Ms. Somers is by far the worst art teacher I have ever had in my life. She plays favourites, is so strict and rigid in her teaching style, and has no idea what it means to encourage students' creativity. All you have to do is take one of her classes and compare it with Mr. Tryphonopoulos and you will see a huge difference. She makes people hate art, which is such a disappointment considering she teaches the grade 9 class so often.

Worst experience I've had. She plays favorites VERY hard, and you're in for a LONG semester if you aren't one. Even if you remind her many, many times about something (ie. you'll be away on a certain day), she'll still forget and get upset with you. Marks hard and there will be a lack of communication between you and her if she does not like you. Worst thing is if she promises a work period after a "quick chat", you'll be lucky if you get 20 minutes to work. Switch out, unless you're good at art

Worst art teacher at Bayview. She does not listen to other ideas, and gives bad marks if one follows what they want to do in a project. She thinks she knows art the best. Picks favorites. Don't take her class at all!!!

Has favorites. If she does not like you she will fail you. Seems like a nice teacher at first, then turns out to be BAD. Really BAD. You really learn nothing new, not helpful. Marking is discriminative against people of Chinese or Asian culture.

I guess she's pretty nice or at least not overly mean but she marks based on who she likes. Wrote down 0s for me for projects that I showed to her, she didn't correct the zeros at all. Needs to make projects more exciting and takes up half the class doing boring review

She takes forever to explain things in her class.... but after that, the art projects are actually quite fun. Moderately strict, goes by favoritism, and takes little mistakes very seriously. Very difficult to get over a 90% if she doesn't like you.

Ms.Somers is an artist herself, but she takes things way too seriously. She only picks the students that she likes and goes by favourism. Luckily, I'm one of her favourite student. -Anon

Ms.Somers is nice, if you treat her with respect. She makes assignments FUN, but practice, practice, practice! Go over your notes before you take a test. Know the basic elements of design and show that you are having fun in her class. She is helpful in terms of fixing teeny mistakes on projects (such as sculpting). She doesn't like people who are late for class, but you have to shush when she is speaking or else you'll get in trouble. Show that you love visual arts and express your creativity!

She marks based on favoritism. Example? My friend and I did printmaking, but since she was away the day we did our prints, the supply teacher gave us the wrong type of paper. She gives my friend extra marks because its harder to do the print on that paper, but doesn't give me the extra marks (same paper). Furthermore, her comments are not clear as to how you could have improved to earn a better mark. She takes too much time repeating herself, and not enough time for students to actually work.

Ms. Sommers is a nice teacher who is pretty easy going. If you aren't finished an assignment, so can always stay during your lunch to get it done. She spends a little too much time with test review, and you go over the same material three times. She never tells anyone they lack artistic ability, and will help improve. She also lets people resubmit work sometimes. While there are some students who generally get higher marks than me, it is more of because the quality of work is better than bias.

She spends way too much time in the beginning of class, trying to take up tests and explain work. Her marking is based on if she likes you or not. But overall, she's a tolerable teacher.

Marks were inconsistent, though easy most of the times. Did not record a mark properly so I lost 2 percent off my final. Most of the students dislike her, but she can be a very nice and helpful teacher at times.
