I took his intro to philosophy class in 2009-2010. It was memorable as the worst class I took at Dawson. By far. I majored in phil at McGill. He didn't prepare me for this at all. No primary sources. Final exam required us to interview a random person about a philosopher we covered in class. Instead of actually requiring me to learn something, it made me speak about something I don't understand with someone who understands even less. And then spend hours transcribing the interview. Avg was 52%

Some of the reviews on here have false information. He does not fail you if you fail two quizzes?! He gives 14 quizzes (all pretty easy) and of those 14 he will take only your 10 best. You can literally not do 4 quizzes. Of those 10 best quizzes you have to have an overall average of 60. If you fail that part of the course then you honestly deserve to fail the course because that is pathetic. I finished the course with a high grade especially compared to the average. Very interesting course too.

I almost did not take this class because of the reviews I read on here. I am so glad though that I did because it is the best english class i have ever taken. The stories are really interesting and easy to read. I would sometimes read the story an hour before class and get in the 90s on the quizzes. He is very knowledgable and i learned a lot about Asia and Africa. He encourages students to disagree with him and discuss their interpretations (even if they are way off). Easy to get a good grade.

Worst teacher I have ever had!! My average in English is usually in the high 80's and with him my average was below 60. The class average was a failing mark. He is not clear with what he wants. He is extremely disorganized. Sometimes I think he confuses himself. Very hard marker! His marking also doesn't make any sense. His class can be stressful. Do not take this teacher.

This is my least favourite teacher I have ever had. I ended up with a 76 in his class, his grading makes no sense and he is not clear about his assignments and essays and for what he wants. we read many books but the longest one was awful. he was so unclear I would not recommend him.

Quite a bad teacher. Gives tests every class on the reading, and grades them on 3. Even though they're only worth 3% he fails you if you fail more than 2. This teacher is very enthusiastic but seems a little lost at times. Gives poor explanations when asked questions (you will be more confused than before asking the question) and often does not answer questions at all. Constantly complains that people are not talking and gives harsh criticism when you get the answer wrong. Avoid!

This teacher is ANCIENT! He's very confused and unorganized. He was never clear on what he was assigning to us, nor when it was due. He lost a few of my assignments and accused me of never submitting them. He didn't take note of our grades, and on the last day of class asked us to write down the grade we were given on our exams so he could take note of them. He then emailed me asking to resubmit my exams as proof. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! save yourself the grief and stress.

One word AVOID Actually though, do not take his class, although "african and asian litterature" sounds interesting, he is not helpfull, you won't talk about Africa and Asia. This teacher has taught me NOTHING. Does not give clear instructions on anything, no explanation for the grades, arbitrary gradings, but bad grades. Should retire

I had him for Intro to Philosophy. This teacher has no idea what he is doing, it is like someone picked him off the street and said "Teach this class philosophy!" He doesn't seem to know a whole lot about philosophy, and every time someone tries to explain an idea to him, he always just looks confused and says something like, "I'm not sure where you're going with this but okay..." He has no idea how to do the simplest things that to a teacher, should be second nature. i.e. explaining assignments

His teaching methods arent too good...i took him for philosophy, and we wasted so much time studying dead people instead of thinking - I regret losing that time, because when we DID broaden our minds, it was the most useful course Ive taken so far. Most people wont be able to keep up, but thats because theyre small minded. Its not the kind of robotic course where u take down notes and follow the herd, you actually think for yourself. Finally a course designed to make you smarter, over obedient

I advise anyone not to take David Fielding's english class. Very monotonous and makes everyone draw useless maps. End of semester project has no outline whatsoever and the class had a huge fail rate.

I actually really liked this teacher, yes he is a little lost and vague/unclear at times, but he is passionate about what he teaches and tries to make the material relevant to our lives, it does help that I was interested in the course content as well.

I can't even say he's the worst teacher ever because he doesn't teach anything. He explains nothing. His assignments don't make any sense. He is unclear, condescending, makes you redo everything, and never gives your work back graded. He ruined philosophy for me.
