Bertram knows the subject he teachers extremely well. He does call people out in class and kind of embarrass them if they do not know the answer. He gives out a practice test and the real test is the exact same but different numbers and definitions. He's not extremely friendly and his classes are just long lectures but if you study and do the practice tests, his class isn't that bad.
I did not like him. He is not clear and when you ask questions he make sure to embarasse you in front of the whole class. I tried going to his office to ask what should i do to get better grades and he told me study more. Exams are easy but theres a section that is not clear. Also, he only give 4 exams and thats the grade you are going to get. No projects or assignments who could help his students to raise up their grades
Hates cellphones, doesn't allow you to leave class for the bathroom or water! However his tests (MICRO) are exactly like the practice problems. No quizzes homework or assignments. Only 4 tests. Of the first three, he drops the one with the lowest mark. Study the definitions & practice problems carefully & you will easily get a good mark! Just make sure you write your answers the way he wants it written (like in the practice problem answers) otherwise he will take off a lot of marks.
funny guy, pretty nice but doesn't tolerate cellphones.
he was a really good teacher. its impossible to get bad marks in his class since his tests are exactly like his practice assignments that he gives. if you listen and do the assignments, you wont get below 95%!
He was a good teacher ! if you are bad with definitions don't take him !! since half of yours points will be on definitions. I always had 100% on problems and 10-20% on definitions :P
Bertram has taught me everything I need to know about plots. Plotting is his area of expertise and he loves talking about it. Although a bit on the old side Bert can still relate to the younger crowd. I definitely recommend anybody looking to hone their plotting skills.
Though Somers is a very strict teacher, he has a reason to be. Macro is not an easy subject and if you slack off you're never going to pass- regardless the teacher you have. He is strict, but not unreasonable... The material is clear and easy if you pay attention, the tests are easy if you take the time to do the practice tests. He is also pretty funny and sarcastic. Don't go in there with a grudge to him based on what everyone else says. I got an 80 overall. DON'T FORGET THE DEFINITIONS! :)
Extremely strict, he's not helpful AT ALL and puts people down if they're not as smart as him. He teaches at a really fast pace, if you're not good at economics/math then he will make you hate it even more. Don't choose him as a teacher, you'll regret it.
do not listen to the other hes a really good teacher. you learn a lottt from him and he gives the exams in advance so i really dont see how you could get lower than 75-80 in his class. the only hard part is to learn the definitions by heart but i would always learm them the night before the tests and still get everything right its really not that bad i like him a lot hes nice and gives you chocolate at halloween he looks like he has a lot of experience you can learn a lot from him take take take
His notes are all over the place.. Actually he doesn't have notes, he just draws graphs on the board all class long
honest opinion! do his practice exams and assignments even though he doesnt check. without them, you'll fail. doesnt let you leave during class, hates cellphones, doesnt care if you fail.
Dont take him...thinks he is funny and the best teacher in the world but he actually is bad....please do not take
he is very monotone and boring, doesnt help since macro is already a fairly boring class. He gives practice tests which are helpful. Not the worst teacher you could take.
The entire mark is based on three exams(you do four and he drops the lowest one).Good if you don't want to waste time on assignments and projects, but...
if you miss a single class, you'll be in big trouble for the tests because every lecture is dependant on previous ones. he will assume you understand everything if you ask a question.
Super easy class, memorize the definitions, and know how to do simple calculations and you'll get high 80's easily. Doesn't give any homework, and drops your lowest test. TAKE HIM.
not bad, but there are better micro teachers to take. memorize those definitions or you'll fail. he's not the nicest person, and the subject is boring. I'm just glad i got over 75 so i don't have to take this again at mcgill
DO NOT TAKE HIM. he does not explain anything in detail in his classes and as soon as you go into your next economics class you will have no idea what your doing.
An alright teacher. Know your definitions by heart. Make sure you do your work. And you'll do just fine.
DONT take him, it is so hard to pass his tests you have to memorize definitions, hes way to picky about his tests. and he does not teach in class, the only way you have a chance at passing is if you read the book by yourself
He was by far my favourite reacher!! makes macro so interesting! and you know exactly what will be in your test...if u fail its because you skiped all the classes or just didnt work at all
He really knows his material. His classes can get long and there is work to do. When correcting homework he chooses people off the attendance list. You can be sure that if you pass his course you will have learned something.
will pick at anything on tests that he doesnt like, tells you what is on tests, gives clear notes, somewhat bias
AMAZING! All we have is 4 exams during the semester and no research paper to do! But that doesn't mean that you can slack off because he criticises a lot about people who don't work hard because he doesn't ask much from us!
No need for the book, his class notes are great and just remember to remember the definitions and understand how to calculate whatever you must.
good teacher but be prepared to work, you actualy learn a lot in his class
Very good teacher.Tests are easy exactly like his assignments. ust make sure to memorise the definitions many peiople dont and thats why they dont get good marks. Hes one of the best teachers for economics, knows his material
He teaches very well, and his tests are somewhat easy (the assignments are almost the same as the tests). He's very boring, but he's funny occasionally. He's very easy if you just do a bit of work or work in a group, it really helps. Honestly, he is a nice person. I took him for 3 courses, and though I got average marks, I dont regret it.
umm he's a good guy and willing to help and you can ask as many questions as you want and he'll answer them clearly and well. The only problem is that he goes way too fast and he's pretty vague when it comes to the material needed on tests and studying the definitions are a big hassal. other than that, take him, he's one of the best and he'll crack jokes too
Great teacher!! makes it easier and simple. going to see him in his office will really put you on his good side
He teaches well and will answer all of your questions in class. However, if you don't work, you will fail miserably!
Take him only if you love Economics. Why teach if you don't like students? Thinks he's teaching at university.
im really into my other classes, but macro is TEDIOUS
i took him for 3 economics classes...he is amazing!! you come out understanding economics! i'll admit at first the class is scary...work hard and don't fool around and there is no reason you can't get in the 80's...his classes are excellent prep for management in university and university economics classes.
NICE TENNIS PLAYER! LOL... BUT ALSO A GOOD TEACHER - MAKE SURE TO LEARN THE DEFINITIONS AND DO THE ASSIGNMENTS! HE IS A FAIR GRADER, BUT BE SURE TO BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR ANSWERS.
very hard marker. I had to take a tutor because he explains so fast. Overall he's a good teacher but you really have to do the work. assignments =exams
When asked for clarifications, he doesn't give a precise answer. 30+ definitions are a pain to learn. In-class notes are bad, and the book is of no help.
hes a great teacher who knows his stuff...but if you arent into it...he'll put you to sleep in minutes
Although he can seem like a difficult teacher at first, it will be incredibly easy for those who do the work in his class to get grades of 80% or higher.
If you are lazy and don't want to learn, you will hate him and he will hate you. If you do want to learn he will be very helpful and ready to give high marks.
Best Economics teacher at John Abbott. Although a bitt gruff he will make economics easy to understand and tell you what kind of questions are on the tests.
i had him for 3 economics classes (macro, micro, money and banking) and would take him again. Amazing teacher if you want to learn and work hard.
Very good teacher. Get on his good side and he will do everything to help you pass. I thought he was GREAT!!!!
Can be mean at times but takes the time to explain things clearly and tells you which questions will be on his exam. If you do the work you can get 80-90.
Can insult u in class .. acts like ur an insect ... but for some reason u end up likeing him.. its a love-hate thing
Take this class if u want to fail. Bert definitly is the hardest marker i've ever had, i barely passed, and i did tons of work!
Not a very nice or likable teacher but is very good at explaining and making things clear.
Explains Clearly, Helpful to Students who make an effort to learn. Will make fun of students who answer his questions incorrrectly
He is very clear, and he is happy to help you. Although u know what will be on the test they can be hard because he is a picky marker. Study your defs!
Class average was 42%...He really likes to make students feel bad about themselves, makes him feel better about himself...Too bad not a bad class.
exams are easy, because its exactly what u do in class. but he insults u in front of class when u get a question wrong
He's hard and WILL insult students. Get on his good side, go to class and do the work and you should pass.. MAYBE.. class average when i had him was a fail.
Bert is a good teacher...just be nice to him and know the subject and eveything should go well. Exams are pretty easy...he gives you the questions...
His teaching methods are dated but still effective. Act like an adult and he will treat you like one. Very hard tests, and no room for error. Class is Passable.
Very condescending - often makes statements to students like "If you don't understand what I'm saying, you shouldn't be in an educational institution."
he is a good teacher as long as he likes you. if you do the work in class and a bit at home you should have no problems passing.
He's ok... if he doesn't like you, you'll probably fail. He expects a lot out of his students.
great teacher, teaches it so anyone can understand it
