dk why he isn't retired already. he's the only math teacher that believes and uses active learning (no textbook, no class notes). i don't know how i passed to be honest.
he gives quizzes every class.. and gives you a 0 for that quizz if the equal sign is not straight to the equation... worst etacher ive ever had. He wants you to think and be prepared but his questions will make you think like albert einstein trying to fin the equation e=mc^2... If you get him im sorry but you are one of the most unluckiest person in the world.
depends on how good you are at math. if you need a teacher to walk you through the you should not take him
Don't take him.
I have spoken to people who had him the year before me and it seems his method of teaching has changed since then. Especially if you are bad at math, TAKE HIM! He actually makes you work and think in class - much better than mindlessly taking notes! He takes it nice and slow and he makes sure you understand. He is open to seeing people after class or in his office to go over things. Really cool guy. The people who say he's a bad teacher are the weird ones.
good teacher take him
good teacher. my son likes him
good teacher.take him. you won't regret
A good teacher. if you are strong in math take him. 90+ easily. be prepared for quizzes every class and extremely mean gradings.
Hayek is the best cal teacher i ever had. He makes things so clear. All other who written he is bad is bullshit. He let you understand everything, make surs you really understand before he continues. For those who have difficulties in cal. DO TAKE HIM.
He's a useless teacher do not expect to learn anything from his class. His exams are quite easy but he is a harsh marker. He extends webworks if you ask him. If your really good at math I would recommend him because its easy to get good grades from him as long as you do it his way.
Very, and I mean very weird teacher. He doesn't really give notes and the book that we were working in was very complicated and unclear. We were doing things without knowing why we were doing it. His marking is very strict and difficult. If you're good at "figuring things out" than you're okay but if not... You're in for a ride.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! He gave me a 50 on my first quiz when I got everything right because my "=" sign was " too high". Will not give you marks on a test if it's not done his way. Many kids failed Caluclus 1 because they did not answer the questions his way. GET AWAY FROM HIM. If you are automactically put in, SWITCH OUT. No knowledge of the course. Tells us to learn by ourselves using a stupid workbook. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! This guy doesn't use the Stewart book but an "exercise book." It doesn't have much explanations but asks you to figure everything out, that's also the style he uses in class. You'll be divided into groups to do some stupid questions and he merely explain concepts well. Quizs every class. In general he's good and tests exams are easy, if you're strong in math and good at algebra 90% final for sure. But if you wanna go further in cal avoid this guy. He won't teach you real stuff.
MEANS WELL but, an avoid at all cost teacher. Was preregistered for cal 1 with him. Should have dropped him. He puts you in pairs and makes you "figure things out". No notes. TERRIBLE workbook, not James Stewart textbook. Lots of webwork, extends deadlines a lot, but not useful. Everything you do in class is the basics and the tests are super hard. High failure rate. ONLY plus side was final was like the tests. If you are prepared to teach yourself and work hard, I still wouldn't recommend him.
DO NOT take him as you calculus teacher. He doesn't use James Stewart (even though all of faculty does). He gives us quizes every class. He never explained ANYTHING. He thinks that we are suppose to teach ourselves. He puts us in pairs to "figure stuff out." His marking is out of this world picky. He confuses himself and the class at the same time. Keep away at all cost (drop the class if necessary)!!!!
He's a really nice person! He's sometimes unclear when he teaches but ask him questions if you don't understand! He's really approachable and wants his students to succeed! Also his tests are easy but a bit long!
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR CAL. In class, he makes us get in groups and basically teach ourselves new theory from the book (which is not a helpful book btw). He is very confused while teaching and compares math to very irrelevant situations. He wants the problems to be done his way, otherwise you're "not thinking logically" and are probably gonna fail. He marks tests wrong if your equal sign is not in the middle of the equation (my friend lost 50%), and he has poor teaching skills. Avoid at all costs.
This is the only teacher who uses the guided inquiry book instead of the Steward book. The book is a waste of money and doesn't even include proper explanation of concepts or relevant exercises. He doesn't teach anything and he wants you do do exactly he does. I demanded most explanation and help and refuse to give me a clean answer. Don't even think about taking him, just change teacher.
The textbook that he choose was perfect, because it is clear, small and explains everything you need to know about Calculus 1. However, the teacher is sometimes very confused about what he teaches. He is good as a tutor. As a teacher I would recommend him if you are at least good in math.
Personally, when I read these reviews on him, I was kind of reluctant to have him as my Calculus 1 teacher (it was preregistered). However, after having finished my first semester, I must say that I really enjoyed his way of teaching. He doesn't give notes because he insists that math isn't about memorization. Instead, he puts us in groups and we tackle the topic with our team members. He gives a quiz at the beginning of each class and there are webworks to be done. I would take him again.
I feel really bad for you if you took this teacher. Switch now!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER for Calculus.
He does not explain any of the content.
He puts the students in groups to do the workbook questions and we have to "figure it out ourselves". When the whole class asks him questions, he does not answer them. He does not do any review of the content. His tests are unclear.
I had Al Hayek for cal 2 and I'd say hes an "Avoid at all costs" teacher. He never posted any grade except the final grade, he rambles on tangents, avoids teaching tricks to his subject because he dislikes memorization, comes up with problems he can't solve himself, and will probably put you to sleep. However he is a fantastic with 1 on 1s. His tests are hard but short but hes really picky on grading. There are better math teachers around.
do not take him unless you enjoy failing, his tests are graded wayyyyyyy too severly, even a little class quiz was graded on 50 and takes he off big marks for the dumbest things. He also gets very distracted by people talking and will stop his lecture every five minutes to get complete silence, his class is a wreck
His teaching method is very good. You can understand what he explains if you listen. Some important key concepts are explained in detail. However, you need to be critical because what he teaches is not always correct. Tests are fair and moderately easy.
Albert Hayek is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. He took my understanding of mathematics to a whole new level. He refuses to throw a formula at your face just like that. He actually teaches you the mechanics of the formula and how to apply them yourself. Although at times he may be lost or slow, he is a very caring teacher and he wants you to leave his course with a very clear understanding of mathematics. I highly recommend this teacher.
just to make things clear, im a math lover and i get the best grades in math. despite that, i almost failed cal 1 with Hayek. really weird and CONFUSING!!!!!!!.we spent the first 3 weaks talking about velocities. didnt learn much . i had to study from the book on my own the 2nd half of the semester. that was late but i still managed to pass. on top of that, hes a harsh marker. and he gives loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnng webworks. avoid him at all costs cuz this guy is gettin old he should retire.
Very bad teaching skills I would avoid. He gets corrected by his own students
Great teacher, his teaching method is very good, although he is lost sometime.
DO NOT take him
he is really old
He does not want to teach so he makes you do the work
It takes him forever to explain a simple concept
This person has issues he has problem talking
Had him for cal1 worst experience ever. We took the first month just to talk about velocity. He loses a lot of time but is always willing to meet up so he can explain. Extends the webworks very often
He takes off marks for very little mistakes.. He is extremely helpful outside of class and is willing to meet at anytime but he is very lost at times. His tests are pretty easy directly taken from the
I didn't like the way he teaches. He can take off marks for every little mistake. But his final was easy
He's a very nice teacher BUT if u need explanations he wnt give them to u hes gna tell u to use ur knowledge !!! It depends how gd yu are in math... Overall he cares abt his students and is nice...
Very nice teacher, he's there for his students ask him for help and he will help u as much as he can !!!
avoid taking him if your bad in math, he doesnt teach you cal, he teavhes you how to learn cal !!
Generally a great teacher, I recommend choosing him for Calculus 1.
Great explanations. Wants to help&cares about his students education. Dont waste time in his class bc he tends to go slow bc he wants everyone to understand.the best for math.
Nice teacher but I found that we didn't cover enough material or that we didn't have time to work with it before the final exam.He explains well.Exams are easy but he takes marks off for small things.
He's a wierd teacher. All he likes in life are Calculus and Simspons. You can come in late to his courses and he won't do anything. Exams are very easy. He extends deadlines 10million times. Often ver
First of all, he is VERY patient and understanding. He can seem intimidating at first, and sometimes he loses the students in his teaching, but eventually it all comes together and people do well.
He is really a good teacher: I was scared when I first saw him but then I understood how it works with him.He makes sure everyone understand and gives full explanations.
Every mathematical inequality officially ends with "< Al Hayek".
good teacher but you have to pay attention. make sure to keep up wtih the work, and the tests can be hard if you don'tget what you're doing (like if you don't show evry step in every problem then u won't do well)
Look, in class he seems tough. BUT if you go home, look at the notes and do the homework you'll be fine. His tests are fine and dandy and his marking scheme makes sure that you wont fail (if you're TRYING). Take him!
BEWARE!!!!!!!!! This teacher without a doubt is confusing. He confuses himself and his students. ---> HE IS A HARD MARKER <--- Every little detail in your equation has to be perfect. Half the class couldn't stand his teaching method and the way he marks. Suggestions for a great teacher: ELEN COOPER
Stay away. He knows nothing about math, you spend the entire class correcting his mistakes. worst teacher i've ever had.
HE IS THE BEST!!! He is a very nice man... TRUST ME... His exams are very very easy. U'll pass for sure, in his class. I, personnally, really like him.
He has no idea what he talks about! He jumps from one question to the other without explanation! He gets his notes and "explanation" from the book, word for word!No joke!Get out if you can!
He hasn't the slightest clue what he's doing. He once brought in a bunch of branches to try and explain exponential functions... In a Calculus class! Completely confuses himself and leaves questions half-done in class because he doesn't know the awnser.
He confuses students and himself. Can't understand what he teaches, write or say. Cryptic and strange behavior. Notes = alien language but exams are very easy in general. He tries to help... but don't get help from him. You will get even more confused.
this class was so much fun, he has no clue what hes doing so he doesnt expect u to know what ur doing. Hes so lost and funny. Most fun i had in cegep so far!!
He's confused and confuses his students as well. Textbook class.
If u want to get kicked out of class for sneezing, having a pen in ur mouth or raising ur hand this is ur teacher
Nice guy, but terrible teacher. He can't control the classroom it's always noisy, his lectures are boring. Easy tests. Easy to pass.
this teacher is incredible. u get a really high mark in his class if u PAY ATTENTION. he gives hmewk in the book but never checks it and his tests are VERY EASY
Explains thinsg clearly I used to hate math but now I understand what I'm doing so I find it a lot more fun and interesting. Grt teacher.
take him. classes r very boring & he doesn't know his stuff, makes big mistakes, but he's ok. i like his approach: in his class everybody is a student, him too.
he's good, always there to help if you don't understand. waht most ppl don't realize - go to him during office hours, he's actually a great help
eh's real nice and tries to help. he can sometimes be confusing but he is not too hard.
He tries to help, but he does NOT know his material. Take him if you plan to follow from the textbook, miss all his classes and ask no questions, you'll be fine
What kind of morron said that this teacher is easy; make no mistake, not only does he tell his student 'I'm confused', but his tests are extremely hard
You can actually tell he cares about students and genuinely wants them to succeed and that he works from the heart!!!
he's really patient and really wants everyone to understand and do well in his class
This teacher is too confusing. His class is easy but you won't learn much. If you do one chapter you're lucky. Don't ask questions, he doesn't know the answer.
nice guy but the man DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING. I learned Cal2 by myself. He gets all confused as soon as you ask him a remotely hard question.
Oh gawd, he is the Grim Pilgrim, so boring wen teaching study skills
nice teacher .never take advantage of him u'll feel really guitly..
the teacher is easy and very patient with the students
