very long tests (2 hrs), tells you what is in the test, you have to study well, do the problems, understand them, and know how to redo them fast in the test.
He speaks well and clearly but his tests are made to fail, no joke
